was developed by the North Carolina Department of

Health and Human Services/Division of Public

Health (DPH). This Directory was produced in

compliance with the “Women’s Right to Know”

Act, passed by the North Carolina General

Assembly in 2011.

In the North Carolina Women’s Right to Know

Resource Directory you will find listed by county,

resources that may provide you with the following

services during your pregnancy and for your

newborn baby:

Key to Agencies Listed

Below:

1. Local Health Departments provide a

wide range of services to communities.

Included are information and referrals,

pregnancy tests, prenatal care or

referrals, well-child check-ups and

developmental screening and

immunizations.

2. County Department of Social Services agencies offer various types of services

to communities. Included are adoption

services, child support enforcement,

emergency assistance, food and nutrition

services, problem pregnancy services,

Work First family assistance and

determination of eligibility for Medicaid

(a health insurance program for low-

income individuals and families who

cannot afford health care costs).

3. Pregnancy Resource Centers are non-

profit agencies that operate in some of the

counties in North Carolina. Examples of

the services that these agencies may

provide include pregnancy tests, options

counseling, referrals and free ultrasounds.

4. Adoption Agencies are private agencies

that help facilitate adoptions. Counseling

and support services are a key part of

adoption and are available from many

adoption agencies.

5. Planned Parenthood offers reproductive

health care through clinics in several

cities in the state. Services provided

include birth control, general health care

and women’s health care.

6. Agency provides free ultrasounds.
