INTRODUCTIONThe rst European Palm Oil Conference, EPOC 2013, will be held in Paris, France on Tuesday 8 October 2013 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Paris. EPOC 2013 aims to address the many issues and concerns that are continuously surfacing in Europe regarding palm oil, particularly Malaysian palm oil. Paris has been chosen as the location of choice, since it is a hotbed for many of the ongoing debate on this commodity that is widely used throughout Europe and indeed the rest of the world. The gathering of experts, growers, stakeholders, processors, end users and consumers at EPOC 2013 promises to set the stage and map the trends that would likely emerge for the palm oil trade in the near term throughout Europe. Hence, your presence at EPOC 2013 is strongly advocated. This would be an excellent opportunity not only to learn the latest developments but also to interact on a personal basis with people from all walks of the industry supply chain, thereby helping your organization understand the underlying complexities and prepare for the challenges ahead.

BACKGROUND From a humble beginning, the Malaysian palm oil industry has grown to become a major contributor to the economic and social development of Malaysia. With about 5.08 M Ha of land under oil palm, the industry produced 18.79 M MT of palm oil valued at almost EURO 18 billion in 2012. Most of this palm oil and its products were exported to over 150 countries worldwide; making the country the largest exporter of palm oil in the world.

OBJECTIVESThe primary objective of EPOC 2013 is to update all stakeholders on the current Malaysian palm industry's sustainability and certication practices, correct palm nutritional and health attributes, European policies impacting food labelling and biodiesel mandates and consumer perceptions and NGO demands on the industry. The conference aims to bring forth under a single umbrella the facts behind these debates based on science backed ndings as well on-ground veried outputs. Such an open platform is anticipated to build the desired condence among all stakeholders and end users so that many of the negative publicity surrounding palm oil is addressed and appropriate solutions or progressive steps are identied.

EPOC 2013 will focus on these debates:

a) Sustainable Malaysian Palm Oil: Practices, Certication and Challenges.

b) Palm Oil : Health and Nutrition - Facts versus Perceived Insinuations.

c) European Policies and Legislations Impacting Palm Labelling and Biodiesel.

d) Stakeholders and Consumer Perceptions: The Way Forward.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS • European based oils & fats companies.

• Plantation companies, stakeholders, buyers and end users who are keen to learn more about Malaysian palm oil and how these debates aect their current and future business operations.

• European trade and manufacturing organizations/alliances involved in the palm oil trade and its use.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) is pleased to announce the European Palm Oil Conference (EPOC 2013) that will be held on the 8th

October, 2013 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, France.

Our conference theme this year, “EU and Malaysia – A Smart Partnership Towards Malaysian Sustainability of Palm Oil“ was carefully

selected to acknowledge the evolving market dynamics and challenges which have brought about signicant changes and rapid growth to

the industry as well as international businesses. This event caters for the entire Europe region.

EPOC 2013 will enable key players as well as leaders from the plantation, food, non-food and energy sectors to explore the issues and

deliberate on these opportunities and challenges. EPOC 2013 will also provide great opportunity for government ocials, members of various

chambers of commerce and trade organizations, corporate executives, manufacturers, researchers, end users, buyers, sellers and industry

analysts to create new networks and engage in informal discussions that can ultimately lead to real business development.

EPOC 2013 also oers a complimentary advertisement page for every participating company in its souvenir programme book. This provides

an excellent opportunity for organizations to reinforce and develop their proles among their peers in the oils and fats fraternity. As the

conference is expected to bring in participants from across the world to be updated and explained on the actual sustainability eorts already

practiced by the Malaysian palm oil industry, the conference will be a perfect opportunity to showcase your organisation’s latest sustainability

eorts and commitments. It creates an ideal platform for interaction with potential new customers and also reinforce your company’s

relationship with key buyers.

We have the pleasure to invite and welcome you to participate at our EPOC 2013. We look forward to your support and hope to see you at

EPOC 2013.
