We invite you to be purposeful as you choose a space to set apart for worship. Please silence your phone at this time and do not multitask. You may download/print the bulletin on our website and keep it handy. If it’s safe to do so, light a candle, call it the Christ candle to signify the presence of the living Christ, where you are on this day.

Call to Worship

Hymn #138Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

WE CONFESS

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession Almighty God, Source of all that is, Giver of every good gift: You create all people in your image and call us to love one another as you love us. We confess that we have failed to honor you in the great diversity of the human family. We have desired to live in freedom, while building walls between ourselves and others. We have longed to be known and accepted for who we are, while making judgments of others based on the color of skin, or the shape of features, or the varieties of human experience. We have tried to love our neighbors individually while yet benefiting from

systems that hold those same neighbors in oppression. Forgive us, Holy God. Give us eyes to see you as you are revealed in all people. Strengthen us for the work of reconciliation rooted in love. Restore us in your image, to be beloved community, united in our diversity, even as you are one with Christ and the Spirit, Holy and undivided Trinity, now and for ever. Amen.

Declaration of PardonLeader: Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Congregational Response (together)Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen.

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed (together)I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

AnthemSteal Away Traditional Spiritual, arr. Brian Tate

Steal away to JesusSteal away, steal away home.I ain’t got long to stay here.

My Lord, He calls me, He calls me by the thunder,The trumpet sounds within my soul; I ain’t got long to stay here.

Green trees are bending, Poor sinner stands a trembling, The trumpet sounds within my soul;I ain’t got long to stay here.

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

WE PROCLAIM

The LessonAmos 5:18-24

Alas for you who desire the day of the Lord! Why do you want the day of the Lord?It is darkness, not light; as if someone fled from a lion, and was met by a bear;or went into the house and rested a hand against the wall, and was bitten by a snake. Is not the day of the Lord darkness, not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?

I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them;and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon.Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!
