Addressing a day-long workers’ convention at Anziwala, Anantnag Senior National Conference lead- ers lashed out at the PDP- BJP Government for foist- ing an unholy, opportunis- tic political alliance on the people of the State and said PDP’s shocking ideological u-turn had rendered the party unpalatable in every nook and corner of the State. National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar said this was the first time in the history of the State and perhaps the entire country that a sitting Chief Minis- ter was openly terrified of her own electoral defeat. “Mehbooba Mufti lied to the Election Commission and used her political influence in the ruling circles in New Delhi to get the Anantnag Assembly Seat by-election postponed. She knows her defeat from Anantnag is a foregone conclusion and hence she will go to any extent to run away from her electoral test till she possi- bly can. Nothing could be a clearer self-indictment and confession of failure than the Chief Minister herself admitting that the people of the State have rejected her and her party”, the NC Gen- eral Secretary said while addressing party workers at Anziwala, Anantnag. National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said the PDP-BJP Govern- ment had abandoned all their promises and were solely obsessed with the spoils of political power. “Every single promise PDP made before elec- tions and every single promise they made in the ‘Agenda of the Alliance’ has been broken within the very first year of this alliance. Recent incidents and reactions by the people of the entire State, including Anantnag have made it amply clear that PDP has been completely rejected at the grassroots level. The Chief Minis- ter’s loss from Anant- nag is inevitable and her fear is justified. National Conference will ensure our grassroots cadre is consolidated and united in serving the interests of this State and right now the most important goal is to protect our political rights and special status from PDP”, Wani said.
