STANDERTON - The DA of Stan-derton has lodged a complaint at the Provincial IEC after a person dressed in ANC attire drove people to and from a nearby farm to register at a voting point in Meyerville, a suburb of Stan-derton.

The vehicle was spotted at the vot-ing point with a driver and passengers wearing ANC colours. The people chanted “Viva ANC” before they en-tered the voting station. Members of the DA went to inspect their particulars after they gave up their addresses and registered. It was found that they were residing on a nearby farm which is not included in Ward 4, Meyerville. One person also recorded her address with only the street name with no number. Members of the DA then followed the vehicle and recorded its movement on video until the driver stopped next to the road where he dropped off the pas-sengers.

Councillor Louis van Rensburg of the DA says that it shows that the dis-honesty of President Zuma is boiling down to the roots of the ANC. The DA asked for the incident to be inves-tigated.

Van Rensburg said that they will make sure that the ANC does not use corrupt means to register people to vote for the ANC. The DA says that people supplied the IEC with false addresses and mislead the IEC. They thanked the IEC for their hard and loyal work. JD

STANDERTON - Calmness is restored at Lekwa Local Municipality after last week was characterized by ugly events when the Municipal Manager, Linda Tshabalala, was forcibly removed from office by disgruntled SAMWU members on Monday, 4 April. On Wednesday, 6 April, another episode unfolded when a group of SAMWU workers who are reportedly pro-Tshabalala, went to his residence and ordered him to come back to work. The manager agreed and was escorted back to his office.

On Thursday morning, 7 April, SAMWU members gathered at the Town Hall for a special meeting. Many observers suspected a split within the union, but after long deliberations their differences were put aside and a resolution was taken by the collective membership to let the manager remain in office without further disruption. However the union was mandated to communicate with the office of the MEC to request a speedy response regarding the release of the report of Section 106. The spokesperson for the union, Mr Sbusiso Mdluli, confirmed that members have resolved to suspend all disruptions and wait for the release of the report by the MEC.

When asked about the group that went to the manager’s house to get him back to office, Mdluli declined to comment and only said that all workers remain united and have collectively taken a decision to go back to work until the MEC releases her report. It would be unfair to pre-empt the results of the investigation. DM

Cosmos News would like apologise to the executive Mayor of Lekwa Local Municipality for the error on the front page article of 8 April 2016. The statement was in fact made by the Chairman of Samwu, Mr Vusi Dhlamini, not Mayor Dhlamini.

PERDEKOP - Three vehicles were involved in an accident on Sunday evening, 10 April, at about 19:30 on the R23 just outside Perdekop. Four people, of which one was in a critical condition, were evacuated to Standerton hospital by ambulance services. It is suspected that a fourth heavy motor vehicle could also have been involved but that it left the accident scene. The ambulance service, traffic officials, towing services and members of AfriFo-rum were on the scene. JD

Veediewe slag beeste

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6: 34 NKJV

What is it that you are wor-ried about today? Sickness, finances, that wayward child, broken dreams or relation-ships? Remember the well-known expression: “Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere.” God’s word says in Matthew 6: 27 “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” The answer is simply: no!

Even so, we wake up wor-ried and frustrated with the demands of the day, every day. What if you can take all your worries and cares and just give it to someone else to manage and resolve on your behalf?

The good news is that you can. When you are a child of God you have a Father in Heaven who is eager and pleased when you depend on Him for your every need. He says in verse 26, “Look at the birds of the air, for they nei-ther sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” He loves you, that’s why in 1

Peter 5: 7 he invites you to cast all your anxieties and fears on Him because He cares for you.

How do you cast your cares onto him? Listen to God’s loving and merciful instruc-tions in Philippians 4: 6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiv-ing, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Isn’t our Gods’ heart toward His children beautiful?

Every parent wants their child to be carefree and full of joy, how can we, as God’s children then not grasp that He wants exactly the same for us (John 10: 10). When we let go, and let God take care of us and our needs He gives us His peace (John 14:27).

The Hebrew word used for God’s peace is shalom which means: peace, harmo-ny, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tran-quillity.

When you trust God, you are not waiting to be taken care of, you and all your cares are taken care of and you can rest in knowing He has you in the palm of His hand (Isaiah 49:16).

Chris J Knightley passed away on 7 April 2016. A service will be held on 16 April at 10:30 for 11:00 at the Early Bird Social Club in Standerton.

Every great man has the wonderful ability to be small when needed. Chris was that kind of man!- With love Marthie ,Paula, James and Amelia

STANDERTON - The leader of the DA in Mpumalanga, James Masango MPL, visited Lekwa Municipality on Sunday, 10 April, to encourage residents to register to vote.

This was the last opportunity to register and to ensure your vote is counted among those millions to give hope to our children and grandchildren. Now, more than ever is the time for us as citizens to bring about change in our country and elect leaders and

a party that will uphold and respect our country’s constitution.

The DA appeals to everyone to vote for change that will deliver a better future and create jobs for the millions of South Afri-cans who suffer the consequences of poor leadership.

Masango was joined by DA councilors and activists and could be seen from 10:00 at the Standerton Town Hall. JD

STANDERTON - Unhappy Community Work Program workers in Sakhile called the media for intervention on Monday morn-ing, 11 April. They expressed unhappiness about unfair labour practices by their site manager, Mr Absalume Marko, who they claim is not paying them the amount due for work completed in March. Workers claim they have always worked eight days per month and get paid R640. Things changed in March when they were ordered to work twelve days and in return they would be paid R972.

When they spoke to the site manager, they received conflicting responses and in addi-tion five workers did not receive their salary at the end of March. The manager allegedly threatened to fire them if they don’t com-ply with the eight-days-work arrangement.

Situated next to Lekwa Municipal Offices in Sakhile, workers threatened to embark on a go-slow until they have met with manage-ment to solve their salary dispute. They also expressed unhappiness about the supervisor, Nomchato Kheswa, who is not interested to serve their interests, but rather abuse her powers to harass them.

When contacted for comment, site man-ager Marko, denied threatening workers with dismissal. He acknowledged that they worked twelve days in March, but were only paid for eight days. Management has opted to pay their outstanding monies at the end of April. This means that they will only work for four days and the four days’ outstanding money from March, will be paid in full. He said he was going to meet workers to clear up the misunderstanding. DM

It is alleged that the thugs gained entry through the kitchen window after remov-ing the burglar proofing. Once inside, the suspects went to the main bedroom, where the husband and his wife were sleeping.

Due to his injuries, he gave in and gave his firearm to them. The suspects also al-legedly stole two cell phones and a televi-sion and fled the scene.

According to the SAPS, the woman was not harmed during the robbery. The victim was taken to hospital and dis-charged after treatment.

Hier is gouemedaljewenner, Angelique Swanepoel, in aksie.

The par on every hole on the Standerton course is changed for the day to represent the scorecard that players receive at the Augusta event.

Johan Brink took the honours with his score of 42 and claimed bragging rights while wearing the green Masters jacket. Deon Grimsell ended second with 38 points, Dries van Vuuren third (37), Johann Jansen van Rensburg (36) fourth and Louis Gravett (36) fifth.

Two clubs were played by Andries Manka, Koos van Wyk (2), Johan Brink and Hannes Vermaak. The players who played nearest to the pin on the second green was Jacques Scholtz while Koos van Wyk landed nearest to the eighth pin. Ruan Brink played the longest drive of the day. JD

Green jacket for Johan

Johan Brink won the annual Standerton Masters Golf Competition on Saturday, 9 April. Johan obtained a score of 42 points and was able to wear the green Masters jacket for the day.

(Foto: Facebook)
