Since December of 2014, our Advent Marian Exhibit has grown with various statues and works of art of Our Blessed Mother, in all of her representations, from the private collections of Fr. Thomas and many Santiago parishioners, but there is always room for more! This year we have moved out of the Santiago Room and into a larger venue in the Lecture Hall. If you would like to share your own personal images or statues of Mother Mary, we would be thrilled to add them to our display. To make arrangements, contact Lyanamar Medina at [email protected] or at Ext. 239.

Second Sunday of Advent December 4, 2016

JMJ 4 December, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome home greetings after being away for a Pilgrimage of Mercy in Italy. I meant it that I lighted a candle for our Parish Family whenever possible.

You probably know the saying: “Many hands make the load light.” This is true for the past two Parish events where the cooperation and working together of our parishioners made it possible and successful. I am referring to the Noel Night last December 2nd and the Welcome Rites and Activities for our Newly Registered Parishioners. We have, if you remembered, also began reciting together our New Parish Mission Statement. It is my hope and wish that as we pronounce it with our lips we instill it in our hearts and practice it in our lives.

We are halfway through the Season of Advent and as we move closer into Christmas it will only get busier and more hectic. May we all remember to heed what St. John the Baptist proclaimed, which is to prepare the way of the Lord Coming to us – our Messiah, our Emmanuel . . . the God who is with us.

One good means is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which our Parish will have during our Advent Penance Service on December 19th. However, there is no need to wait for that day because we have regular days and times for this Sacrament. It is a Sacrament of Hope and Healing. I read once: “Where there is no faith in the future there is no

power in the present.”

God’s mercy and forgiveness allows us to experience the grace and gift of hope; empowering us to persevere and believe in the immense love and care of God our Loving Father. This is what Advent is about – making a choice to allow the light to conquer – dispel the darkness. Life to triumph over death.

In parting, may I repeat what St. Paul wrote to the Romans: “Whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that by the encouragement of the Scripture we might have hope.” Happy Advent.

God bless and take care.

Love and prayers,

Fr.

Adviento Feliz. Que Dios los bendiga y cuídense. Amor y oraciones,

Padre Thomas Paul K. Naval

Bible Study Wednesday, December 7th 9am or 7pm

“Women of Israel’s Early Tribes” is this week’s title chapter in the book, Women of the Old Testament. From the stories of Rahab, whose faith outweighs her reputation, and also from Deborah and Jael who are associated with military battles in the book of Joshua comes

mystery and intrigue. Heroines who are “blessed among women” have importance in the story of Israel and our faith story too. For further information, please call

Nancy at 949-766-8126 or Barb at 949-768-1170.

2016-17 Religious Education Blankets! Blankets! Blankets! Our local homeless shelter, The Catholic Worker Isaiah House, has an immediate need, and YOU can help in this Work of Mercy! “Cold nights are especially hard on our homeless friends,” they said, and wondered if our parish could donate some twin-size warm blankets. Blankets could be brand new (a real treat for someone who never gets gifts)—or used blankets, clean and in good shape. Please bring them into our Religious Education Department now thru Christmas, and we will make sure they get delivered. As a donating family, pray for the person who will receive your gift. They will thank you in their hearts. May God bless your generosity, Gloria Fetta. Monday RE will resume on December 5th at 4pm or

6:30pm. Remember FC2 folks, one parent must attend the Parent Meeting in “A” after signing you child into class.

Wednesday RE will resume December 7th at 7pm. One parent please attend the Parent Meeting during that time, if your son/daughter is in SP1 and making First Confession soon. Location of Parent Meeting to be announced.

Blood Drive December 20th 1:30pm to 7:30pm (Parish Hall)

Advent Retreat at Serra with Immaculée Ilibagiza

December 9th and 10th Would you like a little spiritual “pick me up" this Ad-vent? St. Junipero Serra will be hosting a very special re-treat this Advent Season. Our guest speaker will be world renowned Immaculee Ilibagiza, the Rwandan genocide survivor who will speak on forgiveness & Hope. This re-treat will be held in the Student Activity Center beginning the evening of Dec. 9th at 5 pm and will then continue the morning of Dec.10th with mass at 8 am and ongoing tes-timony from Immaculíe concluding at 12:30 pm. Ilibagiza’s entire family, except for one brother, was killed during the genocide in the 1990s when members of the Hutu militia slaughtered about one million Tutsis - Ilibagiza’s tribe. libagiza survived for 91 days with seven other women in a 4-by-3- foot bathroom in the home of a local pastor. She chronicled the experience in her first book “Left to Tell,” which sold more than a million copies. She tells a very compelling story of love for our Blessed Mother. We hope you will join us for this amazing experience. Please sign up under "Retreats"at the website: https://immaculee.biz/.

ELLA?
