CLUB NEWS from our PresidentHi Everyone,

Well since our last newsletter we’ve had our AGM and we finally have 12 seats filled on our committee.

Raels has joined us now and she is doing the membership side of things and is doing a great job at that. She also has some fresh ideas to contribute to the club. We welcome her.

I had to do a quick trip to Toowoomba in August. I’d never been there before but really loved the fact that they have a radio station which has country music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I wish we did in Adelaide. If we do, I don’t know about it.

It won’t be long until Christmas is upon us. I’m looking forward to the Gospel Concert before the main entertainment at our Christmas show (December 2nd).

Sad to see that Tammy Latham has resigned from SACCM, but I’m sure she will excel in her studies with Uni SA. Hopefully we will see her sometime or other at our Club if there is any spare time! She is always very welcome. We truly wish her all the best for her future.

Enjoy reading the rest of your newsletter. Ian Fisk (the flasher) always does a very good job as Publicity Officer and Editor of our newsletter (well I think so anyway).

Bye for now,Thank God for Country,Di Smith

LORRAINE’S ROUND-UPAug 2007 Entertainment ReportThe day we had on our AGM was well attended. The band of the month was the Creole cowboyZ. After a wobbly start with their sound equipment they got the music swinging along and the dance floor full of happy dancers. It is also pleasing to see happy

faces on non-dancing people.I like the band’s happy faces and being willing to please. They sent their apologies for the bad start. Walk-up Steve Liley always performs well and also Steve Tripodi sings good country songs.Bye for now.

It was Fathers’ Day and I hope all had a good day. The band of the month was Midnight Mountain Blue.

They always perform a nice range of country music. The dance floor was always full.

The guest artist for the day, Kristal Collins, was excellent, a lovely young lady who will be forever popular and go a long way.

Along came a newcomer Eliza Parker, about 8 years old, I would think. She sang a couple of Slim Dusty songs.

A surprise appearance was Ian List who also sang a couple of songs for us.

It was another good day.

A special thanks to the band for asking Kristal to finish the show with them.

Bye for Now, Lorraine Page 3

October Show:- Midnight Special

It is my ambition to become an International recording artist. I recorded my first professional CD at Manuka Studios in Orewa, just north of Auckland, released in March 2007. It’s called ‘Heart of Blue’ after a song I wrote after doing the Songwriter course at the New Zealand Arts and Drama Academy in June 2006. This CD is primarily for my NZ fans but has had some airtime in Adelaide too. So you could say I’ve made a good start on that ambition.

The NZ Country Music Awards Circuit has taught me my trade so far, for which I am most grateful. I’ve had some professional coaching too, from Bryan Bevege, who did the backing vocals for my CD too.

I have been an artist at many charity events, large and small, over the last seven years, including a stage show in June 2007 with Jody Vaughan and an appearance with the Topp twins in Ashburton in 2006.

I represented the Tauranga Country Music Awards (and New Zealand) at the Norfolk Island Trans-Tasman Entertainer of the Year contest in April 2007. The third prize that I achieved there will help me on my way to Tamworth in 2008.My duo partner, Hayley Smith, and I won the Gore Golden Guitars Awards Intermediate Duo in 2005 and 2006. We couldn’t try for a hat-trick in 2007 because I

was at Norfolk.I had my own gig at the 2007 Country Rock Festival in Paihia after being a crowd pleaser there with Dennis August in 2006.

I had the opportunity to sing as the support act for Sandra Humphries on her seven show tour of New Zealand in February 2006. That was just so good! Sandra and Henry taught me so much. Thank you! The biggest show I’ve done was being part of the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park in 2006, where I sang “Snoopy’s Christmas” with NZ TV actors Shane Cortese and Drew Neemia. I nearly had stage fright, when I looked out at 200,000 Kiwi’s in the park, where it was held. I’m auditioning for that show again this year.

I’m also an actor. I did major parts in shows, while I was at college, and am now in the Hamilton Theatre’s production of “Rent”.

I’m not a complete stranger to South Australia. I visited my Dad (Steve Liley) at Christmas 2006 and again in February 2007. I’ve been to the SACCM Junior Crossover and did a fun walkup at Barossa Valley CMC with “Just Passin’”.

I’m really looking forward to doing the guest spot at Adelaide CMC in October and at Barossa Valley too.

STOP PRESSBrendon Liley, guest artist at Adelaide and Barossa Valley

Country Music Clubs this October, won the 2007 New Zealand Country Music Entertainer of the Year Awards Overall Intermediate prize with his duo partner Hayley Smith on Saturday night 22nd of September. He also won the Runner-up prize as a soloist.

In New Zealand the Country Music association has three age group competitions:- Juniors up to 12 years, Intermediate 13 to 18 years and Senior over 18. This was Brendon’s last Intermediate year.(Guess who advised the Editor of the above!)

November Show:- Bernie and the BanditsOur Country Call of April May 2007 had a write up on Bernie and the Bandits, please refer to that issue for information on the band.

October Show Guest:- Emily Zanker - 2007 Len Wakefield Memorial Fund recipient

Emily has sent the following:-

“I’m 15 years old and live in Jamestown, South Australia. I have been playing guitar for a year and have just started playing the bass guitar also. John O’Dea is my teacher for all of this and he also helps me with singing. I have been in 5 talent quests and 2 state champs and have won a total of 7 awards including the Len Wakefield Memorial Trophy.

With the money that I won with this award I have bought a bass guitar. This award has been a great honour to win and I am very thankful to have won it.”

Go to the SACCM website and use the Google Search of the saccm site for Zanker and a

number of results and pictures will be found.

At 29th Annual South Australian Country Music Festival Barmera 2007 – Emily received the Senior Gospel encouragement award and was third in the 16 years and under section.

For some time the intrepid Publicity Officer has been encouraging me to put pen to paper. As the newest person on committee, I suppose it’s only right that the challenge be accepted, so O.K. Ian here ‘tis!

To all Members,

It’s really very exciting to be a ‘team’ participant and I do look forward to working with and for all. Should something need to be brought to official attention, or anyone has a particular idea which could benefit our organisation, please don’t hesitate to approach me, perhaps during the course of a regular club day, when I’m not snowed under with Membership Registry duties, hahaha.

Now on a more personal level ... it was once said that I could sing before I could walk - that’s innumerable renditions. Repertoire has included classical, rock ‘n’ roll, ballads, popular music, blues, jazz and naturally country music! I have composed the occasional song as well.

Locally, in country towns and interstate have sung on radio, in competitions, (received some great trophies too), local theatres, variety shows, dances, cabarets, charity fund-raisers, parties, sing-a-longs, with bands, country music workshops, at karaoke and regular jammin’ sessions, complete with guitar of course! Venues have included a casino, nursing homes, social clubs, country music locations, hotels, kids’ camps, (but that was a very, very, long time ago), around camp fires, (hasn’t everyone?) and even a nightclub or two.

Although once told “…don’t give up your day job ‘cause you sure can’t sing”, my enthusiasm remains, and therefore continue in an amateur status to do just that, whenever possible. Certainly have fun performing with unsuspecting bands when I do ‘walk-ups’!

Family consists of four adult offspring and eleven grandchildren. Several have displayed talents musically, vocally and on stage in dance performances, which is a real ‘buzz’ for me.

Main interests are music, animals, baubles, classic cars and writing poetry.

For over six years I have held membership in the Adelaide Country Music Club and look forward to sharing many more memorable times with fellow enthusiasts.

I’ll like to take this opportunity to mention my appreciation for all who have shown me support over those years. This definitely includes the musicians who have willingly provided musical backing for me on so many occasions. Last but not least, for the special friendships formed, which have so enriched my life – thank you!

Raels E. Georg,

Raels

Your Publicity Officer has not been sitting at home a lot in the last two months, especially in September. As well as attending the Adelaide Club meetings I have been to the Gawler Club twice, the Barossa Club and Southern Club once each.Beccy Cole, Gina Jeffreys and Sara Storer (the Songbirds) were seen in the wonderful Brenton Langbein Theatre in Tanunda in September and Beccy again at the Southern CM Club with her mother Carole SturtzelDon’t forget that the Brecknock Hotel has regular gigs. The Jessie Che Band is often there. Recently the Cowtippers were there too.The Hindmarsh Valley Hall was also visited to see Rodney Vincent and Dave Prior in August and Keith Jamieson - Alisha Smith - Reg Poole show in September.
