President’s Report.Hello to all members and friends. Into March now and still getting a touch of hot weather which looks like hanging around for another couple of months. At the February show it was 38 degrees and the air-conditioning was not working (a President’s nightmare) and only hot air blowing in. Our members and visitors were very tolerant and stayed all day with only a few who chose to leave early. Thanks for the good attendance under the trying circumstances. The malfunction of the air-conditioning was due to a plumber who had turned off the water supply for extension work of the cool room and left the job without restoring the water supply to the air-conditioners in the hall. All fixed now and was O.K. at the March show.I have to report that my Vice President, Kay Peel, has had to resign due to health problems. Kay did a splendid job whilst on committee and when filling in for me during a couple of extended holidays. Thanks for a job well done Kay. This has now created a casual vacancy for Vice President. Members (who have a minimum of 12 months current membership) are asked to consider applying for the position. It is important for me to have a backup should I not be able to attend for whatever reason. The current vacancy term is due to expire in August 2020 (2 year terms) when it comes up for re-election. Feel free to talk to me if you are interested and I can fill in any information if required.Membership fees are now due to be renewed so as you can maintain membership rates and receive your copy of the ‘Country Call’. Renewals can be posted to us (PO Box 307, Modbury North 5092) but it would be appreciated if a stamped addressed envelope is included. Our First Aid Officer, Jenny Galvin, has asked to be relieved of her duty after quite a few years. She carried out her duties well when the needs arose. Thanks Jenny. Our new First Aid Officer is club member Ramona Paterson who is a qualified First Aid Officer. Ramona has already attended to a few members problems recently. Our members, members of other clubs and visitors have enjoyed only having to pay $6 and $8 door fees for many years and we resisted raising fees when most other clubs raised theirs. We have been doing O.K. Now that the club is employing more interstate artists and the quality bands are costing more, committee are in discussion with regard

to aligning with other club door fees, ie. $8 & $10. The Committee will continue to debate the issue and a decision will be made at the August AGM.

Joy Champion is on the sick list and is or has had an operation. Get well Joy. Long time member Barbara Marsh has had a stay in hospital and has not been able to attend the club for a few months now. Get well also Barb.

Our 30th birthday show in February was a great day. Bernie and the Bandits were the band with Guest artist Kim Ritchie from Bendigo, Kim, who is blind, was rapt in the band claimed they were an excellent group that did not need music charts. Kim’s would have been in Braille anyway. I will be catching up with Kim and partner John next month when I go to Bendigo for a couple of weeks. Our March show was also a great day with the band Heartland with Craig Giles and Kinta. Craig certainly has a good following. Our Len & Lorraine Wakefield Fund winner Gemma Tiller also sang 3 songs. She is coming along in leaps and bounds. She will be putting down a demo Cd at Red Brick Music studio being part of her winnings. Next month we will have The Steve Bartel Band from Whyalla. Looking forward to that.

See you all on the 7th April. Keep it country

From their website (https://www.thestevebartelband.com)

“Not since the iconic Country band Twang Villa has there emerged a new powerful source of Country Music. Now, in the form of The Steve Bartel Band, boasting two icons of the original Twang Villa, singer Steve Bartel and drummer Bernie Fenwick, having combined with the talents of Craig Stringer, Peter Brown and Wal Pawlik, there is a new sound in Country.

Playing a heady mix of foot stomping covers and original music they will keep you dancing with soaring ballads and kicking rock. TSBB has gained a solid reputation as the North’s premier Country Music, Dance, Party and Show Band.

The members of the TSBB are no strangers to the performing world, with over 75 years combined experience. This includes playing in numerous bands, session work to laidback duos. The chemistry

that has evolved from these guys coming together is amazing.

With the release of their recent debut album “Time Will Tell”, TSBB has received critical acclaim from Country radio stations around Australia.

Their Single, “So Go On”, released in late 2016

From their facebook site(https://www.facebook.com/creolecowboyz/)

“Gator Music…from South West Louisiana….Acadiana…..the Rural Heartland....rice and sugar cane, ‘gators and crawfish.

From the steamy bayous of Flagstaff Hill to the gator filled estuaries of Semaphore come these good ol’ boys toting their fiddle, accordion, mandolin, rubboard and gittars. Whilst these origins might explain the soggy instruments, the music definitely is not.

The spiritual heartland for the Creole Cowboyz is South Louisiana and the religion is Cajun and Zydeco music. Between them the boys have had several trips and a residency in Louisiana to learn their craft from the high priests of the genre. Halleluiah brothers and sisters!

Since 2005 the Creole Cowboyz have brought a unique rootsy sound and style of music to our shores with a clear message…..it’s all about dance and letting the good times roll. Cajun and zydeco is upbeat and spiced with humour, always getting everybody dancing and caught up in the fun at every gig. The Cowboyz will also jump in their Chev Impala to cross state lines for a little Tex-Mex, bluegrass and alt country along the way.

The success of their first two recordings inspired lead singer Darryl (AKA Dixie) Green to write a true-to-genre collection of songs for the Get Up and Dance CD. These collections have found favour with their

loyal following and local stations including 3D Radio and Radio Adelaide.

As well as originals, the Creole Cowboyz play the popular standards of South Louisiana and covers of past hits that have been beaten into Cajun/Zydeco submission. The Creole Cowboyz have been heard at The Trinity Sessions, Governor Hindmarsh, The Wheatsheaf, Semaphore Alt Country Music Festival, Tour Down Under at McLaren Vale and Country Music Clubs and festivals from Port Pirie to the Southern Vales.

With decades of total band experience, the BoyZ are:‘Dixie’ Darryl Green: Vocals, Guitars, Button

Accordions”Not mentioned on their site was Errol Fedricks on

reached Number 3 on the Tasmanian Independent Country Music Charts.

TSBB were nominated for “Best Group” in the Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards for 2016 making the final 6 amongst other great acts such as The McClymonts, The Wolfe Brothers and The Adam Eckersley Band.

Follow up Singles, Is It Love (Or Is It The Beer?)

and Fallin’ & Flying both charted very well and will be released on a full length album in late 2018. The Album will feature 12 tracks with 11 Steve Bartel Band Originals.

TSBB is a band that is driven by their passion for Country Music, and their unyielding desire to create and entertain. It is that intensity that is captured every time The Steve Bartel Band steps on stage.”

BERNARDETTE, KEVIN AND JUDY’S TAMWORTH TRIP 2019Mon. 14th Jan I was dropped off at Bernardette & Kevin’s house to commence our trip to Tamworth for the 47th festival. On the way to Broken hill we stopped at Burra for morning tea and then Yunta for lunch. On the journey from Yunta to Broken Hill the car air-con started pushing out hot air, so we then changed to natural air but as temperature outside was about 45C it was a bit hot!!! Following lots of phone calls and finding somewhere who could help it meant a longer stay in Broken Hill as the part wouldn’t arrive until Wednesday. We spent the next few days looking around and seeking refuge in air-conditioned places, such as the Library, Workmens club and shopping centres as the temps outside were around 45, 46 & 48C. Another blow was dealt on Wed when it was found the part had been left behind at the Carriers depot. We finally got on our way on Thurs 17th at 2.15 p.m. for our stop at Cobar. Rising at 5 a.m. we left at 6.20 a.m. and saw a few roo’s and lots of wild goats along the way the area was very dry. We arrived at our campsite in Tamworth at 4p.m. following comfort and nourishment stops at Nyngan, Dubbo, & Merriwa. After settling in at the Rugby Club we took off to Toyota Park for the Opening Concert it was still hot, but we were just pleased to be in Tamworth. Saturday, we finished setting up the annexe on the caravan and went off to purchase tickets for some shows. We caught the Legends long lunch at Westies featuring Daniel Thompson, Mike Carr, Anthony Taylor & Luke Austen. In the afternoon we went to the Albert to see Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont it was very hot in the Marquee but with large fans and water misters it wasn’t too bad. We then went to West Leagues club and had a lovely roast meal and saw the Gina Timms Birthday Bash with several other artists. Sunday was cooler & overcast we went to Peel St to have a wander and do shopping. The evening we headed to Toyota Park for the Star Maker Grand Final in which 2 South Aussies were taking part Juliet Oliver & Matt James they performed well but the winner was Blake O’Connor. During the Show the weather turned and we had thunder, lightning and rain so the brollies had to come out. Monday was overcast and 31C so headed to Peel St for shopping and then on to the Longyard to look around the souvenir shop, take photos of the Golden Guitar and eat lunch whilst listening to Pat Drummond. We then went to Capital Theatre to see Kristy Cox & Travis List in their ‘Love Songs’ show it was very good. In the evening it was off to Toyota Park for the Americana Concert, lightning, thunder and rain also made an appearance but the rain did not become steady until the last song. Tuesday, we went to Shoppingworld and saw Hill Billy Goats, Jessica Odgers, Billie Crane, Colt Seavers Band and Chad Morgan. The afternoon we went to the Patsy Cline, George Strait, Dolly Parton and Alan Jackson Show just their songs not the real deal but the show was done very well. In the evening Kevin dropped me back at Toyota Park for the International Showcase which featured artists from UK, Canada, USA and NZ and weather was fine. Wednesday Bernie and Kevin headed for the Shoppingworld to see Bushwackers and Haystack

Mountain Hermits and dropped me off near Peel St. so I had a wander and listened to Taylor Pfeiffer busking and chatted to her mum and then I went to the Golden Fiddlers Show at Capital Theatre it was hosted by Pixie Jenkins , numerous awards were made to the various acts the show was excellent. I then headed to Toyota Park for the Bush Dance record attempt but was too late to take part and it fell short by 30 people. Saw numerous artists at different venues and went back to caravan for tea. The evening we all headed back to Toyota Park for the Back to the Bush Spectacular – the weather turned again at first high winds with leaves falling like snow and then about 8.10 p.m. the storm came, after 10 mins with the rain pelting down and seeping through the umbrellas we left! Back at the campsite a tree had come down on a car & tent and numerous other campers had minor damage to tents and annexes. Thursday, we did some washing before heading back in to Peel St to listen to buskers etc in the afternoon I went to the Town hall to see Sara Storer, Troy Casser-Daley made a guest appearance and Shanley Dell and James Gillard also appeared, a very polished show. The evening saw us at Westies for the Maton Showcase. Friday brought clear skies we headed early to the Town Hall for a free one hour show by Murphy’s Pigs it was excellent, this was followed by some New Stars & Oldies talent comps. The evening it was off to Westies again for our much awaited shows, first Adam Harvey and later Beccy Cole both top quality entertainment, Beccy’s band members were all female. We had a lovely roast tea in between shows. Saturday I went back to the Town Hall to see some of the Talent quest finals it was much cooler in there than out in the street, later in the day I met up with Bernie and Kevin and we went to the Willie and Roy Show (Mark Shelley & John Robertson) at Capital Theatre it was very well done, if it ever comes to Adelaide it is definitely worth a look. It was hot in caravan before the aircon took effect and I spent the evening in the Rugby Club house watching the Ladies Tennis final! Sunday it was a little bit cooler and we started to take down the annexe sides and then went to Westies for the Legends Long Lunch, followed by Allan Tomkins and band then Johnny Taylor after another roast for tea it was back to the campsite to put the annexe down and Kevin packed the car. During the night there was some heavy rain and it was an overcast sky when we left Tamworth. The journey home was cooler than the one going up and with overnight stops at Nyngen and Burra we arrived back home all intact and still friends on Wed. morning. It had been 22 years since my last visit and I was lucky to have been invited by Bernie and Kevin to go with them. There were a lot more artists that we saw and could have named (especially Bernies favourite, Don Costa)- whoops! sorry Bernie, but it would have taken up too much space.Judy, on behalf of Bernardette & Kevin.

Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial FundSubject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout South Australia, Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The fund is administered by the ACMC committee with expenditure limited to the interest from capital invested (plus raffles from time to time), with all payments made to the appropriate body. Annually an awardee is chosen by the Full Committee. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.

After Lorraine’s passing the fund was renamed to include Lorraine’s name. The selection procedure has had to be changed slightly as there are fewer talent contests held at present than in the past.
