Term 1 Week 6 3rd March 2020

From the Principal

Principal Induction Conference

Evidence around the world shows that investing in leadership at all phases of a school leader’s career will make a substantial difference to the quality of teaching and therefore the quality of student learning in our school. From the 19-21 February I had the pleasure of attending the Principal Induction Conference in Sydney delivered by the Department of Education School Leadership Institute. This conference provided

engaging, relevant and significant professional learning. This included leading high quality teaching and learning across the school, enhancing student wellbeing strategies, and ensuring that in our school community every child is known, valued and cared for. I was reminded of the importance of modelling lifelong learning to my staff and students. Conferences of this nature enable me to focus on quality teaching and leadership practices that have the greatest impact on teacher learning and therefore the outcomes of our students.

Assembly Address Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to our Rooty Hill PS students at the Year 1 - 6

assembly. During my speech I spoke about the time that teachers have been taking over

the past week to collaboratively develop learning goals for every student in every class.

Individual learning goals are determined by identifying where a student is at in their

learning and where they are going to next. Teachers also discuss how they will know when

a student has been successful in achieving their goal.

Talking with our students in the playground I heard about all of the many people whom

they look up to. Not only did

they include famous sporting

stars and superheroes, they also included mums, dads,

sisters, brothers, cousins,

aunties, uncles and

grandparents. In our

discussions we highlighted the

fact that each of these people

tried their very best to reach

their dreams. I am very much

looking forward to celebrating

Rooty Hill Public School

students achieving their goals

throughout the year.

Parent Communication

To receive the most effective and timely response to a query, parents are asked to use the following steps when directing their communication within the school. The steps only progress to the next step if the issue or concern is not satisfactorily resolved. For administrative questions or concerns please see our administrative team in the school office. For academic, social/emotional or behavioural questions or concerns about your child please see: 1. Classroom Teacher. 2. Assistant Principal (Grade Coordinator) - Learning Support Team - School Counsellor. 3. Deputy Principal. 4. Principal. We strongly value a positive home/school partnership and look forward to working in collaboration with you throughout the year.

Celebration of Learning

This fortnight I have had the pleasure of hearing from 6R students who shared their persuasive writing about junk food and I must say that their writing was very convincing! I have enjoyed visiting many classrooms seeing great teaching and learning taking place - a highlight was a visit to 2C where I was invited to join in their drama activity on Friday afternoon. I have also had the pleasure of seeing some great graffiti name art in Year 5. Finally, I was blown away by the writing of Elijah and Bryson who have collaboratively written their own chapter book about the mystery of the golden boot. Elijah and Bryson have given me permission to share their work in our online newsletter. I hope you enjoy the read as much as I did, particularly their use of descriptive language in the opening paragraphs. Impressive writing boys!

2020 Zone Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 26th February, I took 16 students to Mt Druitt Pools to compete in the Mt

Druitt Zone Carnival. Yonalee P, Thivain P, Ava F, Vivian F, Ebony D, Zachary D, Holly S,

Aiden M, Charlea M, Tamzyn L, Patrick B, Avarni K, Keira P, Emily C, Ryan H and Kaixi Y.

Each and every student displayed terrific sportsmanship by cheering on and supporting

their fellow students. The students all swam to the best of their abilities and they

achieved some amazing times in the pool. Most students improved on their times from

our school carnival. Rooty Hill Public School came 3rd overall in points for the carnival. We

are now waiting on the official results to see which students have now made it through to

the Sydney West Carnival which will be held at Homebush Aquatic Centre. The teacher

from Whalan Public School who was in charge of running the carnival came to find me on

the day to commend our students on their sportsmanship and show of support for not

only our school students but students from

other schools as well.

Well done to all students who attended the

carnival.
