  • A decade ago, SureFire reinvented the suppressor—setting a standard that is unmatched to this day. Now our new SOCOM Series models are setting the bar even higher. U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) recently held the most extensive and rigorous suppressor trials in history. The result: SureFire’s SOCOM556-RC and SOCOM762-RC suppressors were the clear winners, handily defeating all competitors. The advanced, patent-pending technology incorporated into these new designs provides significant advantages like minimized gas blowback as well as the virtual elimination of first-round flash thanks to improved gas-flow dynamics and our innovative new front plate design. These technological advancements are infused into the entire line of SOCOM Series suppressors.

From the start, SureFire suppressors have provided superior sound, flash, and muzzle blast reduction, all core components of our Total Signature Reduction (TSR) philosophy. Our patented Fast-Attach® system permits the mounting of our suppressors solidly to a SureFire flash hider or muzzle brake in seconds—more

securely than before—and lets you remove it just as quickly. They produce minimal and consistent point-of-impact shift compared with an unsuppressed weapon, regardless of attach/detach cycles, and typically improve accuracy. Building on this battle-proven system, all SOCOM Series suppressors feature a greatly improved lock ring and latch, and improved suppressor indexing.

SureFire suppressors are built from U.S. mill-certified high-temp alloys that provide extreme resistance to gas and particle erosion. They typically outlast the barrels to which they are mounted. Weight-efficient materials, coupled with compact size, minimize impact on weapon maneuverability and handling. Additionally, SOCOM Series suppressors boast several innovative new features such as vented blast baffles, internal blast shields, and improved gas-flow dynamics—and they’re built in America to ensure their quality. The result of all this obsessive attention to detail: the world’s ultimate sound suppressors, designed, tested, and built to help you prevail—and get home safely.

BARRY DUECk DIRECTOR, SUREFIRE SUPPRESSOR DIVISION

Barry Dueck is a former Marine, a co-founding instructor of the SureFire Institute, and a national 3-gun champion. His prime directive—assigned to him by Dr. John Matthews, founder and president of SureFire—is simply to build the absolute best suppressors in the world. Barry and his team have accomplished just that, establishing the standard by which all other sound suppressors are measured. This is his proudest accomplishment: providing our nation’s military and law enforcement professionals with the ultimate suppressors that give them significant advantages in combat.

The Model 1909 sound suppressor was introduced by Hiram Maxim over 100 years ago. And until recently, suppressor technology remained relatively unchanged from that original design. These devices were best suited for close-range engagements of limited duration because they generally affected bullet trajectory and lost efficacy with extended firing strings, often loosening from the weapon or overheating destructively.

SureFire positively transformed the sound suppressor permanently in 2002 with the launch of our Suppressor Division. Groundbreaking design insights—in conjunction with advanced metallurgy—have enabled us to build suppressors that are

extremely effective, compact, lightweight, durable, and easily attached and detached. Our suppressors minimally affect accuracy, and in most cases there is an improvement.

This ballistic consistency combined with extreme durability makes fulltime suppressor use practical. Military personnel, law enforcement officers, and civilian shooters can all benefit from the advantages provided by fulltime use: continual reduction of sound, muzzle flash, and dust/foliage signatures that can reveal your position to adversaries; continual protection against temporary hearing loss that can shut out vital commands and significant sounds; and continual protection against potential permanent

hearing loss that can compromise personal safety, deployment and/or employment options, and overall quality of life.

SureFire’s revolutionary suppressor technology has continued to evolve. Our SOCOM Series of suppressors introduces advanced features such as improved gas-flow dynamics and a patent-pending front plate design that minimizes first-round flash signature to unprecedented levels. We spare no effort in our research and development efforts because we know that the the peacekeepers and warfighters who keep us safe—both at home and overseas—deserve nothing less.

In a combat context, signatures are anything that reveal a warfighter’s presence or position to the enemy. They include:

∞ Visible signatures such as muzzle flash, light from illumination tools, light reflection

∞ Audible signatures such as gunshots, talking, open radios

∞ Olfactory signatures such as fuels, solvents, fire, cooking, tobacco, scented products

Total Signature Reduction (TSR) is SureFire’s systematic effort to minimize the signatures of military personnel and LEOs operating in combat-like conditions, such as SWAT teams. It is driven by a simple yet powerful concept: In combat, soldiers are both safer and deadlier when their presence and location are unknown to the enemy. The less the signature, the more quickly, safely, and easily an operator can approach, strike unexpectedly, and change position.

The concept is specifically mentioned in the Joint Chiefs of Staff publication titled Joint Vision 2010 :

Advances in low-observable technologies and the ability to mask friendly forces will also continue over the next 15 years. Signature reduction will enhance the ability to engage adversaries anywhere in the battlespace and improve the survivability of forces who employ it.

SureFire is currently focused on reducing battlespace signature caused by firearms, acoustic communication, and artificial illumination of all types. Our signature-reducing product lines include:

Sound SuppressorsArguably the most important area of signature reduction concerns a warfighter’s rifle. When fired, it produces two strong signatures that can be easily detected at great distances—muzzle flash and muzzle

report. It also produces secondary signatures visible at significant distances—raised dust and debris and/or foliage movement from muzzle blast. Sound suppressors mitigate all of these— with an exception: most suppressors do not eliminate first-round flash. SureFire’s new SOCOM Series sound suppressors use improved gas-flow dynamics and a patent-pending front plate design that virtually eliminates first-round flash, a technological breakthrough in this area.

Sound suppressors also provide four additional benefits unrelated to signature detection by the enemy. The reduced sound levels protect the shooter and his team members against both temporary and permanent hearing loss; reduced muzzle flash preserves the shooter’s dark-adapted vision; attenuated muzzle gas blast minimizes raised dust, keeping the shooter’s view unobstructed; and attenuated recoil allows bullet impact observation and faster follow-up shots.

Infrared-Output WeaponLightsA second key area of signature reduction is stealth, which is another subject highlighted in Joint Vision 2010 :

Adaptations to this increasingly lethal battlespace will be warranted. These adaptations are likely to take the form of increased stealth, mobility, dispersion and pursuit of a higher tempo of operations among elements within the battlespace.

Stealth options range from simple measures such as dark clothing for night operations to technologically advanced measures such as clothing that masks thermal signature, or infrared technologies related to night vision devices. SureFire's involvement in the latter includes our V-Series WeaponLights, IR-output Helmet Lights, and other infrared illuminators.

1 FAST-ATTACH® SYSTEM—Now Improved The original Fast-Attach system has been improved in five distinct ways since we first introduced this groundbreaking

innovation. First, the locking ring surface is over one-third wider, providing a better grip during attachment and detachment. Second, the locking lever itself is even stronger. Third, the locking lever is now surrounded by a raised section of the locking ring, further reducing the remote possibility of accidentally releasing it. Fourth, individual parts of the Fast-Attach mechanism are now easily replaceable in the field by a soldier or armorer. And fifth—exclusively with the latest SOCOM Series suppressors—improved indexing of suppressor and adapter due to a tab in a low-carbon area, for easier removal after extended firing. See pages 14-15 for the latest SureFire 3-prong flash hiders and muzzle brakes, the second component of our exclusive Fast-Attach system.

SureFire’s new patent-pending 3-pronged 3P flash hiders feature ridged, assymetric tines that will withstand the rigors of combat. They are precision machined from U.S. mill-certified heat-treated stainless steel bar stock—with impressive 200,000 psi tensile strength—and finished with an Ionbond DLC coating. SureFire flash hiders typically eliminate 99% of muzzle flash, even when used on short barrels. They also serve as rock-solid attachment points for SOCOM Series Fast-Attach® suppressors, with labyrinth seals to prevent carbon buildup and an advanced design that provides multiple bearing surfaces to ensure superior suppressor alignment and to prevent the audible ringing of the tines inside the suppressor.

SureFire's latest muzzle brakes, built from heat-treated stainless steel, enhance the performance of your AR-15, M4, M14, or other weapon. They greatly reduce recoil and muzzle movement to keep you on target for faster follow-up shots. Our proprietary Impulse Diffusion design minimizes side blast and rear-directed concussion that can negatively affect the shooter and nearby team members. SureFire muzzle brakes also serve as rock-solid mounts for SOCOM Series Fast-Attach® suppressors. Most SureFire muzzle brakes include blind pilot holes at the 6 o'clock position for pin-and-weld capability on short-barrelled rifles, which requires a standard hand drill and appropriate bits. Machined from aerospace aluminum and Mil-spec hard anodized, it provides no sound attenuation, and is not legally classified as a suppressor. Simunition® and FX® are registered trademarks of General Dynamic Ordnance and Tactical Systems Canada, Inc.

BLANK FIRING ADAPTER (BFA) BLANK SAFETY DEVICE (BSD)Both models were developed for realistic weapons training and resemble SureFire sound suppressors in size and weight but are coated in a durable yellow finish. The BFA is strictly a training aid, while the BSD serves that same purpose but can also trap up to three negligently fired live rounds. A fired live round also ruptures the BSD's safety partition, resulting in a noticeably louder sound and a downward blast of muzzle gas through the safety ports, alerting the operator and those around him. The BFA is not designed to trap a live round.
