10th February 2019 5 Epiphany Welcome to this community of imperfect people called to be fishers of people for the Kingdom of God. This is all possible this morning only be his grace, and in his Spirit’s power. Praise the Lord! We are glad you are here. We are on the beach with the first people called into a life of following Jesus. It is a confronng morning! it is not just comfortable theory but uncomfortable calling. Jesus orchestrates a fishing incident to Peter and the others to reveal his calling to fish for people, not fish. Peter is called to push out into the deep water to fish. This is aſter a whole night of completely unsuccessful fishing. In the process he is confronted with himself and an incapability to meet the demands of this calling Jesus will eventually give to fish for people, not fish. Strange how the Lord calls incapable people to do their fishing work in the wrong place (deep water), at the wrong me (day me) and in a community (not alone), without using bait. This is not alone fishing with a rod. This is not bait fishing, but net fishing. No bait, no trickery, no decepon required; just a clear and present net. Our words and acons are not bait to trick them into faith or church. Our words and deeds are his truth, just clearly spoken with no hiding, no false promises, no special technology to make them workbeer, as we see it. May this Jesus call you in clear words for an honest appraisal of yourself so that the real fishing for people can begin or connue in earnest because the nets can be full. Pastor Adrian Kitson

Welcome to this

people for the

Kingdom of God. This

is all possible this

the Lord! We are glad

you are here. We are on the beach with the first people called into a life of following Jesus. It is a confronting morning! it is not just comfortable theory but uncomfortable calling. Jesus orchestrates a fishing incident to Peter and the others to reveal his calling to fish for people, not fish. Peter is called to push out into the deep water to fish.

This is after a whole night of completely unsuccessful fishing. In the process he is confronted with himself and an incapability to meet the demands of this calling Jesus will eventually give to fish for people, not fish. Strange how the Lord calls incapable people to do their fishing work in the wrong place (deep water), at the wrong time (day time) and in a community (not alone), without using bait. This is not alone fishing with a rod. This is not bait fishing, but net fishing. No bait, no trickery, no deception required; just a clear and present net.

Our words and actions are not bait to trick them into faith or church. Our words and deeds are his truth, just clearly spoken with no hiding, no false promises, no special technology to make them ‘work’ better, as we see it. May this Jesus call you in clear words for an honest appraisal of yourself so that the real fishing for people can begin or continue in earnest because the nets can be full. Pastor Adrian Kitson

• We grieve for Ruth Prescott who went to be with Jesus on 4th February. We pray for God’s comfort and peace for Kelvyn, Geoff and Avis, the rest of her family and her many friends.

• May God bless our Governance Council — people of our church community elected to serve as leaders. May God give them wisdom and bless them with vision.

• We thank God for the women who are on our floral art team, who share messages of God’s love and hope through beautiful arrangements in church all through the year. Please bless their planning for the big Vintage Festival display coming up soon.

• We pray for God’s healing and peace for those of our church family who are ill, facing medical treatment or recovering from surgery - and those who care for them: Janet Harris, Helen Walker, Lorna Vogt, Ruth Prescott, Barb Doecke, Roma Bray, Stella Schulz, Rosemary Angel, Val McCabe, Helen Thiele, Roma Bishop, Rosa Vogelsang (knee op next week), Kai Sauer (Father of Lara, John and Dagmar’s exchange daughter).

• We pray for members of our Church Family; Geoff & Rose ZERK, Rodney & Jenny WOOD, Margaret COOPER, Marnie RENNER, Chris MALBERG, Reg & Pam STAEHR and Luke, Faye, Adele, Karl and Ella ROTHE.

Wonderful to begin the exciting chapter of 2019 with you. I’d like to share an update on what is happening in various areas of Child, Youth & Family Ministry in St Petri Community. KIDS CONNECT (KC)– All thanks to God as we continue our Sunday morning KC children’s ministry at the 8.30am and 10.30am services. Our mission is to help young people explore God’s Word through bible stories, wondering questions, a creative response, (activity time where children draw, make arty collages, playdough-fun or write) group sharing of their arty activity and prayer. We are still keen for some more KC helpers. If you are willing to read a bible story and can encourage children in their activity time, we’d love you to join us. Twice a term is the commitment, thank you. CONFIRMATION – Last term we began Confirmation with 3 catch ups and we recommenced for 2019 last Wednesday. Our group includes 8 young people with leaders being Phillip Krahling, Pastor Adrian and Sharon Green. This term we will look at various topics such as Baptism, 10 Commandments, Peacemaking, Worship, Luther then and Luther now, Prayer, Quiet Time with God and Holy Communion. We will be visiting the Catholic and Uniting Churches in Nuri over the coming weeks too. Great to connect with other denominations to explore similarities and differences in worship and these visits have always been so well received by our young people. This afternoon our Confirmation families are joining us at Tanunda Kegel Club, for a bit of fun – so I guess we’ll see who can Kegel bowl! MESSY CHURCH – Our first Messy Church for this year was a movie afternoon, held on January 25th. Our families joined us in watching a movie called ‘Ferdinand’ – a great story for children and adults. After the movie we had a water-balloon game outside, with all generations involved. It was a lot of fun. For food time we enjoyed hotdogs and ice blocks. It was wonderful to see people not wanting to leave at 6pm, looking relaxed and happy to stay. Thank you to the volunteers who made this day happen. Our Messy Church dates for this year are: March 1, Apr 12, May 31, July 12, Aug 23, Oct 4, Nov 29. GROWING YOUNG CONFERENCE – On Saturday 16th February, St Petri is keen to get a team together to attend the Growing Young Conference. At this gathering, Growing Young co-author Jake Mulder will be sharing 6 essential strategies to help young people discover and love their church. The Conference is Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Para Vista from 9 – 4pm. If you would like to join us, please let Sharon know asap. It would be great to have all generations joining the team. This Conference is not only for ‘youth leaders’, but anyone is welcome. (Remember, it takes a village to raise a child….and we at St Petri are the village!) Cost $25. St Petri will sponsor your fee. Transport available. Sharon Green – Child Youth & Family Ministry Director
