Dear Biathlon Friends

It is often in the most tender years of a young athlete’s sporting career that an outstanding talent can be spotted making a breakthrough. The youth and junior years in biathlon are a period in which a young athlete doesn’t yet know the depth of his or her talent, doesn’t yet really know how to manage the abundance of energy, doesn’t yet really know how to treat sporting triumphs and disasters. In a sport with such delicate relationships between speed and endurance, and absolute focus and grit, finding a winning balance is an even more striking achie-vement.

The IBU set one of its many far-seeing milestones in the 2001/2002 season when it extended what was then known only as the IBU Junior World Champions-hips to the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, Italy. Since then, we have seen many outstanding biathletes burst onto the scene, the best of them winning multiple medals and moving straight into the highest echelons of the world’s biathlon. We have learnt that the best of the best of them often start changing biathlon history week by week as they add experience to their natural ability and work ethic.

There have been IBU Youth/Junior World Champi-onships where not one individual but a group of very talented biathletes emerged at the same time. It was in Obertilliach, Austria in 2012/2013 that Laura

Dahlmeier won medals in all the competitions sheentered, all gold medals except one, a feat she would later repeat at the IBU World Championships in Hochfilzen, Austria in the 2016/2017 season. It was also in Obertilliach that the top five in the sprint competition happened to be the mighty talented and now legendary JT Boe of Norway, Alexander Loginov and Maxim Tsvetkov of Russia, Vettle Sjaastad Christiansen of Norway and Quentin Fillon-Maillet of France: all of them went on to win competitions at the BMW IBU World Cup level and win medals on the grandest of biathlon’s stages. More recently, we witnessed the rapid ascent of Hanna Oeberg of Sweden, who won junior sprint and pursuit gold medals at the IBU Youth/Junior World Champions-hips in Cheile Gradistei, Romania in the 2015/2016 season. She went on to win gold in the individual competition at the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and at the IBU World Championships 2019, a feat no woman has ever accomplished before.

It is because of terrific stories like these that keep writing themselves that the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships are such interesting and valuable events. It is with this message in mind that I welcome you to the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, where a highly modern «IBU A licensed» biathlon center is awaiting the future of biathlon.

GRUSSWORT DES VERANSTALTERSDer Countdown zu den IBU Jugend- und Junioren- Weltmeisterschaften in der Schweiz läuft. Das Organisationskomitee in Lenzerheide schmiedet eifrig Pläne für ein einzigartiges Biathlonfest 2020.

Es ist uns eine Ehre, dass wir den Zuschlag zur Ausrichtung dieses Saisonhighlights erhalten haben. Dieser Grossanlass markiert den vorläufigen Höhe-punkt einer rasanten Entwicklung im Schweizer Biathlonsport und ist zugleich ein wichtiger Meilenstein auf dem Weg zu unserem Fernziel – Biathlon-Weltcups in die Schweiz zu holen.

Wir freuen uns, die besten 350 Nachwuchsathleten aus über 30 Ländern in Lenzerheide begrüssen zu dürfen. Wir alle streben motiviert und engagiert unserem Ziel entgegen, am Schluss strahlende Gesichter zu sehen, zufriedene Teams zu erleben und die Faszination Biathlon im ganzen Tal zu spüren.

GREETINGOF THE ORGANIZER The countdown to the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships in Switzerland has started. The Organising Committee in Lenzerheide is busily making plans for a unique biathlon festival in 2020.

We are honoured to have received the tender for hosting this highlight of the season. This big event not only marks a temporary peak in the rapid development of biathlon sport in Switzerland, but is also an important milestone on the way to our long-term objective of bringing biathlon world championships to Switzerland.

We are looking forward to welcoming 350 of the most talented young athletes from 30 countries to Lenzerheide. We are all fully motivated and commit-ted to our goal of seeing radiant faces, satisfied teams and an entire valley in the throes of biathlon fever.

A.7 HAFTUNG/VERSICHERUNG LIABILITY/INSURANCE

Laut Art. 1.5.1.2 der IBU Veranstaltungs- und Wett-kampfregeln müssen alle Teilnehmer im Besitz einer ausreichenden Unfall- und Krankenversicherung sein. Mit der namentlichen Meldung bestätigt der nationale Verband das Vorhandensein der geforder-ten Versicherung für Personen- und Sachschäden für alle angemeldeten Personen. Der Veranstalter übernimmt keinerlei Haftung für Sach- und Personenschäden.

According to IBU ECR Art. 1.5.1.2 all participants must be covered by sufficient health and accident insurance. By registering participating athletes, the representing national association confirms, that such sufficient coverage is provided for each person registered. The organising committee will not be liable for any damage of any kind (property or bodily).

Die Akkreditierung bei der Jugend- und Junioren- Weltmeisterschaften 2020 erfolgt im Auftrag und nach den Regeln der IBU durch die Firma Plaras. Das Akkreditierungsbüro befindet sich bei der Tennsi- anlage in Lantsch/Lenz (ca. 500 m von der Biathlon Arena entfernt).Alle Teams werden gebeten, sich gleich nach der Ankunft dorthin zu begeben und die Akkreditierungabzuholen.

The accreditation at the Youth and Junior World Championships 2020 takes place on behalf and according to the rules of the IBU by the company Plaras. The accreditation office will be located by the tennis court in Lantsch/Lenz (around 500 m from the Biathlon Arena).All teams are asked to visit the accrediation office immediately after arrival and to pick up their accreditations.
