If you can not attend please give Mike a call and let him know your availability so your name came be put onthe Diaconate schedule.
CENTENNIAL SIGNIFICAHere is last month's question: "Can you name the two current members of Wright
Church who served as members of the Idaho State Senate?" Answer: Rev. Mike Black,(1976-80), while living in Craigmont in North Central Idaho and Lynn Tominaga (1984-91), when he lived near Paul, in South Central Idaho.
A couple of other curious coincidences from that period of time: Mike first metLynn in the late 1970's when Lynn was Student Body President at the University of Idahoand was lobbying legislature on behalf of Idaho's college students. And, when Mike andhis young family moved to Boise in January of 1977 for three months during the legislativesession, they rented a house from a couple who were wintering in Arizona: Guess who:
Ken & Ethel Farnsworth!
A Thought Process!
A prayer is not a "spare Wheel" that you pullout when in trouble, but a "steering wheel"
that directs the right path throughout.
Do you know why a car'swindshield is so large and the rearview mir-ror is so small? Because our past is not asimportant as our future. Look ahead and
move on.
Friendship is like a book. It takes a few sec-onds to burn, but it takes years to write.
All things in life are temporary. If things aregoing well, enjoy it, they will not last forever.Ifthings are going wrong, don't worry, they
can't last long either.

Stewardship News FlashRekindle the gift of God that is within you ... 2 Timothy 1:6
From Carl Van Slyke
The start of a new program year is a good time to take Paul's advice and "rekindle" allthe gifts of God within not just individual Christians, but the church as a whole. Stokethe fire, is what the word means, take the small flames and find ways to add a littletinder here or a little air there and bring warmth and light. To make a fire strong usuallyrequires adding small things regularly, and sometimes large pieces of wood as otherlarge pieces burn away.
Indeed we have been "rekindling" the financial well being of Wright CongregationalChurch the past month. Some large pieces of wood have been added. Since myStewardship thought of August 22,2010 our Sunday offerings have been $2112.90 forAugust 22. This is more than the $1575 that I said we needed to pay the August billsand does not include the offering for August 29. In addition we have received over$2000.00 in special "over and above" gifts to the general fund and some in-kind gifts aswell. Thank you to all who have made this possible. This has laid a good foundationfor the new program year.
What does our Church need to really catch fire this September? What gifts, small orlarge, do you have to contribute to that fire? Are there people around you who have giftsto give that need your encouragement to step up to the fire? Sometimes, as the oldchurch camp song says, it really does "only take a spark." Is that spark you?
CHRISTMAS IN AUGUSTBy Jim Morrow, Mission And Outreach Chair
Our 2010 Christmas In August was a huge success! We collected a pickup truckload of badly needed supplies-thanks to your generosity-and on Monday, August 16,Ronna Sundell and I delivered them to the Interfaith Sanctuary. While we were there, wegot a tour of the facility, and got to see some of the work that they do. The building was alittle smaller, and much more crowded, than I expected, but it was clean and orderly andthe children's play room was actually very nice.
The Sanctuary is the only shelter in Boise that accepts people under the influence ofalcohol or drugs, and in so doing they provide a much-needed service for our community. In spite of the challenges caused by not turning anyone away, they do a great job ofkeeping all of their residents (which includes families with kids) safe, fed, and warm. Thereis no way I can adequately convey how much the people at Interfaith appreciated oursupport.
The Interfaith Sanctuary is supported by 28 organizations representing at least tenChristian denominations and several other faith traditions. Although the Sanctuary hassome paid employees, it largely operates on volunteer labor. You can find out aboutvolunteer opportunities at [email protected]. But, be careful:Volunteering at Interfaith could become addictive!

The church is cool and comfortable thanks to our new airconditioner. The lawn is looking better now that the sprinkler system hasbeen repaired. And finally, we are not being flooded due to a major leakypipe that has been repaired. You may have read about these unexpectedexpenses in last month's Wright Ups, all of which have taken a toll on ourbudget. I am sure you don't enjoy hearing this bad news, and believe meI hate bringing this message to you even more. If I had been asked, Iwould have suggested we wait on the air conditioner and try to sweat itout of you.
As I struggled over this message and tried to find inspiration foryou and me, I reviewed other similar messages I have brought to you inthe past. I thought about the reasons this church means so much to meand my family and to you - all of which you have heard - truth be toldprobably more than once, but the best inspiration comes from the bible.
Acts 11:29 - Every man determined to give according to his abilityand from Mark 12:41-44 - There is the familiar story of the widow whowas commended for giving all she had, even though it was a relativelysmall amount. God is impressed, not by the size of our gift, but by thedegree of our sacrifice. The gospel does not require us to give all wehave, but it does require sacrifice.
We should give enough that we feel the effect because we aresacrificing things of real value to us. Are there things that you reallywould like to have, and you could have afforded them were it not for thefact that you gave the money to the church? Does our giving to God showsacrifice for Him as He sacrificed for us?
I understand that everyone is struggling financially in these terrible
economic times, and your church is also and it desperately needs your
help now. Your generous gifts to the church in the past are greatly
appreciated but a special gift to the General Fund above and bevond vourpledge at this time would help the church's financial position a greatdeal.
Proverbs 3:9 Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from
righteous labors] with the first fruits of all your income.
Over the past 100 years, previous congregations of Wright Church,
during WWII and the depression, sacrificed and gave in order that you andI could have a church to worship in, congregate in fellowship, and helpothers in our community, and so we must do the same for future
congregations so they too will have the same cool, green lawned, leak
free church to worship in.
I would ask each of you to give thoughtful and prayerfulconsideration to this request for an additional gift to the church's generalfund.. There are over 250 references in the Bible that talk about giving tothe Lord and his works and I would conclude with this one from Acts 20:
12 In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by workingdiligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful ofthe words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed
(makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive.

Notes From The Board
The Lord will provide in abundance. The Lord willprovide our needs. In the midst of summer it is easy tounderstand abundance. Gardens are awash in vegetables, fruittrees are drooping with goodness. Knowing God will pi~ovide,we conducted the business of our Church.
We have faith the needs our Church will be met. As youknow, these have been difficult financial times. We arefortunate that our Church had reserves to carry us. We havebeen careful in the use our Church resources, and have neededto use our reserves to meet the daily needs of the Church. Weask you share of yOUi'abundance and give of your abundanceto help with the expense of Church operations. Please consideran extra monetary gift to the Church. The Board promises tobe good stewards of your gifts.
We are helping 6 of the young men and women of ourChurch attend college this fall. You can be proud that in ourown way each member of our Church has influenced these fineyoung people.
We hope you have enjoyed our beautiful Idaho summer. As summer comes to a close, we welcome the fall. With fallcomes our new Sunday School Year, our Choir- will sing again, and we will all be inspired by the change of season.
Thank you for being a part of Wright Church. Thank youfor caring about our Church.
Respectfully Submitted,Will Patterson
