Library News
Book Week Term 3 is all about ‘Book Week’. The theme for this year is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’. Students are discussing this theme as well as reading the shortlisted books in their library lessons throughout this term. Our school will have a few events taking place in week 5 to celebrate Book Week. On Tuesday 29th August, the Annual Book Parade will be held. Students are encouraged to come dressed up to the theme or as a character from a favourite book. Please don’t go to a lot of expense on costumes – the homemade ones, really do look the best! The scholastic website has some great ideas and a few free printable masks that could be of benefit. http://www.scholastic.com.au/dressuptime Parents are invited to come along to watch the parade and then stay for a picnic lunch with their children. Our Book Fair will be held in the Library through out the day and students and parents are invited to come view and make purchases to support our library. Any profits made go to provide ongoing new books in the library for our students. On Wednesday of that week, students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will be treated to a Book Week perfor-mance put on by Maitland City Library. Reminder that a number of classes have had their Library days changed. Can you please help your child by re-minding them to bring their Library bags on their day.

Debating News Last Wednesday, the Year 5 Debating team travelled to Thornton Public School for Round 4 of the 2019 Premier’s Debating Challenge against their Year 6 team. After winning the toss, our students formed the affirmative side in the debate that; “schools should reward students who improve their grades with vouchers for McDonalds and KFC”.
It was a difficult debate which both teams argued extremely well, presenting good cases. After deliberation, the APS team were commended by the ad-judicator on the tight case they presented and the good team work they dis-played and they were awarded the win. This is a big feather in their cap, taking on and winning against a Year 6 side. Congratulations Rory, Monique, Piper and Gabby. The next debate will be held Monday 12th August when the Year 6 team goes against Woodberry PS. Sensei Davey, Teacher Librarian
