The short term has made us think differently about the timing of exams, and the necessity of using each moment productively has become extremely important. As Estee Lauder said when pursuing her dream of what became a large impressive business: "When I thought I couldn't go on, I forced myself to keep going. My success is based on persistence, not luck. " Girls often give up before they have pushed through the barrier. We urge all our girls, encouraged by their parents, to put their shoulders to the wheel and spend every moment of this term productively. In this way, they will be able to enjoy that long holiday, knowing that they have conquered the first half of the year and that they are well placed to easily manage the work for the rest of the year. We wish all our learners results which accurately reflect the effort they have put into this first semester. While writing these exams, remember: Good food, enough sleep, less time for cell phones and TV, and a well-planned study programme are the key ingredients for success. Warm regards Shirley Harding PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents

A very short term such as this one, may lead some learners to rely on “Lady Luck” to help them manage the rigours of the term. The thought of a long holiday fills learners and staff with glee but probably, for parents, it creates thoughts of possibly being a stressful period!

The short term has made us think differently about the timing of exams, and the necessity of using each moment productively has become extremely important. The early exams give us more time to teach after exams, and it is, therefore, absolutely essential that your daughters attend school every day right until the end of the term.

Although there is a great deal of work to complete this term, with hard, consistent work we are confident that the peculiar structure of the school year will not negatively impact on the learners. Learners will possibly feel that they are pressurized and perhaps feel they cannot manage. However, success is not achieved through little work. As Estee Lauder said when pursuing her dream of what became a large impressive business:"When I thought I couldn't go on, I forced myself to keep going. My success is based on persistence, not luck. "

Girls often give up before they have pushed through the barrier.

Warm regards

GEOGRAPHY OUTING: GRADES 10 & 11 Grade 11 Geography girls hanging out in Hout Bay!

Table Mountain provides the perfect back- drop for the Grade 10

Geography girls.

ENVIRO CLUB

On 20 and 21 March, members of the Enviro Club helped out, as usual, at the Kirstenbosch annual plant sale. Ready with aprons, clipboards and pens, the efficient workers made the work of the cashiers so much easier and quicker. A few hours work ensured that the girls had a good time and many shoppers had an enjoyable experience.

Nicola Stuart and Dominique Battle took part in the Kontiki, a Scout Raft-building competition. 23 teams took part. Once the raft is built, the team are allowed no

contact with land for 24 hours. Nicola’s team finished 6th while Dominique’s tied in 1st place for best theme dress and best scouting spirit. Dominique was also selected to represent the Scouts Association at the Youth Forum of the Presidents Award - an honour indeed!

WYNBERG GIRLS' HIGH EISTEDDFOD

BREAD TAG DRIVE Last term an astonishing 27940g of bread tags was collected by the Service Pillar. Congratulations to Cavanagh who came first, and especially to tutor group CP which collected 4654g all on their own! This drive has been extended - finishing on Monday 7 June.

On 11 March, the Grade 11 Geography class went on an outing to Hout Bay. The outing is part of the economic curriculum. At the Snoekies factory, a guide showed us around the harbour and explained how the fishing industry functions and what impact the economy has had on the factory and on fishing in general. The boat ride to Seal Island which followed was the highlight of the outing. The sea was not too rough and everyone managed to complete their worksheets and enjoy the wonderful view.On 18 March, the grade 10 Geography classes went on an excursion. We looked at the geo-morphology of the northern peninsula, especially Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill. Our stops included Green Point, Sea Point, Camps Bay and Hout Bay. The highlight of the trip was Camps Bay beach where we had some free time to complete the worksheets. The outing was enjoyed by everyone. E Hill

WP SQUASH OPEN

Lizl Everts and Morghanne Bullough competed in the U16 and U19 age groups respectively. Morghanne came 15th in her section while Lizl did very well to win through to the final which she lost 2-3 in a very close match.

HOCKEY

The 1st hockey team started the season with a good win over Pinelands. The goals were scored by Lizl Everts and Belinda Plaatjies. The team also defended well and deserved this win.

The Wynberg U14A hockey team played against an U15 touring team from Langley in the UK. It was a fantastic start to the season for our girls, many of our whom had never played on Astroturf. This was also their first outing as a squad. Although they did not win the match, they gained valuable experience for the hockey season which should help them with the league ahead.

Wynberg’s U14A’s against Langley’s U15’s - great startto the season!
