At its 79th Annual General Meeting (AGM) here today, the KCCI declared the results of its recently held Executive Commit- tee 2013-14 elections and elected new office bearers. Outgoing president KCCI Abdul Hameed Punjabi declared the results of the elections and felicitated the new body. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani was elected as senior vice-president and Javid Ahmad Bhat as junior vice-president. To the post of General Sec- retary, Syed Musadiq Shah was elected while Faiz Ahmad Bakshi got the post of joint gen- eral secretary. Dr Gazala Amin, the lone female candidate was elected to the post of treasurer. Besides the office bearers, the candidates who will form the next executive committee include: Altaf Ahmad Tramboo, Mauzam Bakshi, Nazir Ahmad Wani, Ashfaq Siddiq Dug, Fayaz Ahmad Punjabi, Muzaffar Majid Jan, Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad, Prof A. Some three years ago, he joined the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) and made it to the Executive Body. MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar, Dec 7: Of the eight KCCI mem- bers who Friday alleged mass rigging and proxy voting in Kashmir Inc elections, four have surprisingly made it to the executive committee. The ‘estranged’ members who have been elected to the executive committee include: Nazir Ahmad Wani, Mauzam Bakshi, Prof A. R Wani and Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad. Curiously these members along with other four members had alleged that there was mass rigging in the voting of the KCCI. A day before the election results were scheduled to be announced these members had issued a statement alleging that they had evidence of mass rigging in the elec- tions. The other four estranged members includ- ed Syed Niaz Shah, Chowdhary Muhammad Shahid, Sheikh Gowhar Ali and Fayaz Ahmad Ahanger. “We have evidence that the election was rigged and proxy votes were cast by some contestants,” they had said in a statement. “We urge all the members of KCCI to take a stand and not let few unscrupulous elements in the chamber ruin this prestigious organiza- tion. Those who rig the elections cannot be business leaders and it will set a bad prece- dence,” they had said. According to KCCI insiders the four mem- bers who have made it to the executive com- mittee have secured good percentage of votes. “This itself nullifies their claim of rigging,” they said. However, the elected members today reit- erated their stand despite being elected in the executive committee. “We have taken a stand and we standby it, getting elected in the executive committee won’t change our statement that elections of chamber were rigged and even the scrutiniz- ers have given adverse report ,” said Nazir Ahmad Wani, former senior vice president, who has been elected now as EC member. “We are responsible persons and our posi- tion is clear that riggers cannot be business leaders,” Wani said. Muazzam Bakshi said: “Despite being elected in the executive committee I have dissociated myself from the chamber and have also conveyed my message to the chamber .”
