Subject may be human, animal, or combination of both 5. Stylized Carvings An inanimate form or a deliberate departure from realism for artistic purposes 6.  Waterfowl Birds such as mallards, swans, and geese 7. Birds Songbirds, shorebirds, birds of prey, and game birds 8. Relief A carving, usually on a flat surface that can only be appreciated from one side. Consists of modeled features raised or “relieved” from the background. 9. Chip Carving Geometric designs created by the removal of wedge shaped pieces of wood 10. Functional/Utilitarian Carved spoons, bowls, and useful items 11.  Walking Sticks and Canes 12. Furniture Carving on or for furniture or architectural pieces 13. Pyrography Woodburne d images on various media 14. Intarsia Images created from combinin g different  woods 15. Other Media Carvings created from other media such as soap, stone, and foam. 16. Miscellaneous Carvings that don’t exactly fit into any of the above categories. An assembled or group carving may fit here. 17. SWAP Carvings that are competing for swapping. R ULES FOR C OMPETITION 1.  You may enter work in only one division. 2.  You may enter up to three pieces in each category. 3.  The show committee has the right to not accept an entry if the carving is not in good taste. 4. Categories/divisio ns may be added or combined at the discretion of the show committee. 5. Carvings may not be removed prior to 4:00 pm on the day of the show. All carvings must be removed by 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 20st. 6.  Judges decisions are final. 7.  All entries will have an assigned number for judging purposes. Name cards, signatures, or business cards are not permitted until after the awards are given for the entire competition. 8. Entries are submitted at the sole risk of the entrant. The sponsors will not be responsible for any loss or damage resulting from any causes. Normal precautions will be taken to provide safety and security.  9. Carvings will be judged on the merit of their sculptural qualities only. This includes, but is not limited to: the technical difficulty, originality, skill, and cleanliness of execution of the work. Special consideration will not be made solely with respect to size and/or painted surfaces of the work. In other words, painted carvings will be judged along side of non-painted ones, unless there are enough painted carvings to create a separate category. 10. Carvings will not be accepted into the competition after 9:30 am on Saturday. 11.
