Mathematics
Thishalftermwehavestartedtheyear3curriculumoftheMaths–NoProblemschemethatthechildrenhavefollowedinKS1.Childrenhavecontinuedtosolvenumberproblemsandrecognisingplacevalue.Thistermwewillrevisitcountinginones,tensandhundredsbeforeintroducingcountinginfifties,foursandeightsinlinewiththeyear3curriculum.
Childrenwillcontinuetodeveloptheiradditionandsubtractionskillsincludingaddingandsubtractingwithrenaming.Thiswillcontinuethroughouttheautumntermandthechildrenwillbeencouragedtoexplainhowtheygottheiranswers,considerwhatothermethodswereavailableto

themandexplainhowtheycanimprovetheirmathematicalefficiency.

Allstylesoftextwillbelinkedtotheclass’topic–TheStoneAge.Childrenwillcontinuetodeveloptheirwritingskills,usingarangeofconjunctions,adjectives,thepresentperfectformofaverb,punctuating speechandpossessiveapostrophe.Wewillalsobedevelopingourproofreadingandeditingskillsforboththeirownandotherchildren’sworkusingeditingstations.

Thistermwewillbelookingat‘Rocks’.Wehavestartedtolookatthedifferenttypesofrocksandthechildrenhaveidentifiedrocksaroundschoolandsortedrocksintonaturalandmanmaderocks.Wewillalsolookatdifferenttypesofrocksandthechildrenwillsortrocksbasedontheirproperties.Childrenwilllearnhowfossilsareformedandtheimportanceofstudyingfossils.Childrenwillalsolearnhowsoilismadeandtheywillcomparedifferentsoilsintermsofcomposition.

WearestartingtouseClassdojoasarewardsysteminschool,whichthechildrenareenjoyingalready.Theywillbegivendojosforfollowingexpectationsandpositivechoiceswiththeirbehaviorandwork.Dojoscanalsobedeductedasaprompttoremindchildrenoftheexpectationsiftheyaremakingthewrongchoices.Childrenwiththemostdojoswillreceiveaspecialprizefortheirhardwork.
Childrenwillalsoberewardedforoutstandingattendanceinschool.Theclasswiththehighestweeklyattendancewillberewardedeachweekandchildrenwhoachieveover97%attendancewillberewardedeachterm.
