EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS AT THE HEART OF OUR MISSIONEducation is one of the fundamental principles of the cooperative model, which is central to our mission. It is with this in mind that Desjardins placed stay-in-school initiatives and academic success front and centre during the 2016 edition of Cooperation Week.

More than 7,000 Desjardins employees and officers took part in 420 activities across Quebec and Ontario, raising $1.8 million for the cause.

On November 8, 2016, the caisse held a special event, THE FUTURE SMILES evening, during which $10,000 in scholarships was awarded to vocational, college and university students. About one hundred young members of the caisse gathered at Théâtre Desjardins in LaSalle for a chance to win one of the

10 scholarships. In addition to meeting caisse Youth Advisor, Stéphanie Alain-Trudel, participants were treated to a performance by comedian Jay Du Temple. A special evening for an exceptional audience!

A young member of the caisse and undergraduate in accounting, Saira Zepeda Chinchilla, was awarded a scholarship of $1,500 for her academic perseverance and commitment to the community.

DESJARDINS FOUNDATION In addition to granting scholarships to enable young people to continue their studies, the Foundation supports a number of programs and organizations that encourage kids to stay in school, such as Éducaide, Persévéra and the Mon enfant, son avenir guides.

Kids, their parents and teachers also have access to caisse educational content and games at www.schoolcaisse.com.

Through its Personal Finance: I’m in Charge educational program, Desjardins provides guidance to young adults during a phase in their lives when they have to make many financial decisions for the first time. One of the goals of this educational program is to help them become responsible consumers by preparing them to make informed financial decisions and the right choices. Approximately 100 young people from Cavelier-De LaSalle high school took part in this program.

TOGETHER, WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCEYour business relationship as a member of your caisse allows you to help improve your community and provides you with many advantages. They include comprehensive services, practical tools, exclusive offers and the opportunity to participate in the decisions of your caisse.
