SECTION 02735 WASTE WATER/GREY WATER TREATMENT PLANT 1. PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SECTION INCLUDES A. Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning

packaged type waste water/grey water treatment plant as shown on drawings and specified in this section, complete with tanks, equipment, pipe work, controls, instrumentation, wiring and other related civil, mechanical and electrical works.

1.02 SCOPE OF WORK A. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be supplied

and installed by a specialized Contractor approved by The Engineer.

B. Waste water/grey water treatment plant Contractor shall

be fully responsible for design, supply, installation, and testing and commissioning of complete waste water/grey water treatment works from waste water lift station to treated effluent backwash tank (both inclusive), and the equipment shelter as required.

C. The Contractor shall responsible for civil, mechanical

and electrical (power, lighting, panel boards and controls) works for the proposed waste water/grey water treatment facility.

D. Contractor's design for all waste water/grey water

treatment works including equipment, lift station, tanks and equipment shelter shall be subject to approval of The Engineer.

E. Contractor shall follow the recommendations of Soil

Investigation Report (available with the Owner) for the design of foundations for tanks, lift station and pump house or equipment shelter.

F. Waste water/grey water treatment plant Contractor shall

coordinate closely with other Contractors for works and requirements affecting waste water/grey water treatment system.

B. ANSI - American National Standard Institute ANSI B16.5 Steel Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings 1.04 DESIGN RESPONSIBILITY A. Provision of packaged type waste water/grey water

treatment plant shall include design, construction, testing, commissioning, training of personnel by Contractor for all works as mentioned in scope of work within the area, including the necessary interface of services required for proper operation of the waste water/grey water treatment plant.

B. Calculations and drawings for the proposed plant and

associated construction work shall be submitted to The Engineer for review and approval. Manufacturing shall not start until the design has been approved by the Engineer and proposed alterations have been agreed.

C. Design of waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be in accordance with the following:

1. Water Pollution Control Federation Manual of Practice

No. 8 2. ASCE Manual of Engineering Practice No.36 3. Or equivalent Codes and Standard approved by The

Engineer. D. Contractor shall make allowance for climatic and

environmental conditions of location with regard to treatment plant performance and impact on surrounding areas.

2. PART 2 -PRODUCTS 2.01 WASTE WATER/GREY WATER TREATMENT PLANT A. General: 1. Contractor shall design, supply, install, test and

commission packaged type waste water/grey water treatment plant as shown on drawings and as specified in this section complete with the interconnecting piping and electrical wiring, panel boards, control panels and instrumentation.

2. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall comply

with the requirements specified in this section as well as the relevant Sections of the Specifications.

3. All the pumps, except for chlorine dosing pumps,

shall be from single manufacturer. B. General Requirements: 1. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be

required to have minimum maintenance and supervision. The system shall not be affected by shock loading.

2. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be

virtually free from foul odor. The plant design shall enable sufficient dissolved oxygen in the process water at any given time.

3. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be

virtually noiseless in operation. 4. Waste water/grey water treatment plant (tanks) shall

be provided with suitable access for maintenance, inspection and easy collection of samples of both incoming untreated waste water and treated effluent.

C. Performance Requirements: 1. Capacity of Waste water/grey water Treatment Plant:

Waste water plant shall treat discharge indicated in drawings of domestic waste water with BOD, concentration of 250 mg/l and suspended solids concentration of 180 mg/l. Grey water treatment plant shall treat discharge indicated in drawings of grey water with BOD concentration of 50 mg/l and suspended solids concentration of 20 mg/l.

2. Waste water/Grey Water treatment plant shall be

capable of producing effluent of 5-day BOD (BOD5) demand not greater than 10 mg/l and suspended solids (SS) not greater than 10 mg/l after biological treatment.

3. Treatment plant shall be capable of producing, if

required, partially denitrified effluent under the calculated conditions of flow.

4. Treated effluent shall be sterilized by chlorination

and shall be of quality suitable for use for irrigation of ornamental gardens and trees and shall meet the disinfection standards of 2.2 MPN/100 ml. Residual chlorine shall not exceed 1 ppm. Effluent quality shall be:

- (BOD5): 5 MB/l or less - Suspended Solids (SS): 5 mg./l or less - COD: 40-60 mg./l - PH value: 7-8.5 - Grease & Oil: less than 5 mg./l 5. The Contractor shall provide water testing apparatus,

approved by the Engineer, for the measurement of the above-mentioned parameters.

6. Analytical determination mentioned in this section

shall be in accordance with the analysis of Raw, Potable and Waste Water as issued by Water Pollution Control Federation Manual of Practice No.8 or

equivalent Codes and Standards. D. Flow of Process: 1. Waste water/grey water treatment method shall be of

the Biological Process suitable for treating domestic waste water using Extended Aeration Single Basin Bio-Reactor system with low speed stainless steel (SS) surface aerator.

2. Raw waste water shall gravitate into the influent

lift station. 3. The influent shall be pumped by the one duty/one lag

non-clog submersible pumps into the bio-reactor tank through the coarse bar screen, each pump shall be sized for required average hourly flow. An electromagnetic flowmeter complete with flow indicator and totalizer shall be provided on the pump discharge line.

4. The bio-reactor shall be provided with a volume to

allow treat discharge indicated in drawings of domestic waste water purification.

5. Mixed liquor in the bio-reactor shall be aerated by a

slow speed, floating stainless steel surface aerator. The aerator turbine and the gear drive shall be designed to provide optimum mixing energy and oxygen absorption to the mixed liquor.

6. Aerator turbine, floating structure, buoyancy floats

and the flanged coupling shall be supplied in AISI-304 stainless steel construction.

7. Secondary effluent shall be chlorinated by sodium

hypochlorite solution injected upstream of the irrigation tank.

8. Scope of supply for the Extended Aeration System

shall consist of, but not limited to, the following: a. Lift station with duplex submersible grinder

pumps to pump waste water from lift station to waste water/grey water treatment plant. Pump capacity as indicated in drawings.

b. One electromagnetic flowmeter with flow

totalizer. c. Bio-reactor tank. d. Aeration equipment: Stainless steel slow speed

floating turbine aerator. e. Bio-reactor decant water system. f. Chlorine solution tank with chlorine dosing pumps

and accessories. g. Irrigation water storage tank with roof, access

opening, ladder, nozzles and level controls. h. Interconnecting electrical wiring, main control

panel, panel boards and instrumentation. i. Interconnecting piping and valves. j. Testing and commissioning. k. Operation and maintenance manuals. l. Training of personnel. m. Spare parts good for 1 year. n. Laboratory equipment.

9. Technical Equipments for a grey water treatment plant to be:

- Grey Water Collection Tank with three chambers - Submerged Ejector in Collecting Tank - Chlorine Solution Dosing Set - Co-Agulation Dosing Set - 2 Filter Feed / Backwash Pumps - Manual Sand Filter - Activated Carbon Filter - Treated Water Collection Tank with one chamber - Submerged ejector in Treated Water Collection

Tank - Control Panel and Cabling - Interconnecting Pipe Work.

2.02 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS A. Piping: 1. Above Ground: Carbon steel pipes and pipe fittings in

accordance with the following requirements: a. Pipes: Carbon steel, seamless conforming to ASTM

A 106, Grade B, Schedule 40. b. Fittings: Provide Manufacturer's standard flanged

type fittings as required conforming to ASTM A 105.

c. Jointing System: (1) Flanged-type joints, with flanges and

gaskets rated class 150 in accordance with ANSI B16.5.

(2) Bolting: Alloy stud bolts in conformance

with ASTM A 193/A, Grade B7 with semi-finished heavy pattern hex nuts in conformance with ASTM A 194, Grade 2H.

2. Below Ground: Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (uPVC)

pipes and pipe fittings in accordance with the following requirements:

a. Pipes: Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (uPVC),

Schedule 80 conforming to ASTM D 1785. b. Pipe Fittings: Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride

(uPVC), Schedule 80 conforming to ASTM D 1785, socket-type

c. Jointing System: Welded joints for joining pipes

and pipe fittings using solvent cement conforming to ASTM D 2564.

3. Painting for Above Ground Piping: All above ground

piping shall have enamel paint finish. 2.03 CHLORINE DOSING SYSTEM

A. Chlorine dosing system tank shall be of polythene

construction, size and shape as shown on drawings, and shall be provided with complete chlorine dosing system including chlorine dosing pumps of approved manufacturer, type and capacity as shown on drawings. Pumps shall be with control panel provided in weatherproof enclosure.

2.4 PLANT CONTROL PANEL A. Shall be manufacturer's standard suitable for the waste

water/grey water treatment plant operation. Control panel shall be installed in weatherproof polyester enclosure with IP 55 protection.

3. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Install materials and equipment in strict accordance with

the requirements of this Section and the written recommendations of the manufacturer as well as the applicable Sections of the USA Hydraulic Institute Standards.

B. Installation shall be performed by workmen skilled in

this type of work. C. Provide electrical motor-driven equipment complete with

motors, motor starters, and controls. Provide motor starters with properly sized thermal overload protection and other appurtenances necessary for the motor control specified.

3.02 TESTING AND COMMISSIONING A. General: Provide clean water, appliances, consumable

stores and waste water necessary for the complete testing of the waste water/grey water treatment plant and pumps.

B. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be tested

and commissioned to the complete satisfaction of The Engineer.

C. Following completion of erection and cleaning of tanks,

tanks shall be tested for liquid-tightness by filling the tank to its overflow elevation. Any leaks discovered by

this test shall be corrected by the Contractor in accordance tank manufacturer's written recommendation.

D. Prior to backfilling of any excavation, perform the

hydraulic test for the piping below. Waste water/grey water treatment plant shall be filled with water and kept filled for 2 days during which time it will be regularly inspected for loss of water and for signs of leakage externally.

E. Test will be deemed to be passed if The Engineer is

satisfied that there has been no perceptible loss of water through leakage during this period.

3.03 LABORATORY EQUIPMENT A. General: Contractor shall supply standard laboratory

equipment necessary for day-to-day operation of the plant including chemicals for laboratory analysis good for 3 months.

B. Laboratory equipment include the following as a minimum: 4. Portable Dissolved Oxygen Meter with automatic

temperature compensation. 5. Portable waste water/grey water treatment plant

laboratory equipment for carrying out the following tests:

- Dissolved Oxygen - Settlable Matter - Chlorine - pH - Temperature 3.04 WARRANTY A. Waste water/grey water treatment plant and the related

equipment specified in this section shall be guaranteed against defects for one year starting from the date of substantial handover.
