BE A MAN … is the motto of Xavier High School, summing up the educational mission of

our school. This motto, often extended to, “Be a man. A man like Christ,” is central to our

philosophy, and is reflected in how we work with students to realize maturity and the dignity

of the human spirit. To achieve this goal we guide all students in educational and vocational

needs, helping them prepare for college, for work, and above all, for life itself.

Our philosophy is based upon the following goals:

• Toeducatethewholeperson,spirit,mindandbodywithinaChristianframework

• Toexposestudentstovariousculturesinourdiverseglobalcommunity

as a Catholic college preparatory school sponsored by the Xaverian brothers

and the Diocese of norwich, Xavier High School fosters the spiritual,

academic, and physical growth of its students and challenges them to use their

God-given talents in service to others so that each Xavier graduate is fully

prepared to respond to the Christian call of our school motto, “be a man.”

XBe Spiritually Alive

Sharing in the educational ministry of the Catholic Church, Xavier assumes the three-fold

task of proclaiming the Christian message, of fostering the experience of community,

and of providing opportunities for service to the community within and outside of

school. Students are encouraged to develop their talents not only for themselves but also for

the good of others. Since the early 1970s, the school has researched and established numerous

opportunities for students to become involved in service to the community. The school

recognizes that the personal growth and maturation which normally stem from such learning

experiences are an integral ingredient in the formation of well-rounded individuals.

One of Xavier’s objectives is to educate the whole person, spirit, mind and body

within a framework of Christian values. Students are encouraged to develop

problem-solving skills and to be technologically aware in order to meet the

challenges of the future. They also study various cultures within our diverse global community

to become sensitive to the needs of all human beings. Xavier instills in each student a sense of

responsibility for using his God-given talents and gifts to the best of his ability.

Headmaster brother brian Davis, C.F.X. and Principal mr. brendan Donohue

recently announced updates to Xavier High School’s participation in The

University of Connecticut’s early College experience Program. mr. Donohue

said “i am thrilled that Xavier High School has expanded its participation in

UConn’s early College experience program. it is a great opportunity for our

students.” Xavier now has over 120 students enrolled in the program and the UConn credits

earned are transferable to many other colleges and universities.

in 2008-2009 Xavier High School offered a total of 3 UConn credits to our students. as of

2011-2012, we now offer 23 credits. Guidance Counselor mr. mark Lambert is Xavier’s eCe site

representative.

UConn early College experience (eCe) is a concurrent enrollment program that allows

motivated high school students to take UConn courses at their high schools for both high

school and college credit. every course taken through UConn eCe is equivalent to the same

course at the University of Connecticut. Students benefit by taking college courses in a warm

setting that is both familiar and conducive to learning.

High school instructors who have been certified through the University of Connecticut serve as

adjunct faculty members and teach UConn eCe courses.

The Fine arts Department at Xavier sees the student’s natural creativity as a valuable

God-given gift. Our purpose is to help the student develop existing talents and

uncover new ones. We wish to encourage originality, to instill confidence, and to

train in the fundamentals. We hope to inspire our advanced artists, musicians, or performers

to think critically, independently, and to find their own individual style.

Students from each of the three following disciplines

have received numerous awards, scholarships, state and

national recognition as a result of their study of Fine arts

at Xavier High School.

Xavier has remained a traditional

wear dress shirts and ties in the

This fosters critical thinking, learning and

“Going to Xavier, to this day, was the best

choice I have ever made. The school days

became more than just an eight to three day;

humility, trust, zeal, compassion, and simplicity.

Sixty lay men and women join with our Xaverian brothers to bring a comprehensive breadth

Xavier offers extensive guidance to students from their first days at Xavier to graduation and

beyond. Upon admittance each student is assigned a guidance counselor who works with him

during all four years to ensure he gets the best fit of classes. Our highly professional and well-

connected guidance staff works to ensure that each student takes the appropriate tests and

courses to meet college prerequisites and deadlines.

parental registration, a $500 non-refundable registration fee is due to secure a class position.

tr Ans fer s tud ents

Students wishing to transfer into Xavier High School are asked to call 860-346-7735 ext. 702
