Greetings from the Board of Directors. Your Board is currently working on remodeling the Hodges gate building. The construction is still several months away, and we will keep all residents aware of the progress. As spring and summer approach, the management staff will be turning their attention to lawns. We ask that all residents take a good look at their lawns and take whatever action is necessary to prevent the issuance of a violation letter. As we move into the second quarter of the year, the delin-quent amounts are slowly decreasing. The Board will continue to keep pressure on these delinquent accounts to bring them up to date. The Board will take all actions possible early on when a home owner falls behind. These actions include deleting bar codes at the gates, restricting access to the amenities (i.e. the pool), and turning these ac-counts over to a collection agency.

As the warmer weather approaches, there are more residents walking during hours of darkness. We ask that walkers take basic steps to make them-

selves more visible during these times. Wear light colored clothing or carry a light. Our streets are nar-row, so be careful out there.

There has been a serious problem with residents using the dumpster located on the community cen-ter parking lot. This container is for the use of resi-dents that rent the community center and not for general dumping. The management staff will at-tempt to locate the source of illegal dumping and fine those residents responsible. The community has to pay additional money to have this container dumped when full. Last week, we had a resident dump unwanted beds in the container. If you have items like this to be disposed of, contact the city at 630-CITY and they will arrange for a pickup.

The pool season is approaching; please make sure you have a key fob for entry into the pool. This is the only way we can have controlled access to the facilities. Everyone needs to review the pool rules before the pool opens (see page two of this news-letter).

From the Board of Directors

Congratulations to all the residents of The Woods, especially those who actively participated, for putting on yet another extremely successful Spring Community Garage Sale. More than 80 homes participated in the event with hundreds of excited bargain hunters making the circuit through the neighborhood to take advantage of so many great bargains! Congratulations also to the Women of The Woods for doing such a great job of organizing the event!

On March 19th at 7pm, Women of The Woods cele-brated Craft and Special Interest Night! We en-joyed the show-and-tell presentations of hobbies, interests, and crafts by our talented fellow WOW members. Among presentations were Madeline Osiecki (Needlework), Millie Landin (Sand Globes), Jean Merrill (Handmade Quilts), Jeannie Ballentine (One-of-a-kind Artist bears), and Carol Bernardis (WOW Book Club).

The Woods Spring Garage Sale sponsored by Women of The Woods was a huge success again this year! Although the weather was just on the cool side, more than 80 homes participated with a great turnout of buyers. The next sale will be in the fall.

April 16th at 7pm is Election Night. Any WOW members who wish to join the WOW Board for the 2015-2016 year will be nominated, and the group will vote on the new board. This is also Vendor Night, when WOW will feature The Woods Resi-dents who have businesses. It gives WOW mem-bers an opportunity to see what services and prod-ucts are available to us from our neighborhood businesses. We'll have a Springtime theme for the evening and will serve wine, beverages, and deli-cious snacks.

Women of The Woods meets on the third Thursday of each month in The Woods Clubhouse at 7pm. Annual dues are $15/person, payable by check or cash. If you have questions, please call Jeannie at 992-3848.

From the Women of The Woods

The 2015 Pool Season begins Saturday, April 18th. The Woods Community pool will be open each week Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm, and on Sunday from 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm. The pool will be CLOSED Mondays for maintenance (unless Monday falls on a holiday, in which case the pool will be open that day but closed the following day for maintenance). Please note the following:

Lifeguards will be on duty Saturdays & Sundays while school is in session.

“Swim at Your Own Risk” during scheduled periods when no lifeguard is on duty & the pool is open.

Once summer break is here, lifeguards will be on duty all day, every day.

Key fobs are a one-time fee of $25 & available at The Woods office.

The Pool Opens this Month!

Gardening Tips for April What to Plant Annuals: New varieties of coleus do well in sun or shade and provide vivid colors and patterns for months.

Bulbs: This is an ideal time to plant many bulbs. Consider blood lily, caladium, or canna. Louisiana iris and others make beautiful gardens.

Herbs: Plant heat-loving herbs, including basil, oregano, sage, Mexican tarragon, and rosemary.

Vegetables: Continue planting warm-season crops. Plant okra and cucumber. Mulch well to prevent weeds and provide irrigation if rainfall is lacking. What to Do Pests: Monitor landscape plants weekly for aphids on tender new growth.

Beneficials: Identify and conserve beneficial in-sects. Some insects should be encouraged in your yard!

Perennials and bulbs: Divide clumps of bulbs, orna-mental grasses, or herbaceous perennials to ex-pand or rejuvenate garden beds or to pass along to friends.

Lawn insects: Rule out cultural problems, such as lack of water, that mimic insect damage before ap-plying a pesticide.

Lawns: Apply fertilizer no sooner than mid-April af-ter new growth has started. Choose a fertilizer (not a “weed and feed”) with little or no phosphorus unless a soil test indicates the need for it. A fertil-izer with controlled-release nitrogen yields longer-lasting results.

Shrubs: Choose from a wide variety of shrubs to add to the landscape now.

Trees: Consider planting a spring-blooming tree, such as fringetree, Carolina Silverbell, or redbud.

Mulch: Add mulch to minimize weeds and conserve moisture during dry weather. Organic mulches add nutrients to the soil.

The Yard of the Month for April 2015 Congratulations to David and Cynthia Rose of 12901 The Woods Dr S for being selected as the April 2015 Yard of the Month! David told us they have been working hard to make their yard look nice and it has definitely paid off. Go by and take a look!

Recycling collection dates: April 1, 15, 29 and May 13, 27 Driving in The Woods: The speed limit in The Woods is 25 mph and STOP signs mean just that! Call the Gates: Be sure to advise the gate guard ahead of time when you are expecting visitors. Neighborhood Ponds: There are to be no boats, other watercraft, or swimming in any of the

neighborhood ponds. Fishing is permitted, however, anything that is caught must be released back into the pond. Also fishing may only be done in ponds that have common areas surround-ing them. It is not permitted to fish or gain access via a homeowner’s lot unless you are the homeowner of that lot or an invited guest of the homeowner.
