Greetings, 4-H families!
Creative Arts Day will be here before you know it! Have you
invited friends and family to join us? This is a great FREE
family-friendly event that community members are sure to
enjoy! Share invitations on your social media pages and
through other organizational newsletters. Our 4-H youth are so
talented and Creative Arts Day is an excellent showcase for
those talents and skills.
Project Discovery Day was a huge success this year as well.
The event was held in a new, fantastic location and our 80
participants learned new skills, made great projects, and had
fun with friends. Project Discovery Day was planned and
organized by a partnership of youth and adults who did a
tremendous job.
Great opportunities like Creative Arts Day and Project Discovery
Day are made possible by volunteers who step up to serve on
planning committees. We owe a debt of gratitude to each
person serving on these committees. THANK YOU!
What means most to all of us who help plan opportunities is to
see youth and families participating in those activities. Creative
Arts Day isn’t about the trophies. Project Discovery Day isn’t
about the craft. These events are about hands-on learning, and
that is the greatest gift we can give our 4-H members. Don’t let
those gifts slip away!
See you at Creative Arts Day!

HELP WANTED: 4-H TECH CHANGEMAKERS
COMING TO WOOD COUNTY! If you love technology and are interested in new opportunities, then 4-H Tech Changemakers is for you. As
part of the program you will learn new technologies, get training in leadership and public speaking, and have
an opportunity to help others. Wood County 4-H will provide you with the tools and training needed to serve
as a digital ambassador in our community, teaching others how to make the most of broadband access and
digital technologies. This project is a component of the partnership between National 4-H Council and
Microsoft, which aims to close the connectivity gap in rural areas.
We are seeking teens to serve as tech teachers. Here are some of the skills and traits we seek:
Caring, compassionate individuals who are interested in serving their community.
Comfortable working with adults one-on-one and in a team.
Familiarity with technology devices and uses (i.e., email set-up, internet skills and safety, social
media, coding).
Ability and interest to help instruct adult community members – one-on-one and in small groups.
Time to work on the project (i.e., availability and coordination with other activities such as family,
sports, music or jobs).
Translation/interpreter skills, if needed.
Interest and ability to work on promotion materials, session planning, etc. (Not a requirement for
all youth).
Experience and comfort presenting in front of a group during workshops, community meetings,
etc. (not a requirement for all youth).
Youth do NOT need to be members of 4-H. Call or email Laura at 715-421-8439 or [email protected] to
sign up or for more information.
SHOOTING SPORTS UPDATES The first tournament of the season will be held at the Central Wisconsin Sportsmens Club on March 6-7. This
tournament includes archery (compound and recurve), air pistol, air rifle, .22 rifle, and .22 pistol
competitions. All youth currently participating in 4-H shooting sports are encouraged to participate. This
event will bring in youth from across the state! For registration information, visit: https://
fyi.extension.wisc.edu/wi4hshootingsports/events/6th-annual-winter-invitational-2/.
We are always looking for volunteers to help keep the Central Wisconsin 4-H Shooting Sports program
successful. All 4-H Shooting Sports leaders must be certified in the discipline they teach. They may be
certified in archery, coordinator, muzzleloader, pistol, rifle and shotgun disciplines.
The certification process has changed a bit. New for 2020: A National 4-H Shooting Sports online training has
replaced the Friday evening certification session. New leaders complete the online training prior to attending
the Saturday range training day. Leaders currently certified in one of the shooting sports disciplines do not
need to complete the online training.
Contact Laura at the Extension office for more information about becoming a certified shooting
sports leader.
