Thank you!

Adoration of the Most

Blessed Sacrament

When He returned, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one

hour?" Mark 14:37

Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part of an hour) of

your week with Jesus. Each Friday after the 9 AM Mass the

Blessed Sacrament is exposed upon the altar in the Lower

Church. The recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will take

place at 3:00pm, followed by reposition. Please join us. We are

committed to having at least two persons present at all times of

Adoration. There is a sign-in book in the Gathering Room near

the entrance to the Mary Chapel. If you can commit just one

hour or more, please contact Ursula Koslowski at 781/729-6170

or email: [email protected].

St. Mary Parish Third Sunday of Easter April 15, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

With the arrival of the Easter Season and

the “promised” warmer weather of

Spring, I think we all begin to cleanup

and throw out the ravages of the long

winter months. This week that process

will hit home for me. The extraordinary

parish family of Saint Mary will put me

out on Friday as it welcomes a new and

permanent Pastoral Administrator, Father Richard Erikson.

On my part I will be forever grateful for the opportunity

Cardinal Sean gave me to come to know the many, many

talented and energetic people that work so hard to make this

parish warm, welcoming and effective. This loving

community will be in my heart forever.

For you folks, this week will be yet another of the way too

many transitions. The wonderful thing this time, though, is

that Father Erikson’s appointment is not interim. You have

him, please God, for the long term. I know him to be a person

with many talents and skills. In addition, he has had a wide

range of very successful experiences: Pastoral ministry,

academic learning and teaching, military leadership and

Archdiocesan leadership. When I have observed life here, my

old “pastor’s eye” has seen a multitude of building issues that

will need fixing. There are also vital ministries that have faded

as the years have gone by. There is no doubt in my mind that

the new “Father Rich” will tackle these with his bright mind

and youthful energy. I am sure he will receive your generous

cooperation in facing the future.

When I see all the bright and happy faces of the over one

thousand children in our school and faith formation program, I

know how important it is to have a unified and energized

parish ministry for them now but even more so for their

future. To make this happen for them, may we in the words of

Saint Paul and in the spirit of tomorrow’s Boston Marathon,

be able to say “I have fought the good fight, I have run the

race, I have received the prize.”

My thanks go out to each staff person, ministry leader, and

parishioner. You all have made my stay with you a wonderful

experience.

Gratefully in God’s love,

Fr. John

3rd Sunday of Easter

Jesus asks the disciples in today’s gospel, and He asks us, “Why are you troubled?” We may want to respond, “Don’t you see the terrible things happening in our world?” Jesus responds to His disciples of every age, that suffering and hardship did not destroy Him, nor will it destroy us. That means that as His disciples, we are not meant to stay in the upper room—that place of fear and confusion. Rather Jesus sends His disciples out into the world. Take with you today the message of Easter joy, the message that is for all people.

Pastoral Administrator vs. Pastor

Question: Why will Fr. Erikson be our pastoral

administrator instead of our pastor?

Many people have asked what is the difference between

an administrator and a pastor, and why Fr. Erikson will

be an administrator and not a pastor? Pastor and

administrator have the same responsibilities and duties.

There will not be any difference on a day-to-day basis,

as Fr. Erikson will be doing everything a pastor would

do. The key difference is that a pastor is appointed for a

term, which for the dioceses in the United States is for

six years. An administrator has no term and thus serves

at the pleasure of the bishop. He can serve for a short

period of time, as Fr. Mulloy is doing for us as our

temporary administrator, or he can serve indefinitely.

The hope is that Fr. Erikson will lead our community for

many years. When Cardinal O’Malley was about to

launch the pastoral plan Disciples in Mission, the

Presbyteral Council recommended that he suspend the

appointments of pastors to any parishes that were not

yet in a collaborative. Thus he is only naming pastors to

parishes already in a collaborative. This is to allow him

the freedom to put parishes into collaboratives without

being bound by the term of office of a recently

appointed pastor. More information can be found at:

www.disciplesinmission.com. We thank God for the

many wonderful pastors who have served our parish

over the past 143 years. We pray now for our temporary

administrator, Fr. Mulloy and our pastoral administrator

starting on April 19, Fr. Erikson.

OUR COMMUNITY

Today’s Reflection

Easter Sunday may have been two weeks ago, but Easter Time is still just beginning. Other than Ordinary Time, Easter Time is the longest season of the Church year. Unlike Advent and Lent, two seasons that look forward to the two major feast days of the year, Easter is a season that prolongs the feast that’s already been celebrated. Because the resurrection of Christ is so important, the event calls for a celebration that continues for many weeks.
