The Appel Family turned family recipes for household cleaners into

international powerhouse brands such as OxiClean, Orange Glo,

and Kaboom. They used infomercials in innovative ways, leveraged

outsourcing before it was widespread, and made their category

exciting for consumers.

Joel and his parents, Max and Elaine, will sit back and tell us about

their journey of taking the Orange Glo Corporation from garage to

global, and where they are now. Joel Appel, Founder

& CEO Launch Pad

2014 Business Plan Competition Sponsorship Opportunities

The Jake Jabs Center Business Plan Competition is one of the

foremost events for early-stage companies in Colorado. 2014

marks the 13th year of the competition, which seeks to promote

the development of high-caliber business ideas, recognize the

most outstanding plans with more than $50,000 in cash and in-

kind awards, and encourage the creation of new businesses.

Supporting the Business Plan Competition supports the growth

and development of new companies. This year’s Business Plan

Competition is expanding to graduate students at state

universities in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.

Audience: The event is attended by students, alumni, and

leaders of the business community. Over 3,000 people are

invited, and many business leaders support the event annually.

Attendance: An average of 250 people attend the luncheon

event, with an average of 50 entrants in the competition.

Media Coverage: Past competitions have been covered in

9News, the Denver Post and Business Journal, and

sponsorships are promoted internally and through the University

and Jake Jabs Center communications.

This year exposure will also include CBS4, and an

Advertisement will run in the Business Journal after the

competition.

After winning the 2013 competition,

Neil Smith launched Allergy

Solutions, Inc. in July 2013. The

company has continued to grow in

the past year, as have many other

competition applicants and finalists

from previous years.

The first year they didn't even make

the finals. However, the judges’

feedback was very useful. Taking a

course taught by the Jabs Center

was a great source of inspiration

and honest feedback for their

business model. Feedback from the

competition judges helped refine the

business idea and presentation into

a winning model

Neil says, “The financial prize from

the Jabs Center business plan

competition was very helpful in

launching Allergy Solutions,” and,

“The feedback that I received by

participating in the competition two

years in a row has been even more

valuable.”

Please consider sponsoring this event.
