HOPE FOR STREETS

At a special meeting of the Boardof Directors of the Home Owners'it was announced that forfeitureaction would be taken within aweek on the bonds that had beenpostech. The meeting, held Wed-nesday night, January 13, hearda report by Directors Eldon Shauland Ted McKay, who had been inJoliet to discuss the streetproblem with the Will CountyStates Attorney and other Countyofficials. They said that theywere assured that the legal ac-tion required would be begun atonce (within a week) and thatthe moneys should be turned overto the County promptly so thatpaving of the unimproved streetsin Wood Hill could be done thisspring as soon as weather permits.

Thus, the long months of petit-ioning, letter writing and thefinal formal filing of a formalcomplaint seems to have paid.

In other action at the SpecialMeeting (to which we are to saythe press was invited) resigna-tions of two Directors were re-jected. Tom Walsh submitted hisresignation as he is being trans-fer ed to Turkey. Chuck Larsensubmitted his as he is runningfor Monee Township Clerk, and asit had been agreed by all Direc-tors at the time af their elept-ion last year that they wouldresign should they become act-

ive in Politics, he felt that heshould resign . However, theBoard felt that because withonly about a month of the termsto go, and with the need of theexperience of these two direct-ors, they were asked to completetheir terms. They'both agreed.

The special meeting also heardthat the Consumer Fraud Investi-gation begun by the AttorneyGeneral's office had been closed. However, at the special meetingit was decided that a Chairmanto head a Committee on ConsumerFraud should be organized. ThePresident appointed Richard Gil-bert of 727 Union Dr. to head theCommittee. "Testimony" aboutactivities that is thought to in-volve fraud was heard as two res-idents told of difficulties and"shannigans" they have exper-ienced. It was asked that otherresidents contact Mr. Gilbert at534-2226 with their problems tobuild additional evidence.

It is understood that one Direct-or will be resigning this month.Dean Grant, who was the one hold-over from the previous board hasresigned his previous job in Chi-cago and is moving to Tennessee.

The survey on Incorporation hasbeen printed and is scheduledfor distribution in Wood Hill onSaturday, January 23, 1965.

theCoJb DAVE COON

We think that the year 1965 canbe both a year of challenge andopportunity, that will see manychanges in Wood Hill.

It almost a certainty thatnew developers will move In.

The passage-of the recent schoolbond referendum would indicatethat we might see the purchaseof a school site near;here (theSchool Board has said that theylike our water and sewage system).

Wood Hill residents have showntheir interests in getting up totheir ears in politics. We cannow boast the Democratic PrecinctCommitteeman, and our "ear to theground" hears that several othersare giving thought to running foroffice.

In the less "violent" areas ofcommunity activity, many are act-ive in school and church—allaontributing their time to theadvancing of the good reputationof our community.

The opportunity to help our com-munity is here— and so is thechallenge. The present Board ofDirectors of the Home Owners"has made progress, but we believethat their ability to contributeto the solutions of Wood Hillproblems has been greatly re-stricted by the lack of supportfrom those who live here. Itis coming to be our opinion, too, that those who most greatly needthat assistance are the very oneswho have been most notable bythe lack of their support.

We think too, that the time hascome for all of us to realizethat "there ain't no Santy Glaus"Wood Hill must come to recognize

2

that Wood Hill must solve its ownproblems, must meet the chall-enges that face it, and can there-by make its own opportunities.

Elections for the various posi-tions in Township Offices arecoming up. They are to be heldon April 6th.

Nominations for these jobs willbe made on -̂ arty Caucus' to beheld by both Democrats and Re-publicans. The date, Time ofeach caucus is Feb. 2 at 8-;00pm.Democrats will meet at TalalaSchool, Republicans at Monee.

To date, we know of one fromWood Hill who is running for oneof the Township positions. Thisis Chuck Larsen, who seeks to benominated on the Republican tick-et as Town Clerk.

Chuck has been a member of theBoard of Directors of the WoodHill Home Owners, was most ac-tive in the recent national cam-pain / elections. He lives at805 Blackhawk, Wood Hill. He'and his wife Carol have livedthere since 1963 with their twosons. He is a Salesman for San-doz Pharmceuticals, an ethicaldrug house.

The recent 201-U School BoardBond Referendum passed. Somecredit has been given to WoodHill for the sucessful passingof the resolutions. Final totalvotes show 2211 votes cast, 1128Yes; 1064 No. In Monee 138 Yes;245 No; Spoiled 2. Crete had 16spoiled; 736 No; 570 Yes. Thevoting at Talala had 420 Yes;- 1spoiled, and only 83 No.

As part of the referendum, itwas decided that land should bepurchased in Monee Tirwnship forthe erection (eventually) of anew Junior High. It is thoughtthat the area will probably" beclose to Wood Hill. •

PIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS

Good news there have been nofire calls during the past month.

Tentative plans are being made tohold a circus or carnival duringJune. The Department promisesthat they will have "the works".There'll be a parade, water ballfights, games, acts, shows .

The annual fund drive will bestarted in early February, thetarget date is the 7th. And,here, may we add, that the a-mounts asked for, and contribut-ed are usually less than if theDepartment were incorporated in-to a Fire Protection District..

Also being thought about is an-other Fox Hunt. The one lastyear saw the foxeS outfoxing thehunters. Oertin die-hards saythat this year "we'll get 'em".
