Year 6 Autumn 1: Time travel Performing Arts/Music What Dr Who Drama – acting out life from different eras eg. Differences in Victorian times between the rich and poor. Listening to Music from different eras e.g. 1950’s and classical music. Compare and contrast, identify musical instruments from different times. How Pupils will go on a journey through time and space to role play different people from various eras, including ghost stories from the past. Literacy/Numeracy and history skills will be used in the work they do. Pupils will reinforce knowledge of the orchestra by listening and responding to Fantasia and Hall of the Mountain King. Compare to 1950’s music – sounds and instruments. Create Dr Who style or scary theme music of their own. Visual Art/DT: Portraits – silhouettes from Victorian Times, Pop Art portraits from 1950’s/1960’s. Drawings with perspective of Manningham Mills (Victorians and 3-D shapes). Make a Tardis – as a problem solving activity for a toy company competition – how? Nets/measures/shapes/electrical circuit to light the top. Computing: What Design, write and debug programmes that will accomplish specific goals including control systems. How Logo and Also: ICT to be used for research and other curriculum areas. Internet safety and selection of keywords and search engines to be used effectively. Numeracy What NUMBER: Ordering, rounding, place value. Number patterns. 4 operations including decimals, fractions, percents and word problems. SHAPES AND MEASURE: Properties of 2-d and 3-D shapes. STATISTICS: Averages. Pie-charts. How Daily counting activity. Daily Mental Maths warm-up. Numeracy lessons 3 1 1 in Number, Measure, Geometry, Statistics, Problem solving. Passport lessons (PM). Gecko day and 8 problem solving methods. PSHE & SEAL & RE & P4C What SEAL- Going for goals. PSHCE – Linked to Going For Goals RE – World Faiths How Pupils will look at the issues facing people in unfamiliar situations through stories, drama and music. Pupils will consider how inspirational individuals have changed our world. Pupils will explore ways in which different religions worship and share the same community. PE What Indoor: Balance and counter-balance Outdoor: Football skills. Team and individual skills. How Indoor: Children will plan, develop, perform and improve a gym sequences with balance and counterbalance (Val Sabin). Outdoor: Team and individual skills. English What Read and experience a range of Fiction Texts in a variety of genres (Myths and Legends, Adventure, Fantasy, Horror and Ghost etc) through Guided Reading and Literacy lessons. How Children will produce three separate narratives: Myths, Ghost story, and either adventure/fantasy or Science Fiction. A variety of literary techniques and devices will be taught to enhance their writing and linked to their impacts upon readers. Children will develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between author and reader. Guided Reading: “Tom’s Midnight Garden” Guided Reading: A variety of fiction genres. Look at impact the end of WWII had on world relations, and how D-Day contributed to this. Study some of the significant statistics of WWII and D-Day. GPaS: What Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation Consolidate use of modal verbs and adverbs to indicate degrees of possibility. Use of brackets, dashes or commas to indicate parenthesis. Use of commas to clarify meaning or avoid ambiguity. How Applying knowledge of GPaS in Picture of the Week and Englsih lessons. Spelling Endings spelt –cious or –tious.
