GAME PLAY

Dropping a coin (or token) through the coin slot at the top of the game starts game play. The win dropsdown to the coin ledge and roils down along the ledge. The player pulls in the coin ledge by pressingthe COIN DROP SUTTON. If the player doas not drop the coin, it will rotI off the end of the shelf.

As the coin falls down among the pins on the ptayfiekl, it drops into a mouse hole or through a slot at thebottom of the game.

MOUSE HOLES:Dropping into a mouse hole when it is lit turns off the lamp and awards a spin of themystery wheel. The point award is indiited on the wheel. Turning off the lamps onall three mouse holes relights all the holes.

Dropping into a mouse hole when it is not lit awards three points and (left or rightholes, respectively), and spots a letter in ADDAMS or FAMILY. Lighting ADDAMSAwards 25 points. Lighting FAMILY awards 50 points.

BOTTOM SLOTS:Dropping into a slot without a lamp awards 1 point.

Dropping into a sbt with a lamp (THING-A-MAJIG) when it is not lit awards 2 points

Dropping into a sbt with a lamp when it is lit awards the value printed on the playfieldand turns off the lamp. Turning off all the lamps in THING-A-MA-JIG awards theJACKPOT (JACKPOT value is adjustable).

While the coin is dropping down the playfield. the ptayer may rotate the lamps abovethe bdtom slots by pressing the COIN DROP BUTTON.

LAMPS:The CPU stores the lamp states in banery backed-up memory, so that they arerestored when the game is powered OFF and ON.

After a long period of inactivii, the game will turn on several tamps in THING-A MA-JIG, when 4 of fewer tamps are lit.

WHEEL:The mystery wheel award is selected randomly before each spin of the wheel. Theoption swttches must be correctly set to reflect which wheel sticker is installed. (seeOption Switches on page 1-9 for details).

If the wheel is detected to be broken, or is disabled by option setting, the wheelaward is a faed amount based upon the average value of awards on the wheel.

TILT:Tilting of the game causes a warning sound and temporarity shuts off all the tamps.Game play is inhibited while the game is tilted. The game WIII remarn t&d as long asthe plumb bob tift is closed.

COIN AND TICKET METERSThe coin meter (located under the cashbox) counts coins (or tokens) through the coin clot (acceptedcoins onty). Service credits are not counted.

The ticket meter (located behind the marquee glass) counts tickets dispensed. The tickets are notcounted until the dispenser actually emts them.

SERVICE CREDITSThe game will play normally with service credtts, but will not dispense tickets when played with servicecredits.

TICKET DISPENSERThe ticket dispenser motor and tan-p are controlled by the CPU. The CPU detects ticket movement bywatching the notches between tickets with an opto switch.

The lamp on the dispenser provides three indications:

LAMP OFFThis is nom1 operation.

LAMP ONThis indicates a ‘ticket tow’ conditit. The micro switch on the ttcket hopper detectswhen the ticket stack is getting low, and the CPU turns on the lamp.

LAMP BLINKINGThis indicates either a “tickets empty’ or ‘tickets jammed’ condition.

While the ticket dispenser is empty or jammed, the game will still keep track of ticketsto be dispensed. This count is kept in battery backed-up memory. so that the gamemay be turned off while servicing the dii.

The TICKET TEST BUITON located on the dispenser serves severaffunctions:

Pressing TICKET TEST BUTTON dispenses one ticket.

PRESS and HOLD TICKET TEST BUTTON to dispense multiple tickets.

When clearing a ticket JAM, pressing TICKET TEST BUTTON will dispense remaining ticketswaiting to be dispensed.

PRESS and HOLD TICKET TEST BUTTON to abort a dispensing operation in progress.

TO CLEAR JAMMED OR TORN TICKETS:

1. Remove metal ticket guide by spreading the frame skfes slightly and twisting guide clockwise

2. Keeping guide parallel to bottom plastic guide, Ml and slide out

3. Clear tickets and reinsert guide. insert guide parallel to bottom plastic guide, above sensor andticket guide spring until right tab slides within frame sides. Continue sliding guide parallel. Whencut-outs on ticket guide align with sensor tabs engage with mounting slots in frame sides. Makesure that the front of the guide extends through the slot in front panel of dispenser.

TICKET DISPENSER ADJUSTMENTS:

Roller Tonrlon SpringThe roller tension spring deeps constant tension on tickets, which insures proper delivery andprevents tickets from being pulled trough when the dispenser is idle. To increase tension, loosen screw and move spring forward. Tension is adjusted correctly when tickets cannot bepulled from dispenser.

Ticket Guide SpringThe ticket guide spring insures that the notches in the tickets pass through the opto-beambreaker sensor. To increase tension, bosen screw and move outer spring up. This changesthe tension on the inner spring. Tickets should be snug between spring and side plate but notdeformed by excess tension. The spring is adjusted for 1 3/M’ wide tickets.

Ticket StopThe ticket stop adjustment allows positioning of tickets while the machine is off. The ticketshould protrude through the slot approximately l/16’. The ticket dispenser P.C. Board ismounted with 2 screws in 2 slotted holes. Loosening the screws and moving the boardforward, will allow the tickets to stopfartherout beyond the edge of the slot.

Broken Switches Found:This error indicates that the CPU has not seen some switches after several games played Usethe built-in switch test to find which switches are detected as broken.

U6 Checksum Error:The game ROM checksum is invalid. If this occurs, replace the game ROM.

Sound Board Error:The CPU has detected a sound board error. This can be either a sound board ROM checksumerror, or a sound board interface error. The sound board will report errors through beeps atpower-up. Check the ribbon cable between the CPU and sound board for proper installation.

Mystery Wheel Broken:This error indicates that the CPU has found an ermr in the mystery spinner wheel. The mostlikely cause of error is a binding of the wheel. Make sure that the wheel has not shted, causingit to bind against the playfield cutout. Also make sure that the wheel sticker is securely affixedto the wheel and is not causing binding.

Also check the mystery wheel electrical connections, and fuse F103 if the wheel ismatfunctioning.

MAINTENANCE INFORMATION

LUBRICATION

Because of the functional design (an-actuated via solenoid plunger operation). the pivot points of thecoil operated assembly requires lubrication as a regular servicing procedure. Also lubricate the sfx pivotpoints of the retractor assembly. Magnalube, (Dally part number of El 204) is the recommendedlubricant for this mechanism.

CLEANING

Good action and extended playfield life are the results of regular playfield cleaning. During eachcollection stop, the play-field glass should be renxrved and thoroughly cleaned, and the playfield shouldbe wiped off with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Regular, more extensive, playfiekf cleaning is recommended. However, avoid excessive use of waterand caustic or abrasive cleaners because they tend to damage the playfield surface. Playfiild wax (orany carnauba based wax), or polish may be used sparingly, to prevent a buildup on the pfayffftd surface,Do not use cleaners containing petroleum distillates on any playfield plastks because they may diiethe plastic material or damage the artwork.

GameWiring and

SchematicsCONNFCTOR & COMPONEtjT IDENTIFICATIONEach plug or jack-except the Sound Board and Coin Door Interface Board-receives anumber that identifies the circuit board and position on that board that it connects to.J-designations refer to the male part of a connector. P-designations refer to the femalepart of a connector. For example, JlOl designates jack 1 of board 1 (a Power DriverBoard jack); P206 designates plug 6 of board 2 (a CPU Board plug). Identifying thespecific pin number of a connector involves a hyphen, which separates the pin numberfrom the plug or jack designation. For example, JIOI-3 refers to pin 3 of @ck 1 on board 1.

Other game components may also have similar numbers to clarity their locations or relatedcircuits. For example, F501 refers to a fuse located on the Sound Board.

Prefix numbers for the WPC circuit boards are listed below.

1 -Novelty Power Driver Board2-CPU Board

The Coin Door Interface Board and Sound Board do not have an identification nUmber.

Schematics for standard WPC backbox boards are found In the WPC SchematicsManual. Playfold, cabinet, and all other backbox board achomatics arm found in thissection.

When a switch clooss, the row side of tie circuit actiates. The ‘+’ input to the LM339 drcps below +5V causing its output togo low. Corresponding row and cdumn swlkhea must be low at the same time. for the switch to be considered closed bythe mkfoprccessor. When the switch opens, the .+. input k the LM33g is above +SV, its output is high and the row isinact&*.

The dedicated switches operate Similar to switd1ea in the matdx except that instead of a cdumn circuit there is a direct tie toground. Therefore. Ihe cdumn side Is constantly actlve (10~).

When a switch closes the row side (dedicated input) of the circuit activates. The ‘+’ input to the LM339 drops below +5Vcausing its output to go low. Since the row circuit (dedicated input) is tied directly to grwnd through the switch. the switch isconsidered closed by the microprocessor. When the switch opens. the ‘+’ input to the LM339 is above +5V, its ouQ~~t Is highand the TOW is inactive.
