Labels that list zinc oxide, avobenzone or titanium dioxide instead of wishy-washy ‘natural sunscreens’, sandalwood and random plant extracts, will offer better value for money — and better skin protection. “Sunscreen not only shields your skin from the sun, but also from damage from cosmetics,” Bhagat adds. “Don’t forget to apply it on your neck too.”

Newlyweds’ guide to doing up homeHis was a clumsy bachelor

pad and hers a girly denbefore the two got

married and moved into theirromantic nest.

Looking simply at the barewalls and empty spaces of ahouse can be quite intimidatingfor a newlywed who has beforethem the trying task of creatinga home, and then sharing it witheach other.

Even if nothing like asprawling Beverly Hills condo, you would still want yours to behomey and aesthetic with areflection of your personality. But most couples undermine thebeauty of the experience of doingup the house together, and in theprocess discovering a lesser-known side of one another.Contrary to popular perception, home decor doesn't necessarilyhave to cost an arm and a leg, even for a honeymoon-returncouple who wish to create forthemselves a haven of romance.By giving fl ight to yourimagination and a dint ofcreativity, you can do wonderswith your small space despitethe budget.

But remember patiencewith each other is paramountin this phase as you are boundto have one too manydisagreements, and might endup discarding potential home

colour cushions in heart shapeand keeping the contours of thecouches soft to give a sensuous, romantic feel to the living area. For a sense of dimension, introduce a conversation piecechair, suggests SumesshMenon, in a colour that standsout from the rest of the furniture.

decor pieces from the old attic. We try to make your t imesett ing up the house lessharrowing by getting interiordesign duo Sumessh Menonand Vivek Popli of TrikayaInteriors along with ShivikaBhasin of German kitchen andhome furnishing brands Hacker,Hulsta and Rolf Benz, to sharetheir impressions.

Living room:It wouldn't be

inappropriate to say that theliving area is the heart and soulof the house. You host yourguests in that space, you oftensit down to breakfast there orsimply lie around reading on aweekend. And so, the choice offurniture among other items ofdecor such as paintings, lamps, and vases, becomes vital indeciding the personality of thehouse. Go for contemporarystraight l ine furniture as i tmakes the room look serenepost wedding celebrations.Wicker furniture is anothergreat idea and is quite popularin the West too for their chicdesigns and affordability. Youcan get them designed andcoloured to your liking and tossbright cushions on them.Espresso brown, wine red andwhite are the classic shades inwicker. Shivika insists onsprucing it up with contrasting

Dining area:The world is going

minimalistic in a big way overhome decor. In keeping with thetrend, and not to mention theoccupancy of the house, acouple should go for a diningtable comprising two chairs anda bench. "This is a very creative

way to break the monotony, andmake optimal utilisation ofspace," feels Sumessh. To giveyour space a rustic look, you caneven do up the wall facing thedining table with brick tiles, andhang a few lanterns or a beautifulcoloured glass lamp. A creativewall notwithstanding, lightinggone wrong can mar the effectof a tastefully done up interior.Aside from pedestrian lamps, thedining area should also have theoption of dimmers, moodlighting or indirect covelighting. Spread a prettycutwork tablecloth and tablerunner for an elegant look. Toenhance it, you can place aglass bowl of rose petals andcandles in the center of thedining table. "Keeping freshfruits in a crystal bowl isanother way out," Shivika adds.

Lobby:You can lay out your

coffee table in the lobby areawhich is otherwise used onlyas an access path to adjoiningrooms. For a chic look, pick alow coffee table with lowstools. It makes sense to stacksome books, a scrabble, somestationary and a coffee mug onthe table to make this part ofthe house look in-use. Thecoffee table, however, need notmatch with the other furniturebits in the house. More creativeones can get logs of wood

converted into coffee table andstools with help from acarpenter. If you have moreroom, why not spread out a rugand throw in some blingy, over-the-top cushions. Potterylovers can scatter terracottavases that come in interestingshapes, or as Sumessh wouldprefer, different sizes ofaquamarine pottery clusteredtogether in a corner to lendyour home a soothingMediterranean feel.

Bedroom:Our experts advice, "Let

the woman have her choice ofcolours splashed on the wall."Post wedding women inparticular are very possessiveabout their bedrooms andwould rather do it up their way.So, she can have her pinks andfuchsias on the walls, andmaybe you can convince her toleave a wall vacant for a nicewallpaper. Create a collage ofwedding and honeymoonphotographs and hang it on anempty wall in the bedroom orthe anti-lobby leading to thebedroom. Television is a mustin this room, and never theliving room like many do. Makesure the bed is placed against thedead wall, and no where close to awindow. But ensure you have amulti-purpose bed with pull-outbreakfast consoles, mobileancillary tables for morning tea.

5 signs of hair damage Recipe: Broccolimushroom pasta,

choco muffins

20 best habits for healthy skin

Oddball Indian wedding rituals

10 ways to deal with knee pain

Be it a party, date or an office interview, you want tolook perfect and that is incomplete without perfectlydone hair. Often, we go to great lengths to achieve

this and subject our hair to all kinds of tools and products! Inthe bargain, your hair gets damaged. The earlier you spotsigns of hair damage, the faster you can help salvage them.We help you decode the signs... When hair gets crunchy - Totest this, take a strand of hair between your palms, rub itbetween your fingers and listen: if you hear or feel it crunching, you may want to consider adding some extra nourishment toyour hair. When it stretches like chewing gum — No matterhow healthy your hair is, when it's wet, even the strongest ofhair tends to stretch. But if your hair feels super gummy, it is one of the suresigns of hair damage of the worst kind. It is advisable todiscontinue whatever shampoo or product you are applyingto your hair immediately. When it tangles constantly — Wavyhair tends to tangle more at the ends. This means that youshould lay of f hea t and s ty l ing products and pay moreattention to your daily hair care routine.

When it 's too porous — When hair gets damaged, itsporosity increases. Increased porosity also leads to your hairabsorbing more dye/colour than it should (which might giveyou a shade darker than usual). Also, after it is dyed, yourhair will lose colour faster than it should. When it breakseasily — This one's a no-brainer. If you wake up every morningand see your pillow covered with broken hair, it means yourhair is too brittle and has to be rescued; else you won't beable to grow them too long.

Sometimes cooking shouldbe done for the sheer joyof it, simply to take your

mind off things. It's notimperative to always invitefriends over for a meal and bethe obliging host, and later tireyourself with all the cleaning upin the wake of the party. Turnthe cooking-and-serving-guests idea on its head and goall out with a cook and eatsession with a few close friendsin the comfort of your apartment, not to mention, friends withwhom you share your love offood. There is somethingintimate about cooking together, not only does it make way forcandid conversations, but alsorejuvenates you by breaking themonotony. In such get-togethers, it is very critical youplan the menu beforehand andeven run through the list ofingredients required so thatthere is no ambiguity overingredients that are alreadyavailable with you, and the onesthat need to be bought. Butdon't get carried away settingan elaborate meal plan as you'll

remain occupied doing the prepup instead of enjoying somelight moments with you pals. Itis not to say that you don't tryout something new, only avoidmaking it too tedious for thegang of you. For an occasionlike that, an easy three coursemeal should be perfect. Sincethe friend I cooked in with is avegetarian, I am proposing alavish, green spread comprisinga fresh salad, a pasta dish forthe mains, and choco muffinsfor dessert. The recipes can be puttogether in a matter of fewhours, including baking abouttwo batches of muffins. Tocheck on the cupcakes everynow and then and watch themfluff up little by little was thehighpoint of my time cookingtogether. Here's presenting therecipes of the three courses wemanaged to line up. It isadvisable to begin with thebaking, so that you can haveyour muffins out of the ovenand onto a cooling rack, andthen proceed with the saladfollowed by the main course.

If you thought wedding ceremonies can't get more bizarre thanthe groom breaking a wine glass by stepping on it at a Jewishwedding, or the Finnish bride going from door to door with a

pillowcase to collect her wedding gifts accompanied by an old manwith an umbrella, think again. Not only are Baltic or Greek weddingtraditions peculiar, some of our very own rituals surrounding thewedding can be as off-the-wall. True, a wedding brings happy tidingsto the family, but it is after all the eclectic rituals associated with itthat make for real memories. The most common perception of a Hinduwedding is the lighting up of the Vedic fire around which the brideand groom walk seven times while the priest chants mantras.Assumingly for the sake of brevity, almost all television series orcinema dealing with a Hindu wedding conjures up an image similarto this. Then what about the many awkward and flamboyant ritualsthat precede or succeed it, rituals that are unique to every culture, rituals that are perhaps relevant no more but lovingly adhered to.

With the wedding season upon us, let's vet some truly obscureIndian wedding traditions that evoke emotions ranging from laughter, grimace, scorn, tears, to sheer amusement.

Bengali weddings: That the mother of the bride is not supposedto see the wedding is common knowledge. But did you know that onthe day of the wedding, married women from the bride's family rise atthe break of dawn and arrange a plate of aarti complete with sweets, twigs and incense, and go over to invite the Ganges to the weddingof their daughter. The holy river is believed to bless the girl in herfuture life. Bihari weddings: This could be a rather curious post-wedding ritual performed by any groom's-side-of-the-family onbringing the bride home. Here an eager, expectant bride suddenlyfinds herself grappling with a huge earthen pot set on her head byher mother-in-law. Without losing time, few more pots are added tothe pile while she is expected to bow down and touch the elders'feet. As the dramatic scene is played out, all and sundry gather tosee how many pots the new bride actually balances, which isostensibly an indicator of her skills at striking a balance in the family.

Tribal wedding in UP: Sarsaul, a small town in Kanpur districthas given a new dimension to wedding hospitality. In keeping withthe tradition, the baaratis here are not greeted with flowers and rosewater spray, instead tomatoes and potatoes are hurled at themfollowed by a round of choicest abuses. Your sides might hurtimaging such a welcome, but the tradition takes root in the beliefthat a relationship that doesn't begin on a not-so-happy note always

culminates in love. Rabha weddings in Assam: The weddings of theRabha tribes of Assam is an aesthetic affair. Performed as perGandharva marriage tradition, the ceremony involves a simpleexchange of garlands - no pheras around the fire, and a lavish feastto round it up with. An extremely patriarchal ritual, the newly wed ontheir first day together at the boy's family home is expected to givea hand in cooking the afternoon meal and serve only to the male, elderly members of the family. For the rest, food is served insubsequent batches by the helpers. Malayalee weddings: How muchthe rest of the world frets about keeping the auspicious time for thewedding, tell this to the Nairs of Kerala and you'll manage a wrysmile out of them. For them, the auspicious time is when they set outfrom their homes to marry in a temple or the ancestral home of thegirl, and not the actual muhurat of the wedding. Like all Malayaleeweddings, this too happens at daytime. A serene white weddingwith a generous flash of gold jewellery, the bride and groom walkaround the mandapam thrice - not seven times. Kumaoni weddings:The use of flags in the marriage ceremony sets Himachali weddingsapart. Traditionally, a white flag called 'Nishan' leads the marriageprocession representing the bridegroom, followed by drummers, pipers and a white palanquin carrying the groom. The last man ofthe procession carries another flag, of red colour, representing thebride. When the marriage party returns from the girl's home aftercompleting all ceremonies, the red flag takes the lead followed by ared palanquin of the bride, succeeded by the white palanquin of thegroom, and the white flag at the tail end of the procession. Posture and you To get the most from your knees keep a goodposture especially while at work. Attention is to be paid to thechair you are sitting on. If the chair is too low the knees are inflexion constantly, not good. If the chair is too high you arestruggling for foot support. "Get a chair ideal for your height whereyour knees are bent at a comfortable angle, allowing you to sitdown and get up easily. Sitting cross-legged and using low furniturecan usher in knee problems over the years", points Dr DilipNadkarni, Orthopedic surgeon specialized in Arthroscopic or Key-hole surgery for the Knee Joint. Excessive sodium to be avoidedas it contributes to water retention and swelling, which putspressure on your knees and causes pain.

The nightshade family of vegetables should be had inmoderation; particularly if your knee pain is caused by arthritis.Nightshade vegetables include green peppers, cayenne, eggplant, paprika, tomatoes, and potatoes, all of which contain sotanine, atoxin to which arthritis sufferers may have a particular sensitivity.

added stability to the dynamics ofthe vehicle's SKYACTIV-Bodyand SKYACTIV-Chassis. TheSKYACTIV-Body structureutilizes more ultra-high tensile steelresulting in fewer materials used(and a lighter weight) whileincreasing torsional rigidity byalmost 30 percent. TheSKYACTIV-Chassis has a finelytuned front strut and rear multi-link suspension system, whichdeliver agile driving performancein the low- to mid-speed rangesand precise handling in high-speed driving. Engineering effortsalso improved NVH performanceto target class-leading quietnessas well as optimizing the under-floor design to further improveaerodynamic airflow to a class-leading 0.26 coefficient of drag(Cd), which also contributes toincreased fuel economy.Additional environmentally-conscious, fuel-efficient systemsin the Mazda6 include theproduction debut of "i-ELOOP,"the Mazda-engineered, world's-first capacitor-based regenerativebraking system. In real-worlddriving conditions, which featurefrequent acceleration and braking,i-ELOOP will improve fuel

AUDI Q7 TDI : LOVING THE LONG-DISTANCE THINGAfter a long-term test drive of the Audi Q7 TDI and the morethan 15,000 kilometres logged over summer, fall and winter,The Car Guide has concluded that this car is unquestionablyreliable. During this trial period, the Q7 TDI distinguisheditself brilliantly with remarkable features that make it theideal vehicle for extended road trips.Although it’s an enormous SUV, the Q7 has simple lines thatseem to make it look smaller. We can thank CanadianDanny Garant, who works at the Audi’s design office inIngolstadt, for its elegant shape. As always at Audi, quality

of assembly is second to none. A close inspection of the bodyreveals that the modifications made to several of thisvehicle’s components are truly impressive. For example, thespace between the hood and the fenders has been reduced tothe bare minimum, which helps the German manufacturerboast the most exacting assembly standards of anyautomaker.DID SOMEBODY SAY FUN?The Q7’s size means that it’s roomier than both the BMW X5and the Mercedes-Benz ML, which are, incidentally, both

available with a diesel engine. While the Q7 has three rowsof seats, we only used the third row on rare occasions andonly for shor t trips. The Q7 is at its best when jammedpacked with bags and other cargo in a five-passengerconfiguration. Life inside the Q7 is serene and the sound-proofing is so good that it’s almost impossible to hear theunique vocal signature of a diesel engine in normal drivingconditions. Equipment like the satellite GPS, the 270-watt14-speaker Bose audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, xenon headlights, four-zone heating and air conditioning, heated and ventilated front seats, rear back-up camera, andkeyless entry and star t all help make life on board the Q7more pleasant – especially over long distances.

2014 Audi R8 First Impressions

RIMINI/ ITALY : Founded in 268BC, this coastal town was oncean important Roman stronghold, the gateway between Italic andGallic lands. Home to filmmakerFellini, Rimini is now a sun-drenched paradise on the ItalianRiviera. Well… that may be soduring the holiday season, butat the moment it's damp anddrizzling with pea-soup fog thatwould make a Londoner feel rightat home. Not exactly the idealconditions for driving a 550-hpsupercar. To its credit, the 2014Audi R8 I'm piloting scarcelyputs a tire wrong on the slipperycobbled tarmac. A couple ofheart-stopping seconds of

hydroplaning are quickly takenunder control by the quattro all-wheel-drive system, althoughthe rear end's occasionalsquirming adds unneeded dramaon the hairpin roads. Ourdestination is the mountainousprincipality of San Marino, andthank heavens for the navigationsystem whose screen resemblesa plate of spaghetti thrown at awall. The windshield wipers flailfuriously on the frontwindscreen, but visibility is closeto nil. Too bad, because theancient, crenellated walls barelyvisible through the thick fogwould have made a terrific photobackdrop. It's hard to form an

accurate opinion under suchconditions, particularly whenwe're talking about a car thatperforms so brilliantly at highspeeds. Since its introduction in2007, the Audi R8 has won overlegions of fans for its ability tofool even the most talentlessamong us into thinking we'redriving superstars. Civilized itmay be, the R8 is still a no-compromise sports car that madeeven the iconic Porsche 911 situp and take notice. And now it'sback; stronger, stiffer and fasterthan ever. But is it better?Extensive use of carbon fibre andaluminum result in a lighter carThe 2014 Audi R8 is certainly

lighter. Thanks to an extensiveuse of carbon fibre on inlays, bumpers, even the mirrorhousings, and the aluminum"space frame" body, the R8 shedsbetween 75 and 105 kg (between166 and 232 lbs).

There are a few subtlechanges to the 2014 Audi R8'sexterior, some slight bumpermodifications and standard roundexhaust pipes throughout themodel range. Those signaturerunning lights -- the twinklyeyelashes that have sincebecome ubiquitous across theautomotive spectrum -- are gone, replaced with a full LED swath.Behind, the rump lights up withsome slick taillights that illuminatesequentially outward.

That unique styling, whichelevates it above other sportscars and into the realm ofsupercar, remains unaltered.

Same engines… but morepower The 4.2L V8 returns in the2014 Audi R8, with an output of430 hp, while the 5.2L V10 alsoremains at 525. Now offered incoupe-form only, is the R8 V10Plus that puts out 550 hp and 398lb-ft instead of 391. The powerdifferences come courtesy ofsome creative enginemanagement software.

Enthusiasts will be happy tohear that the manual gearbox, with its snickety-snick metalgated shifter returns, unchanged.

Most of us who buy cars want to go on long drives inthem, though we might not alwaays get the chanceto do so. Here are a few tips to help you when you

go road trippin'.Just CruisingWhile driving long distances, it is very important to not

go hammer and tong. Driving fast and hard is quite taxing onone's mind and can bring the onset of fatigue early. Of course, that doesn't mean one should drive slow. Just maintain a goodspeed and try not to fluctuate it too much. A secondarybenefit from this is better fuel efficiency from your car, which means your driving range increases and you makefewer fuel stops, effectively making your journey faster.

Lane ManLane discipline is a very important aspect of highway

driving and hence becomes critical when one is drivinglong distances. Switching back and fourth between lanescan be a pretty tiring exercise and this kind of strain issomething you want to avoid for the long haul. Followinglane discipline keeps you and other vehicles around yousmooth, which also helps relax you when you are behindthe wheel. Once your actions are predictable, it increasesthe safety margins on the road as well.

Mind ReaderThis is a skill one needs to develop while munching

the miles on highways. Reading traffic is something thatwi l l come wi th exper ience , bu t i t needs an ac t iveinvolvement by the driver. Once you are able to predicthow the t raf f ic around wi l l f low and what are theintentions of the vehicles near you, it will be rather easyto figure out the path of least resistance through it all. This will greatly reduce stress and keep your fatigue incheck, making it easy to drive longer distances.

Relaxed body, relaxed mindOn another note, while it is important to stay relaxed while

driving long distances, staying alert is equally important. Sodon't be too finicky behind the wheel. Maintain a relaxedposture but keep your eyes on the road and hands upon thewheel.

This createsa relationship of trust,” saysMukherjee.

In the concluding part of ourthree-part series, here aresome classic techniques for

your eyesThe clumsy girl’s guide to

the cat eyeYou’ll need:A slim eye pencil (Avon

Glimmersticks, LakmeEyeConic, MaybellineColossal), either a felt-tippedliquid liner (Clarins Instanteyeliner, Lancome Artliner) or aneyeliner pen (Oriflame BeautyEyeliner Stylo, ColorbarUltimate Eyeliner) and cellotape(yes, really).

How to get it:EyeSit at a well-lit table

with a mirror in front. You don’twant your own face to block thelight. Tear off two one-inchstrips of the tape and take awaysome of their glue by stickingthem on the back of your hand.

Stick each strip at an angleto the sides of your eye. Theedge of the tape is going to actas your guide to the eyelinerflick. Take a step back from themirror to see if the anglesmatch. Re-adjust them tillyou’re happy. Take the slim eyepencil and use your fingertipsto gently stretch one eyelidoutward and start making aseries of little dots close to thelash line, till you reach the tape. Then, using the same liner, jointhe dots to get a thick but evenline. For the flick, use liquid linerand extend your dot-to-dotwork outwards, following thetape. Go as long or as bold asyou dare; just make sure theend is pointy. Do the same withthe other eye and step back tosee if both flicks are the same

length and thickness. Give theliquid liner a minute to dry, andthen slowly take the tape off.

The first-timer’s guide tokiller eyelashes

You’ll need: mascaraAmirror, lengthening mascara(look for wands with well-spaced bristles, like Loreal’sClean Definition Telescopic,Max Factor Lash ExtensionEffect, Make Up For EverLengthening or RevlonCustomEyes), volumisingmascara (thick bristly wands likeColossal Volum, Nyx Dolleye,Clinique High Impact orLancome Hypnose Drama willdo the trick) and tissue.

How to get it:Place your mirror on the

table at an angle that lets youlook down at it and see yourupper lashes directly. Don’t layit flat, the top end needs to be atleast two inches higher — slip alipstick tube underneath. Nowget your lengthening wandready and take a deep breath. The angle of your mirror shouldwarn you that the bristles aregetting close, so you don’t pokeyour eyes. Work slowly. Startat the roots of the lashes, jiggleto deposit colour there andsweep cleanly upward. Do toplashes only. One coat is enough, but if you want a second layer, apply it before the first onedries. First-timers invariably feelan urge to blink right at thispoint. Put your tissue betweenthe top and bottom lash whenyou do. It will catch any excessproduct. Get the other mascaraout and repeat. One layer isusually enough. Just ensureyou’ve got every lash.

8 REASONS YOUSHOULD DRINK TEA

However, because the studies are inconclusive, the NationalCancer Institute does not recommend for or against the use oftea to reduce the risk of any type of cancer. Scientists nowagree the 'eight glasses of water a day' rule is misleading anddrinks such as tea and coffee can hydrate the body just alongwith water. It's still a good idea to aim for moderate caffeineintake, with no more than one to two cups at a time. Accordingto a study conducted in the Netherlands and published in theArchives of Internal Medicine, drinking tea was associatedwith a more than 50 per cent reduction in severe atherosclerosis(hardening and narrowing of the arteries) in women who drank1 to 2 cups a day. Another study, published in the journalStroke, found that long-term consumption of black, green, oolong or white tea can cut the risk of strokes by as much as 60percent. Researchers say the antioxidants, found abundantlyin tea, may play a critical role in preventing heart diseases.Tea might also help in the prevention and treatment ofneurological diseases, especially degenerative diseases likeAlzheimer's.Research shows the polyphenols in green tea may help preventneurotransmitters involved in brain function, like dopamineand epinephrine, from degrading. It may also inhibit senileplaques from depositing in the brain, which impairs cognition.Overall, one to two cups of green tea a day may boost yourlearning and memory.

GET YOUR JEANSTO FIT YOU RIGHTA pair of well-fitting

jeans is as elusive asthe perfect red lipstick.

Jeans that do not fit well are aneyesore. Everyone struggles tofind that perfect pair.

This task becomes doublyhard if you possess a pear-shaped body (god knowswhere Kim Kardashian getshers). Finding a jeans that fitsperfectly is next to impossiblefor women who are bot tomheavy. More often than notyou are going to f ind tha tthe jeans according to yourw a i s t s i z e w o n ' t m o v e a ninch above your thighs andthus you have to set t le fors o m e t h i n g t h a t b a g s o ny o u r w a i s t c r u s h i n g y o u rdreams to wear a jeans witha snug f i t . But help 's heresweet ies . A nip and a tuckwill solve your problem.

1. Turn your jeans insideout and wear them and fastenthe button.

2. See the bags on thewaistband of your jeans? Pinchthe waistband from both, theright and the left sides. You

should have an equal amountof fabric on both sides and donot pinch too hard.

Yopu don't want yourjeans to cut through yourwaist? You should only take somuch fabric that the waistbandis neither too tight nor loose butfits your waist snugly.

3. Secure each pinch of denimwith a safety pin so that yourmeasurement is not lost when youare taking off the jeans.

4. Now adjust the pins tomake a pleat on the back of thewaistband. You don't wanttucks in the front portion ofyour jeans. Make sure that you

have an equal amount of fabricon each side and the pleatsshould be equidistant from thecentre.

5. Use a sewing machineand stitch each pleat startingfrom the waistband andtapering off before the backpockets.
