World Help's 2011 Annual Report World Help is a faith-based humanitarian organization that exists to serve the physical and spiritual needs of people in impoverished communities around the world. World Help was born out of a sincere desire to help those in need . . . not only spiritually, but physically. Founded in 1991, World Help began providing God’s Word to the spiritually starved nations of Eastern Europe. Today, World Help has touched over 75 million lives in 64 countries, offering both physical and spiritual restoration for individuals, families, and communities.

From the most remote villages in Guatemala to the refugee camps in the Horn of Africa, World Help made a difference in 2011 that will outlive us and last for eternity. As we celebrated our 20th year as an organization, we also celebrated the triumphs of 2011—our most successful year yet.

World Help supporters impacted 9 million lives around the world last year. I’m proud to share the results of our partnership with you.

Each one of us has the potential to look away, to guard our time or our resources . . . to make excuses. But today, millions are leading healthy lives because you have chosen to acknowledge their pain and suffering.

World Help has compiled this comprehensive annual report to show how valuable your commitment is and what it yields. You deserve to know the difference you’re making.

As you read this report, I hope you can clearly see what your partnership means in the lives of others.

Help for today . . . hope for tomorrow. It’s what we do. It’s what we believe in. It’s what we promise. And it’s what we invite people to be a part of.

Thank you for joining us in changing lives.

Child SponSorShip sponsorship for a child means a life full of potential. The devastation of poverty doesn’t just affect children physically— it defines their futures. In 2011, more than 15,000 children were impacted through our Child sponsorship Program. Faithful donors allowed us to provide simple nutrition, medical attention, and education to make the difference between a life of poverty and a life of potential.

Kibera Slum SchoolJust outside of Nairobi, Kenya, there are 2 million people living within a two-mile radius overrun with crime, disease, and death—the Kibera slum. In 2011, World Help began partnering with a small elementary school in the epicenter of this pain-besieged community. Amid the desperation of poverty, 50 children at the Kibera slum school are building toward success because of sponsorship.

hUMAniTAriAn AidHumanitarian aid is more than just immediate physical provision for poverty-stricken countries. World Help views it as a prerequisite for development and permanent health and believes it lays the groundwork for our legacy: providing help for today and hope for tomorrow.

World Help’s humanitarian aid program met the needs of 5.9 million people in 2011. It was our largest year of return with a yield of more than $92 million through direct donations and gifts-in-kind. We sent dozens of containers packed full of life-saving medical supplies, nutrition supplements, clothing, and other developmental resources directly to our national partners around the world. Our feeding programs also provided necessary meals for 300,000 people every day.

Last year, we saw the distribution of thousands of packets of Nutributter, cancer medications, prescriptions, preventative medicines, medical equipment, and hundreds of strategic gifts-in-kind—all meeting immediate needs; all changing somebody’s tomorrow. In addition to humanitarian aid shipments, World Help provided immediate provision through our Crisis Response Program, particularly during the Horn of Africa famine and the aftermath of the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami.

ChildrEn oF ThE WorldOur Children of the World International Children’s Choir raises awareness of the plight of their peers back home— orphaned and disadvantaged children living in poverty. Though young, these children serve as ambassadors of hope.

In 2011, the choir’s objective was to bring attention to the World Water Crisis and its toll on impoverished children. They traveled extensively, performing at 285 churches and venues . . . and their message was contagious, as thousands of people committed to help provide clean-water projects around the world.

Children dream AwardsDuring their 2011 tour, Children of the World had the distinguished opportunity to perform at the Children Dream Awards in Los Angeles. This awards ceremony recognizes exemplary children across the nation and was seen by thousands when it was aired on national television.

“New believers are increasing day by day. God has opened the door of ministry and has given us the opportunity to share His Word.

He is doing miracles in people’s lives.”

— TIMOTHY

World Help equips nationals with the resources they need to not only carry the Gospel into the least-reached areas, but to make sure there is continual spiritual development.

We believe that partnering with national believers is one of the most effective ways to share the Gospel. By investing in local church planters and Christian leaders, we surpass cultural and language barriers and can begin to work immediately. Last year, we established 15,942 new churches . . . impacting 1.6 million people throughout spiritually persecuted nations.

nepal Church plantingTimothy is one of hundreds of World Help-supported church planters pioneering to develop Christian networks throughout the world. He works with others to bring the Gospel to remote regions in Nepal . . . ministering to poor communities, sherpas, Buddhist priests, and migrated Tibetan tribes.

causelifecauselife is a clean-water initiative that works to bring awareness to the World Water Crisis, while campaigning to provide wells to those without access to safe drinking water. Our clean-water advocates were busy last year putting on fundraisers of all shapes and sizes. By the end of 2011, they had raised funds for 169 new water projects that will impact 155,000 people in Guatemala, India, Nepal, Zambia, uganda, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Haiti, and Kenya.

Gannatola, indiaBefore the villagers of Gannatola had a well of their own, they trekked to a canal several miles away to wash clothes, bathe, and collect drinking water that was polluted by local livestock. They were always sick. But causelife intervened. We built a well for the village of 300, and the community is the healthiest it’s ever been.

BiBlE diSTriBUTionFor believers around the world, Bibles are a resource many never dream of having. Yet in the poorest and most persecuted countries, millions of Christians have hope through the gift of the Word of God—a gift they can share with their families and communities. World Help donors gave funds to distribute 310,988 Bibles and New Testaments in 2011, impacting 1.4 million people in China, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, and many other countries.

Bibles for EgyptThe 2011 revolution for democracy in Egypt opened doors for more than just political change. It brought shifting cultural norms and a new spiritual openness that World Help knew must be capitalized on. To do that, we distributed thousands of Arabic Bibles throughout Egypt during the country’s most desperate hour.

opErATion BABY rESCUEIn November 2011, World Help began Operation Baby Rescue, an initiative that is changing the future for thousands of children in Guatemala. By the end of the year, we wanted to save and heal 100 babies. Once again, our donors went beyond our expectations and gave to fund the rescue of 150 dying children.

soon after, we received stories of children like Diego Alexander whose lives had been transformed through Operation Baby Rescue. Before he was saved by the rescue team, Diego Alexander was waiting to die. Malnutrition had ravaged his body to the point of death, but Operation Baby Rescue intervened just in time.

Fox news interviewOur President Vernon Brewer and Vice President Noel Brewer Yeatts appeared on Fox News to share the plight of malnourished children in Guatemala with thousands of viewers nationwide. The channel aired clips from our Operation Baby Rescue documentary and moved spectators across the country to action.

SoCiAl MEdiAsocial mediums have been pivotal for World Help’s efforts around the world. We believe that by providing accessible resources through social media outlets, we give our supporters an easy and strategic platform to share their passions with family and friends. And because of that, we work hard to put these kinds of resources into their hands.

Last year, World Help began using an online fundraising website that allows our supporters to advocate by personalizing their own campaigns and sharing them through social media. More than 180 campaigns were started and by year’s end, over $70,000 was raised.

SEASon oF hopEChristmastime is a season when our donors celebrate by giving Gifts of Hope and by packing Christmas for an Orphan gift boxes for children in need.

Last year, we saw the largest response yet from our Gifts of Hope program, with investments made in the spiritual, physical, and emotional development of thousands. Our donors were excited to make a difference in 2011—in fact, the response to Gifts of Hope almost doubled from the previous year. In addition to this, thousands of Christmas for an Orphan boxes were stuffed with toys, hygiene products, simple children’s medicines, and more . . . giving joy to children around the world.

Chickens for ChristmasInstead of thinking about what they would get for Christmas, stone and Claire Wildey decided to give a gift that would impact lives. Their goal was to raise enough money for a pair of chickens and to do it by baking and selling bread for the holidays. At the end of their fundraising, they had collected $123—enough for chickens, fruit seeds, and a portion of a clean-water well through Gifts of Hope.

ovErFloW ToUrDuring their travels last year, Children of the World posed the possibilities that result when we give out of our abundance. Their 2011 concert series was deemed the “Overflow” Tour, and their audiences responded by doing just that. The overflow of resources given to stop the World Water Crisis was incredible—enough to provide clean water to tens of thousands of people in some of the world’s neediest countries.

dean-hill FamilyWhen Jake and Jenn Dean-Hill and their children were first exposed to the World Water Crisis through Children of the World, they knew they had to act. They began planning and decided to give through their overflow. Any extra money earned was put into an “H20 jar.” soon they had enough for a well . . . two wells . . . soon to be three wells, and today, their efforts are overflowing into the lives of others.

horn oF AFriCA CriSiS rEliEFIn 2011, World Help and its advocates intervened in the “greatest humanitarian crisis of our time”—the Horn of Africa famine. When 30,000 children died from malnutrition and the crisis was still absent from popular media outlets, we knew something urgent had to be done. We began a campaign that showed just what passionate people are capable of. Our goal was big—to raise $120,000 to ship 20 humanitarian aid containers to the Horn. But the ambition of our supporters and advocates was bigger. Together, we raised funds to ship 32 containers of aid resources during one of the year’s most urgent moments.

Fundraising platformDuring the peak of the Horn of Africa crisis, one advocate, Bill Murray, used his fundraising platform to share his passion and invite people to get involved. The results were astounding—more than $16,000 raised to ship humanitarian supplies!

World Help is dedicated to making sure our donors understand how important they are to bringing help and restoring hope . . . yet we are consistently inspired by the donors themselves. They give out of full hearts with sincere compassion. And we couldn’t be more honored that they choose to invest in lives through our programs. Whether making an ongoing pledge or giving to meet a specific need, their partnership with World Help is making a difference that reaches into the very future.

dr. richard laneHe’s more than a doctor . . . he transforms lives. While Dr. Lane’s profession is providing medical care for others, he works on his own time to bring healing to the hopeless. When he and his wife, Cindy, heard about and saw the dire need of malnourished children in Guatemala, they decided to provide funds to rescue six babies through Operation Baby Rescue.

Janelle langWhen Janelle traveled to Rwanda for the first time, she befriended several widows she met there. she saw how hard they worked and the stress it had on their bodies. Through Gifts of Hope, she bought bicycles to help these women carry their goods from the market, saving them from long hours of walking and the tiring weight of their merchandise.

Page 16: World Help's 2011 Annual Report

FUndrAiSErSOur fundraisers are diverse in their campaigning, and World Help never ceases to be amazed at their ingenuity. These visionaries give of their time and resources to advocate for World Help . . . to advocate for people living in desperation.

Carlos BritoWhile he was on active duty in the united states Air Force serving as a chaplain, Carlos learned about the situation in the Horn of Africa and knew he had to do something immediately. unable to physically campaign, Carlos launched an online fundraising page through World Help and began to spread the word. Family, friends, coworkers, and peers responded to his plea for help and soon he had raised nearly $2,000 to help end the crisis in the Horn.

volUnTEErSEvery great vision succeeds on the efforts of those who are willing to make it work, and World Help thrives for that reason. We are honored to work with dedicated volunteers who give hours of their time to make the World Help dream a reality. From filing papers to providing housing for the Children of the World, our volunteers are involved in so many details of behind-the-scenes production.

Trip pArTiCipAnTSWhen our supporters return from international trips, they are changed, enlightened, and impassioned. These participants are important advocates for World Help. They have seen the needs of impoverished communities with their own eyes and know they can meet those needs by encouraging others to step in and get involved.

Kendra WoodOn a World Help-sponsored trip to Rwanda, Kendra witnessed firsthand the aftermath of the genocide. she ministered to widows and orphans and recognized the healing that World Help programs were making for the still hurting people of Rwanda. In the midst of abiding pain and bitterness, she knew there were resources available to restore the broken nation . . . and she returned home excited to share how.

vickie vazquezBefore she even came to World Help, Vickie was a part of the vision through child sponsorship. Years after beginning her support, she became a volunteer in the Child sponsorship Department as a translator. Because she knows what it feels like to sponsor a child, she works joyfully to bring that opportunity to others.

STAFFWorld Help functions on an intimate level through the efforts of energetic and passionate staff members. They not only care for the details, but are committed on a personal basis—closely involved in raising awareness and campaigning for change. Each staff member is invaluable to the World Help vision.

Amanda donawhoWhen our staff was first developing Operation Baby Rescue, Amanda, a project administrator, was already strategizing about how she could involve her family and friends in restoring hope to Guatemalan children and their families. she threw aside any doubt she had and began working wholeheartedly to help rescue as many children as she could. Her efforts yielded $10,400—enough to rescue eight precious babies. staff members like Amanda are so much a part of how we accomplish our mission.

inTErnATionAl pArTnErSWe work with over 100 international partners that care for the implementation and the painstaking details of the physical follow-through of every project. However, not only are they administrators and overseers, but heroes in the faith. Headmasters, national Christian leaders, persecuted pastors, businessmen—World Help works with people that have all been tested by extreme circumstances. Each one has been proven capable of handling great responsibility, yet remains dependent on God’s sovereign provision.

20Th AnnivErSArY Twenty years ago, World Help was simply a family of people willing to do whatever it took to change lives. Today, our methods are the same—work to bring transformation—but our production is far more than what we could have imagined. The tireless devotion of our supporters, staff, and countless others has kept our vision fresh . . . and daring. And as always, the ever-present needs of others are what fuel our passion to grow.

Twenty years of work and partnership have made a difference in more than 76 million lives. World Help could never adequately thank those directly involved, except to invest our gratitude into the lives of millions more.

MilestoneAs we celebrated 20 years, we looked to the future and strategized to make the next 20 years the most powerful, influential, and impactful years yet. Children, mothers, university students, persecuted believers, victims of war, impoverished communities, broken families—there is hope for all of them. And we won’t stop until they grasp it, taste it, see it, and live it for themselves.

To do this, we’re going to have to perform at our best, and that starts with the daily fundamentals of what we do. Along with all of its accomplishments, 2011 marked the beginning of an organization-wide rebranding process for World Help. Through this development, we will better serve you through more efficient means of communication, refocused goals, and a more coherent vision as a whole. Through it all, our values and dedication to bring help and hope remain the same.

FinAnCiAlS inTrodUCTionIn 2011, World Help saw remarkable growth in both cash donations and gifts-in-kind—significantly increasing our yield in just one year! As a result, we have been able to impact more lives and work more efficiently. We know this was only possible through generous supporters. We want to celebrate this by taking a moment to break down how these investments were used to provide help and hope to people around the world. We are passionate about our mission and are dedicated to maintaining our integrity as we pursue it. Every financial move we make is founded on this core principle: “Always doing the right thing, total transparency, and sharing the results of the impact we make.”

Because of this commitment, we submit ourselves to annual review by an independent auditor as well as several independent, nonprofit financial watch groups. ABoUT US World Help has laid a solid groundwork for conduct by establishing principles that our leadership, staff, and national partners abide by. As well as facilitating efficient and ethical work, these values uphold the dignity of those we help while encouraging continued development. Our commitment to these foundational convictions has made World Help’s operational success what it is today. our principles

our ApproachWhile we work with integrity, we are passionate about keeping our ultimate goal in mind: improving the lives of others. To do that, we have created guidelines designed to help us make the greatest impact possible. They are at the heart of everything we do: Where we provide help, we leave a legacy of hope.

help for TodayWe care for people: We provide the basic necessities of food, clothing, and educational opportunities for men, women, and children. We train for tomorrow: We provide people with vocational training that teaches them the skills they need to support themselves. We ensure access to clean water: We provide clean and safe drinking water where access doesn’t currently exist. We provide medical aid: We provide medical supplies to communities and clinics. We respond in crisis: When called upon, we provide food, shelter, blankets, water, and other supplies for victims of disaster to rebuild.

hope for TomorrowWe share the Good News: We share God’s Word with people that need it most.We build church communities: We help people build churches and church communities in unreached areas of the world.
