YEAR 6 PARLIAMENT Congratulations to our Year 6 Parliament Leaders for 2020, receiving their badges at our assembly this morning. Our school parliament reflects students who are both leaders and shadow leaders and gives Stage 3 students a ‘hands on’ understanding of Govern-ment. Good luck to our new leaders, we are looking forward to in-depth debates and fabulous ideas for the future.
BUSHFIRE APPEAL THANK YOU Last week we appealed to our community to help support families that suffered and continue to suffer from the effects of bushfire. Our community came together and supplied 15 backpacks full of stationery items for the students of Baryulgil Public School, these were sent today. We are now ready to send out first load of backpacks to Glenn Innes High School. Thank you to our wonderful community members who helped in this effort.

We recently studied several books from Jackie French’s natural disaster series, with artwork by Bruce Whatley. The students discussed the drought and the bushfires that have affected Australia over recent times. They lis-tened to the books being read and studied the illustrations and discussed the style of artwork, the colours and the mediums used. They then produced their own artwork based on these themes with quite stunning results.

Presentation & Information Session
Our school will be in partnership with Children’s University Newcastle for 2020. This program is designed to con-nect children and families to learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Children are given a passport to learning and encouraged to find NEW learning experiences within their local and regional areas. Children work towards logging the learning hours and are able to work through certificate levels based on hours of learn-ing. All children who reach 30 hours for the year will be invited to attend a Graduation Ceremony with their family in term 4. As this is our first year in this program it has been decided to offer the program to our Year 5 students. An invita-tion has been sent out to all Year 5 parents
Find out more via our Facebook page Children's University Australasia (Newcastle) and please come along to the Presentation and Information Session this Thursday.

Clean up Australia Day for Schools
Last Friday our school took part in the annual Clean Up Australia Day.
Students and teachers worked together to clean up our playground. It was great to see our students get involved so enthusiastically. They especially en-joyed the weigh in to determine which stage group collected the most rubbish. It was a bit of a difficult between years 2/3 and years 4/5, but with the help of Kindergarten and Years 1 and 2 our playground is a lot cleaner!
