On behalf of the city of Brisbane, Australia’s New World City, I warmly welcome you to the 2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum (#2015APCS).

Brisbane’s economic agenda is firmly focussed to increasing our ties with the Asia Pacific. The rapid growth and urbanisation in this region presents extraordinary opportunities and some challenges that must be met with leadership, forethought and innovation.

At #2015APCS, I look forward to deepening the dialogue on ‘business and leadership in the Asia Pacific’ examining the issues facing our cities and developing solutions that can be implemented across our region now and in the future.

2015 marks the tenth occasion that the Summit has been staged since it was established in Brisbane nearly two decades ago.

This year I have the pleasure of welcoming leaders of business and government from over 130 cities, many of whom will attend for the first time from across Australasia, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.

I welcome the strong interest shown in this year’s Summit and would encourage you to make the most of this opportunity to connect with mayors and delegates, to widen your international network and harness potential business opportunities.

The smarter and better-connected cities of the future will fully utilise a range of technologies to enhance environmental, social and economic performance. How can cities of today improve our housing, heritage, transportation, communications and city governance by embracing new and emergent technology?

FUTURE CITIES – developing cities and smart communities

How will cities tackle the challenges caused by increasing urbanisation? How should cities manage resilience, food supply, water security, sanitation, security and education?

CITIES FOR PEOPLE – clean, green, accessible and inclusive cities

How can administrations manage urban development and population growth in a resource-efficient and environmentally sensitive manner? What creative techniques, policies and technologies do cities have available to improve the quality of life of residents and how can cities create more engaging and inclusive public spaces.

A feature of the Summit is the Mayors’ Forum. The forum provides a private and exclusive opportunity for the heads of city governments to share knowledge, develop solutions for issues regarding city governance and promote the growth and prosperity of cities across the Asia Pacific region.

Young Professionals’ Forum Empowering our future leaders for tackling challenges of today

P3-P5, Mezzanine Level, BCEC

The Young Professionals’ Forum (YPs@APCS) is an ongoing feature of the Summit and provides an invaluable professional development opportunity for emerging private and public sector leaders from the Asia Pacific aged 18 to 30.

At 2015APCS, Young Professional delegates will be presented with a series of urban challenges relating to the Summit program themes. They will be tasked with finding responses to these challenges which are cost neutral or revenue positive to city governments. These responses will be presented to the Mayors’ Forum and to all 2015APCS delegates in a plenary session on Wednesday 8 July.

SPEAKERS’ LOUNGE AND SUPPORT CENTRE Access to the Speakers’ Lounge and Support Centre is limited to speakers programmed to present at 2015APCS sessions. It is located on the Concord level at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and may be accessed by taking the elevator located near the 2015APCS Registration and Delegate Services Desk, down one floor.

Alternatively, please ask for directions at the 2015APCS Registration and Delegate Services Desk.

Speakers please note:

• The Speakers’ Lounge and Support Centre will be open the same hours as 2015APCS Registration and Delegate Services desk.

• All speakers are requested to check in at the centre at least 12 hours prior to their presentation.

• It will not be possible for speakers to load presentations or use their own laptops/PC’s in session rooms as all presentations will be networked from the Support Centre to the presentation room.

LANGUAGE SERVICES The official language of 2015APCS is English and all presentations will be delivered in English.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Mandarin, Japanese and Korean at the Opening Ceremony and all Keynote and Plenary sessions. Interpretation will not be provided in concurrent sessions.

Please visit the Language Services Desk in the 2015APCS display (Plaza Auditorium Foyer) to collect headsets to receive interpretation in the above sessions.

FREE WIRELESS FOR DELEGATES Casual wireless internet is available at no cost to visitors of the centre and is designed for web browsing and checking web based email. It is not designed for accessing VPN’s or downloading large files. The speed is limited to 256k. BCEC LINK will appear as a wireless network delegate can choose. No password is required.

MOBILE PHONES As a courtesy to fellow delegates and speakers, please ensure that your mobile phone and devices are sent to silent or vibrate during 2015APCS sessions.

LUGGAGE STORAGE Cloakroom and baggage storage facilities are available at the BCEC Information desks located in the Grey Street and Merrivale Street foyers.

TOURIST REFUND SCHEME International travellers can claim back the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) they have paid on goods bought in Australia that they are taking with them when they leave the country.
