Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the Autumn1 edition of our newsletter. As you will see from the contents, this covers news from not just this term but also the celebration of achievement last summer.
At this time of year we are always reviewing the summer results for our last Year 11 and I am pleased to announce that whilst the results were not as high as the previous year, they were very much inline with our expectations, I am also pleased to report that all the boys have successfully started on their college or apprenticeship courses, which is a credit to them but also to the preparation which my staff put in in paving the way. Transitions are always a tricky time for our boys, so well done and wish them every success for the future.
As you will see from the pages inside six of our boys were lucky enough to be selected to take part in a sail training trip with The Island Trust based in Plymouth. Following a very generous deposit donated by a charity in Bristol
and a bursary from the Trust, the boys were able to experience an amazing trip with myself, Mr Biggs & Mr McClaughlin. The trip really showed the boys characters as they learnt to deal with the cramped conditions onboard; being hauled out of their bunk in the middle of the night to
go on watch; to the teamwork involved in scrubbing the decks; cooking everyone’s meals and hoisting the massive sails. The boys saw dolphins everyday as we sailed along the Cornish coast. Some of them were troubled by seasickness but pushed through the tough times to enjoy a truly memorable week.
Thank you to the Island Trust and Henbury Charity who supported the trip.

Welcome to the Autumn Term
Our boys went on a sailing adventure
from Plymouth to Mounts Bay; sailing
along the Cornish coast, up the Helford
river and Fowey—with our Richard Berry
(School Head), Andy Biggs (Outdoor Ed)
and Mike McClaughlin (Class Leader)!
The group saw dolphins, shooting stars, learnt about teamwork, how to sail, and saw some amazing sights! The students were thrilled and have some amazing memories that’ll last a lifetime.
Sailing
Trip!
Yes, Chef! Sky students using the kitchen to prepare and cook up some yummy food!
Some of our students showing
off their very impressive trampolining skills at a
recent activity afternoon. We made the most of the sunny Summer weather with our ‘slip & slide’, acrobatic somersaults through the air, and with ball games in the field.
Outward Bound
A group of Sky College students went on an expedition, taking to great heights and exploring the great out-
doors. Lots to hike across and climb... - As long as there’s safety suspension ropes!
The students of sky college showed that we have lots to celebrate. Our team are all very proud of all of the accomplishments that our boys have earned.
Lots of awards and certificates!
We are looking for parents to join our governing body. Your input on issues such as finance, site management and curriculum development will help to influence and improve school performance. Free training is available to develop skills and boost self-confidence.

A Rules Reminder.
Mobile ‘Phones: Students are not allowed to use mobiles during the school day.
We know that many have long journeys and use mobiles as a distraction on
their taxis. Students are expected to hand in their phones at the beginning of
the day when they are locked away and returned to students at the end of the
day.
Uniform: We have a clear uniform code: black trousers, black footwear, Sky top
and jumper.
Smoking: Smoking is not allowed on site; this includes all forms of tobacco,
‘vapes’ and electronic cigarettes.
Off Site: Students in Y10 and 11 are only allowed offsite with parent/carer
written permission and a completed passport for all morning lessons.
Please talk to your son about these expectations, it’s really important for us to
work together to ensure that students are really clear about the rules.
Thankyou!
