Dr. Wheeler Style Tour with Robert Byrd to Scandinavia Monday, August 20, 2018, to Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Our long awaited Scandinavian adventure is finally planned, and I am very happy to present the following itinerary for your consideration. We have packed so much into this trip that we had to add three extra days. We will start in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and then drive up to the Arctic Circle, across the northern part of Sweden to Norway, then back down the Norwegian Coast to the indescribably beautiful fjords, before swinging back east to Oslo, and finally finishing up in Stockholm. Of course we have included many stops along the way, as well as providing breakfast and dinner each day, six lunches, and all other travel costs. You will not want to miss this amazing chance to tour the land of the Vikings, reindeer, Santa Claus, enchanted landscapes, fjords, waterfalls, and so much more. I am ready to depart today. I hope you are as excited about this fantastic tour as I am. Day 1, Monday, August 20, 2018: Travel to Helsinki Today we begin our tour of Scandinavia with a flight from New Orleans. We will then connect with an overnight flight to Amsterdam, then on to Helsinki, the capital of the Scandinavian country of Finland. As always, I will be happy to arrange flights from alternative departure cities for anyone who wishes to join us from a different airport. Overnight: Trans-Atlantic Flight Day 2, Tuesday, August 21, 2018: Helsinki We are scheduled for an early afternoon arrival into Helsinki’s Vantaa Airport. After reclaiming our luggage and clearing passport control we will meet our good friend and very talented driver, Markus Gassner, who as usual will be driving up from his home in Austria to pick us up in his luxurious motor coach. We will then go to our hotel in the center of Helsinki, near the water front. After checking in you may wish to explore the area around our hotel. If time allows, I hope to visit the sea fortress of Suomenlinna, which is located in the harbor of Helsinki, southeast of the city. You are welcome to join me. Suomenlinna is spread over several islands, and was constructed in the 18 th century. It is now one of Helsinki's major attractions, containing the fortress Museum, as well as several other museums and the submarine Vesikko.
