Day 5
Reading
FOCUS: Identifying new information in our reading. Daily Practise: Students read their take home books and/or other Just Right books they may have at home. Active Learn is also available for use at home: ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.com.au) Students have their login details from the last lockdown. Task: After reading the information about spiders write down 3 fascinating facts you read about spiders. Use the information to draw a detailed lifecycle of a spider.
Writing
FOCUS: SENTENCE FLUENCY
Daily Practise: Vocab- What does the suffix -ist mean?
Research and find a collection of words that have ist at the end.
Select 3 of those words you found and work out what they mean.
Eg: Entomologist: a scientist who studies insect
Task: Roll A Sentence
Today’s writing is fun, and requires a lot of clever thinking. You will need a dice or a deck of cards to help you out.
The dice (or cards) will decide the lengths of your sentences. If you roll a 4, your sentence should be 4 words long. If you roll a 2,
your sentence should be 2 words long. This activity can be tricky but once you get the hang of it, it is really fun.
Today we can break some of the rules. Our sentences may not all make sense, but try your best to keep your writing flowing.
Your topic is: The Olympics- You can write anything you like about the Olympics. Check out the example below.
8
Maths
FOCUS: Mapping and Location Warm Up: Can you make it from one robot to another using coding? https://www.mathplayground.com/code_builder.html Task: Gingerbread Coding Complete the following activity at the end of the planner and stick it in your workbook. Use the template at the end of the planner (page 13) to write and draw about the things in your life that are good. Write about what makes you excited and what the best thing that happened in your day. Use your best handwriting and draw beautiful pictures to match your thoughts.
10
Day 3 Phonics Task: Which one is which?
Day 3 Writing: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane Passage
Day 4 Writing Example: A chicken emerging from the egg.
11
I keep tap, tap, tapping on the hard shell that encloses me. I have been cramped here for days now and I know the time is right for me to enter the world but it’s not that easy. The shell is so hard and brittle and the tapping with my egg tooth seems to make no difference to the hard shell. Finally after what seems like hours my beak penetrates the shell and I feel the air on my little beak. Although I’m exhausted I know I need to keep tapping away at the growing hole. I can actually see the outside world. It’s scary but also exciting.
Day 5 Writing Example: Roll a Sentence.
This is what I rolled. 1, 4, 6, 3, 3, 6, 2, 4, 1, 6.
The Olympics
Wow! What an incredible experience. To watch these olympians is great. They are amazing! Parents watching on. Amazed at what they have achieved. The swimmers? Where have they been? Determination. The way they performed was inspirational.
