What is gap funding? When one funding source is not immediately available (Pell) or does not cover certain costs (support services), we use Self Pay to cover the “gap” until a student become eligible. “Pay your first semester and Pell will cover the rest when it comes in.”

Downsides of Braided Funding?

• Takes a lot of work to manage:

– Eligibility

– Threat of disallowed costs

– Interagency coordination

– Massaging “Win-Wins”

• Takes knowledge of what each customer and funding source can do

• Takes insane recordkeeping (difficult in large organizations where you do not have control over many processes)
