INTRODUCTION To accelerate over all growth and

prosperity of the nation, the government has been emphasizing the need for development of rural women and promotion of their participation in developmental programmes.

HEALTH AND NUTRITION INTEGRATED CHILD DEVELOPMENT

SCHEME:[ICDS] To improve nutrition&health status of

women particularly pregnant,lactating mothers and adolescent girls

To spread awareness to take care of their personal&household health and nutrition issues

To make “Tamilnadu malnutrition free”

KISHORI SHAKTI-YOJANA Orientation training camp programme

for adolescent girls Awereness campaign on

nutrition&healthLegal rights,home management and

child care Vocational training to adolescent girls It will be ensured that not less than

30%of overall participants belongs to sc/st categories

INCOME GENERATION SWA-SHAKTI PROJECT A project for women’s development

with assistance from international funds for agricultural development IFAD

To create empowerment of women through setting up of self-reliant women’s SHGs

To develop linkage between SHGs&lending institution to ensure continued access to credit facilities for income generation activity

JAWAHAR ROZGAR YOJAN -JRY This programme was started in the

year 1989 by rajivgandhi for generating employment for unemployed men and women in rural areas but 30%of opportunities for women

To create employment by strengthening the rural infrastructure

To create community and social assets Overall improvement in the quality of

life in rural areas

INDIRA MAHILA YOJANA -IMY It empower women by generating

awareness and helping them to achieve economic strength through income generation activities

It also facilitates service like literacy , health , non-formal education ,rural development ,water supply ,entrepreneurship .

The main aim to organize women at grass root level to facilitate their participation in decision-making and their empowerment

EDUCATION AND LITERACY CRADLE BABY SCHEME To counter the menace of female infanticide

in certain parts of tamilnadu, this scheme was launched by chief minister of tamilnadu in 1992

Under this scheme cradles were placed in important places such as hospitals , primary health centers orphanages and children homes in order to enable the rescue of female children abandoned by their parents to various social circumstances

GIRL CHILD PROTECTION SHEME To ensure that girl children are provided equal

footing in the society on par with male counterparts

This scheme is implemented to promoted family planning to eradicate female infanticide and to discourage preference for male child

For families with 1girl child and if the parents has undergone sterilization,an initial deposit of Rs22,200 will be made in the tamilnadu power finance corp, by government in the name of the child

SUPPORT TO TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME

To upgrade the skills of poor and assetless women mobilize, concentise and provide employment to them on sustainable basis

Training is given in agriculture , dairy farming handicrafts,handlooms,animalhusbandry,sericulture and fisheries

About 6.1lakh women have been covered under 133 projects launched in 19 states

CONCLUSION

Government is going to help women in every sphere of life in the society. At this stage, it becomes necessary that government agencies should also check that the benefits from these programmes reach only the deserving beneficiaries. The need of the hour is administrative reforms and bureaucratic reforms and total integration of women in the developmental plans and programmes.
