Two cats sit on the window sill and watch as the bear attempts to raid bird seed from the feeder just out-side the window of this Brady’s Bend home. The bear stares at the cats for a few minutes before emptying the feeder. The bear is the youngest of the bear family there that include a mother and father bear that are fre-quently seen coming to the house for food.

In a collaborative effort between East Brady and Brady’s Bend on Saturday, April 28th , thirty-two local volunteers and eleven proba-tion workers participated in The Great American Cleanup of PA. The event was organized by the East Brady Area Development Corpora-tion (The Great American Cleanup of East Brady) and Brady’s Bend Township (Straighten up the Bend).
Despite a steady rain, volunteers gathered 177 large bags of trash along streets and parks in towns, along Route 68, Seybertown Road, Kittanning Hollow Road and the Fish & Boat Commission Boat Launch. In addition to litter pick-up sidewalks and streets in the busi-ness district of East Brady were swept. A special effort was made this year to clean-up the East Brady Riverfront Park that suffered much damage during the ice jam in January.
All cleanup supplies were provided by Penn DOT. Coffee and donuts were donated by the Old Bank Deli and bottled water was provided by Farmer’s National Bank.
State Police arrested a man just after midnight on Satur-day, April 28. A traffic stop was initiated on Clearfield Pike near Skyline Drive in Rayburn Township after observing several traffic violations. John Manuel
Navarro, Jr., 34, no address given, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Navarro submitted to a breath test and confirmed that he was under the influence of alcoholic bever-ages. Charges were filed through the office of District Magisterial Judge James Owen.
