INTRODUCTION TO TOPIC

CLOTHING

Clothing is fiber and textile material worn on the body. The wearing of clothing ismostly restricted to human beings and is a feature of nearly all humansocieties.

The amount and type of clothing worn is dependent on physical stature, gender, as

well as social and geographic considerations.

Physically, clothing serves many purposes: it can serve as protection from

the elements, and can enhance safety during hazardous activities such ashiking and

cooking. It protects the wearer from rough surfaces, rash-causing plants, insect  bites, splinters, thorns and prickles  by providing a barrier between the

skin and the environment. Clothes can insulate against cold or hot conditions.

Further, they can provide a hygienic  barrier, keeping infectious and toxic materials

away from the body. Clothing also provides protection from harmful UV radiation.

Traditional shopping

Traditional shopping is a term used to refer to the old way of doing shopping

where you visit stores and buy goods. Nowadays with the advancement of

technology people buy goods from online stores hence the term traditional

shopping, is used to refer to the old method.

A retailer  or  shop  is a business that presents a selection of  goods or  services and

offers to sell them to customers for money or other goods. Shoppingis an activity

in which a customer browses the available goods or services presented by one or

more retailers with the intent to purchase a suitable selection of them. In some

contexts it may be considered a leisure activity as well as an economic one.

With popular trends and demands the concept of the Internet as the way forward to

increase profit margins, companies new and old are creating websites here and

there.

The significance for retailers to having a web site is that a web site is informational

and transactional in nature (Murphy, 1998). As the web site can be used for

advertising and direct marketing; sales; customer support and public relations.

With seasonal events and holidays, the Internet has become a tool for a quick and

stress free method of shopping. Allowing retailers to cash in the profit from

another useful shopping channel

  Online Apparel Shopping

“  A web site is informational and transactional by nature”, the motive to drive

retailers to become part of the E-tailers group is that business through various

shopping channels can increase profit. This is the same case for all types ofretailers.

In this chapter the main focus is about Online Apparel Shopping. The reasons for

choosing this field is that this is an area that not a lot has been discussed in detail.

WHAT IS ELECTRONIC COMMERCE?

Even today, some considerable time after the so called „dot com/Internet

revolution‟, electronic commerce (e-commerce) remains a relatively new,

emerging and constantly changing area of business management and information

technology. There has been and continues to be much publicity and discussion

about e-commerce. Library catalogues and shelves are filled with books and

articles on the subject. However, there remains a sense of confusion, suspicion and

misunderstanding surrounding the area, which has been exacerbated by the

different contexts in which electronic

commerce is used, coupled with the myriad related buzzwords and acronyms. This

book aims to consolidate the major themes that have arisen from the new area of

electronic commerce and to provide an understanding

of its application and importance to management.

As with e-commerce, e-business (electronic business) also has a number of

different definitions and is used in a number of different contexts. One of the first

to use the term was IBM, in October 1997, when it launched a campaign built

around e-business. Today, major corporations are rethinking

their businesses in terms of the Internet and its new culture and capabilities and

this is what some see as e-business.

E-business is the conduct of business on the Internet, not only buying and selling

but also servicing customers and collaborating with business partners.E-business

includes customer service (e-service) and intra-business tasks.

E-business is the transformation of key business processes through the use of

Internet technologies. An e-business is a company that can adapt to constant and

continual change.

  What we know about websites

A website, also written as Web site, web site, or simply site,is a set of related web

pages served from a single web domain. A website is hosted on at least one web

server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network

through an Internet address known as a Uniform Resource Locator. All publicly

accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web.

A webpage is a document, typically written in plain text interspersed with

formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). A

webpage may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup

anchors.

Webpages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol

(HTTP), which may optionally employ encryption (HTTP Secure, HTTPS) to

provide security and privacy for the user of the webpage content. The user's

application, often a web browser, renders the page content according to its HTML

markup instructions onto a display terminal.

The pages of a website can usually be accessed from a simple Uniform Resource

Locator (URL) called the web address. The URLs of the pages organize them into

a hierarchy, although hyperlinking between them conveys the reader's perceived

site structure and guides the reader's navigation of the site which generally includes

a home page with most of the links to the site's web content, and a supplementary

about, contact and link page.

TECHNOLOGY USE FOR MAKING A WEBSITE

  HTML

  PHP

  JS

  CSS

  CMS

  MYSQL

  HTML

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for creating

web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.

HTML is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags enclosed in

angle brackets (like <html>), within the web page content. HTML tags most

commonly come in pairs like <h1> and </h1>, although some tags represent empty

elements and so are unpaired, for example <img>. The first tag in a pair is the start

Page 13: Yet to Be Printed

8/12/2019 Yet to Be Printed

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/yet-to-be-printed 13/50

tag, and the second tag is the end tag (they are also called opening tags and closing

tags). In between these tags web designers can add text, further tags, comments

and other types of text-based content.

The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and compose them into

visible or audible web pages. The browser does not display the HTML tags, but

uses the tags to interpret the content of the page.

HTML elements form the building blocks of all websites. HTML allows images

and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms. It provides

a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text

such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other items. It can embed

scripts written in languages such as JavaScript which affect the behavior of HTML

web pages.

Page 14: Yet to Be Printed

  PHP

PHP is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also

used as a general-purpose programming language. PHP is now installed on more

than 244 million websites and 2.1 million web servers.Originally created by

RasmusLerdorf in 1995, the reference implementation of PHP is now produced by

The PHP Group. While PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page, it now

stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, a recursive acronym.

PHP code is interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module which

generates the resulting web page: PHP commands can be embedded directly into

an HTML source document rather than calling an external file to process data. It

has also evolved to include a command-line interface capability and can be used in

standalone graphical applications. PHP is free software released under the PHP

License, which is incompatible with the GNU General Public License (GPL) due

to restrictions on the usage of the term PHP.PHP can be deployed on most web

servers and also as a standalon shell on almost every operating system and

 platform, free of charge.

  Javascript:

JavaScript (JS) is an interpreted computer programming language. It was originally

implemented as part of web browsers so that client-side scripts could interact with

the user, control the browser, communicate asynchronously, and alter the

document content that was displayed. More recently, however, it has become

common in both game development and the creation of desktop applications.

JavaScript is a prototype-based scripting language with dynamic typing and has

first-class functions. Its syntax was influenced by the language C. JavaScriptcopies many names and naming conventions from Java, but the two languages are

otherwise unrelated and have very different semantics. The key design principles

within JavaScript are taken from the Self and Scheme programming languages. It is

a multi-paradigm language, supporting object-oriented,imperative, and functional

 programming styles.

JavaScript's use in applications outside of web pages — for example, in PDFdocuments, site-specific browsers, and desktop widgets — is also significant. Newer

and faster JavaScript VMs and frameworks built upon them (notably Node.js) have

also increased the popularity of JavaScript for server-side webapplications.

  CASACADING STYLE SHEET (CSS):

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the

presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a

markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in

HTML and XHTML, but the language can also be applied to any kind of XML

document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL.

CSS is designed primarily to enable the separation of document content (written in

HTML or a similar markup language) from document presentation, including

elements such as the layout, colors, and fonts. This separation can improve content

accessibility, provide more flexibility and control in the specification of

presentation characteristics, enable multiple pages to share formatting, and reduce

complexity and repetition in the structural content (such as by allowing for

tableless web design). CSS can also allow the same markup page to be presented in

different styles for different rendering methods, such as on-screen, in print, by

voice (when read out by a speech-based browser or screen reader) and on Braille-

based, tactile devices. It can also be used to allow the web page to display

differently depending on the screen size or device on which it is being viewed.

While the author of a document typically links that document to a CSS file, readers

Page 17: Yet to Be Printed

8/12/2019 Yet to Be Printed

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/yet-to-be-printed 17/50

can use a different style sheet, perhaps one on their own computer, to override the

one the author has specified.

  CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:

A Content Management System (CMS) is a computer program that

allows publishing, editing and modifying content as well as maintenance

from a central interface. Such systems of content management provide

procedures to manage workflow in a collaborative environment. These

procedures can be manual steps or an automated cascade. CMSs have been

available since the late 1990s.

.CMSs are often used to run websites containing blogs, news, and shopping. Many

corporate and marketing websites use CMSs. CMSs typically aim to avoid the needfor hand coding, but may support it for specific elements or entire pages.

  MY SQL:

MySQL ( "My S-Q-L", officially, but also called "My Sequel") is (as of July 2013)

the world's most widely use relational database management system (RDBMS) that

runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases, though

SQLLite probably has more total embedded deployments. It is named after co-

founder Michael Widenius's daughter, My. The SQL phrase stands for Structured

Query Language.

The MySQL development project has made its source code available under the

terms of the GNU General Public License, as well as under a variety of proprietary

agreements. MySQL was owned and sponsored by a single for-profit firm, the

Swedish company MySQL AB, now owned by Oracle Corporation.

MySQL is a popular choice of database for use in web applications, and is a central

component of the widely used LAMP open source web application software stack

(and other 'AMP' stacks). LAMP is an acronym for "Linux, Apache, MySQL,

Perl/PHP/Python." Free-software-open source projects that require a full-featured

database management system often use MySQL.

SOFTWARE USE FOR MAKING THE WEBSITE:

  WAMP SERVER

  DREAMWEAVER

WAMP SERVER:

  Introduction:

AMP is an acronym for Apache (an HTTP Server), MySQL (a relational database)

and PHP (a server-side programming platform). These are industrial-strength,

open-source software that collectively can be used to develop, deploy and run web

applications. Depending on the operating platform, we have:

  WAMP: Windows-Apache-MySQL-PHP

  LAMP: Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP

  MAMP: Mac-Apache-MySQL-PHP

You can choose to install the components individually, or use a bundled software

 package. For example,

  WampServer ](@ http://www.wampserver.com/en/) (Windows only).

  Easy PHP (@ http://www.easyphp.org/).

  XAMPP (@ http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) (for Linux,

Windows, Mac OS).

I shall assume that you are familiar with Apahe, MySQL and PHP. Otherwise, read

"How to setup and get started with Apache HTTP Server ", "How to setup and get

started with MySQL".

Page 21: Yet to Be Printed

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/yet-to-be-printed 21/50

  Setting Up WampServer

WampServer (@ http://www.wampserver.com/en/)  bundles Apache, MySQL and

PHP for Winodws in a single package. It also includes tools such as PhpMyAdmin

(a MySQL database administration tool), SQL Buddy (an alternative to

PhpMyAdmin), XDebug (a PHP Debugging Tool), WebGrind (a PHP Profiling

Tool).

  Installing Wamp Server

To Install WampServer:

1.  Download: GotoWampServer mother site

at http://www.wampserver.com/en⇒  Select "DOWNLOADS" ⇒  Choose

the appropriate package for your platform (e.g., WampServer 2.2e (32 bits))

⇒  Download the installation file (e.g., wampserver2.2e-php5.4.3-

httpd2.2.22-mysql5.5.24-32b.exe).

2.  Install: To install the WAMPServer, simply run the downloaded installation

file. Choose your installation directory. I shall assume that WampServer is

installed in "d:\WampServer", denoted as <WAMPSERVER_HOME>, in

this article.

  Starting WampServer

To start the WampServer, choose "start WampServer" from the "Start" menu; or

run "wampmanager.exe" from the WampServer installed directory. An icon will

appear on the icon tray. "Green" icon indicates that all the services have started.

"Red" indicates that all the services have stopped. You can put the server online

(so that user can access the server over the Internet) by selecting the option "Put

Online". Alternatively, you could put the server "Offline", such that it is accessible

only within the localhost.

Page 22: Yet to Be Printed

8/12/2019 Yet to Be Printed

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/yet-to-be-printed 22/50

  Verifying the Installation

By default, a directory called "www" was created under the Wamp Server installed

directory, which serves as the root directory of the Apache Server. A welcome

page called "index.php" was also created in the "www" directory.

To verify the installation:

Start the Wamp Server. Wait for the icon to appear green (indicates that all

services have started). Otherwise, click the icon and select "Start All

Services". For testing, put the server "offline" to disable external access

(i.e., it can be accessed only in localhost).

Start a browser and issue URL http://localhost. This will in turn request for

"index.php". Observe the output and compare with "index.php" source.

Dream weaver :

A comprehensive Web site authoring program for Windows and Mac from Adobe.

Dreamweaver is a sophisticated authoring package that enables the HTML

programmer to build complex interactive Web sites using HTML, JavaScript and

server-side programming languages. It is not a wiz wig program, allowing the user

to drag and drop images on any part of the page. In fact, many common Web

elements are best coded in HTML, and Dreamweaver immediately renders the

code in a design window. Prebuilt templates provide rudimentary foundations for

creating Web pages. Dreamweaver was originally developed by Macromedia,

which was acquired by Adobe in 2005.
