NOVICE Open to beginning woodcarvers who have beencarving for less than three years. 17 categories.
INTERMEDIATE Open to carvers of greater experienceand skill who may have won ribbons for their entries inother wood carving competitions. 17 categories.
OPEN Open to carvers who wish to compete in a muchhigher level of competition. 17 categories.
YOUTH Open to carvers of all skill levels who are no morethan 18 years of age. There are no categories in this division.

C ATEGORIES
1. Mammals Realistic non-human mammals (horses, bears,etc.)
2. Fish and Reptiles Realistic fresh and salt water fish, andreptiles such as snakes, lizards and toads
3. Human Figures and Busts Realistic human formsor parts
4. Caricatures A deliberate departure from realism forcomic effect. Subject may be human, animal, orcombination of both
5. Stylized Carvings An inanimate form or a deliberatedeparture from realism for artistic purposes
6. Waterfowl Birds such as mallards, swans, and geese
7. Birds Songbirds, shorebirds, birds of prey, andgame birds
8. Relief A carving, usually on a flat surface that can only be appreciated from one side. Consists of modeledfeatures raised or “relieved” from the background.
9. Chip Carving Geometric designs created by the removalof wedge shaped pieces of wood
10. Functional/UtilitarianCarved spoons, bowls, anduseful items
11. Walking Sticks and Canes
12. Furniture Carving on or for furniture or architecturalpieces
13. Pyrography Woodburned images on various media
14. Intarsia Images created from combining different woods
15. Other Media Carvings created from other media such
as soap, stone, and foam.16. Miscellaneous Carvings that don’t exactly fit into any of
the above categories. An assembled or group carving may fit here.
17. SWAP Carvings that are competing for swapping.
RULES FOR COMPETITION
1. You may enter work in only one division.
2. You may enter up to three pieces in each category.
3. The show committee has the right to not accept an entry
if the carving is not in good taste.4. Categories/divisions may be added or combined at the
discretion of the show committee.
5. Carvings may not be removed prior to 4:00 pm on theday of the show. All carvings must be removed by 6:00pm on Saturday, March 20st.
6. Judges decisions are final.
7. All entries will have an assigned number for judging purposes. Name cards, signatures, or business cards arenot permitted until after the awards are given for theentire competition.
8. Entries are submitted at the sole risk of the entrant. Thesponsors will not be responsible for any loss or damageresulting from any causes. Normal precautions will betaken to provide safety and security.
9. Carvings will be judged on the merit of their sculpturalqualities only. This includes, but is not limited to: thetechnical difficulty, originality, skill, and cleanliness of execution of the work. Special consideration will not bemade solely with respect to size and/or painted surfacesof the work. In other words, painted carvings will bejudged along side of non-painted ones, unless there areenough painted carvings to create a separate category.
10. Carvings will not be accepted into the competition after9:30 am on Saturday.
11. Check-in times: Friday, Mar. 19 - 3:00 until 6:00 pm
Saturday, Mar. 20 - 7:30 until 9:30 am
