1. OUTLINE Software operating environment

The following hardware and software requirements have to be met for installing and operating the software: • PC on which Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 runs comfortably without operational or response

problem. • OS: Windows XP SP2 or later, Windows Vista SP1 or later, Windows 7 • Screen resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels (XGA) or higher is recommended • Supported font sizes (DPI):

“Regular size (96 dpi)” (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7) • Free serial interface or USB 2.0 port Objective models

PF900/PF901 Language support

Japanese or English Functions

• Program controller setting data, including engineering settings, can be monitored and set. • All settings in the program controller can be saved as a file on a computer, and all settings in a file can be set in

the program controller. • The set values saved in a file can be checked against the set values configured in the program controller. • Graph of program pattern can be displayed. • A trend graph can be displayed. Trend data can be saved in the PC as data record file (CSV format). • Can be used in Loader communication and Host communication (only RKC communication). Caution and restrictions

• Errors may be displayed even if batch setting has been successfully done. Make sure the relevant set data will not affect the control action when such errors are shown.

• While setting parameters by Direct Mode of the setting tool (WinUCI-PF900), DO NOT change parameter settings of PF900/PF901 by front key operation or other communication to avoid data discrepancies between the setting tool and PF900/PF901.

2. CONNECTIONS

2.1 Connections for Loader Communication To connect PF900/PF901 with a PC, the following hardware and connection are necessary. PF900/PF901 is connected to COM-K (USB communication converter manufactured by RKC Instrument) by proprietary loader communication cable, and COM-K is connected to a PC by proprietary USB cable.

• Personal computer (USB port: Based on USB Ver. 2.0) • RKC USB communication converter COM-K

COM-K-

• Loader communication cable W-BV-03 loader communication cable (Standard cable length: 1.5 m supplied with COM-K-3) W-BV-01 loader communication cable (Standard cable length: 1.5 m supplied with COM-K-1)

• USB cable (Standard cable length: 1 m, COM-K- accessory)

• USB driver for COM-K *

* When using the loader communication, USB driver for COM-K must be installed on the personal computer. The USB driver for COM-K is in the CD-R which comes with PF900/PF901 as compressed file. It also can be downloaded from the official RKC website.

1 Execute usb_drier.EXE to extract compression files. 2 To use usb_driver.zip, prepare for an appropriate software to extract by a customer.

In addition, the USB driver for COM-K can be downloaded from the official RKC website:

URL: http://www.rkcinst.com/

For the COM-K, refer to the COM-K Instruction Manual (IMR01Z01-E ).

The Loader port is only for parameter setup.

Loader communication can be used on a PF900/PF901 even when the communication function (option) is not installed.

To use Front loader port, Loader communication cable must be W-BV-03. W-BV-03 comes with COM-K-03 from the factory. W-BV-03 is also sold separately for COM-K-N and COM-K-1.

To prevent electric shock or instrument failure, turn off the power before connecting or disconnecting the instrument and peripheral equipment.

Wiring method

Connect the PF900/PF901, COM-K, and Personal computer using a USB cable and a Loader communication cable. Make sure the connectors are oriented correctly when connecting.

Use only one of the loader ports (front or bottom) at the same time. Do not use both at the same time.

• Communication port of personal computer

USB port: Based on USB Ver. 2.0 • Communication settings on the personal computer (The following values are all fixed)

Communication speed: 38400 bps Start bit: 1 Data bit: 8 Parity bit: Without Stop bit: 1

• The device address for loader communication is fixed at “0.” The setting of the device address is disregarded. • Communication protocol

RKC communication protocol (Based on ANSI X3.28-1976 subcategories 2.5 and A4) When using the front loader port

Use W-BV-03 to connect PF900/PF901 to COM-K.

To communicate with PF900/PF901 by the front loader port, PF900/PF901 must be powered ON. When using the bottom loader port

Use W-BV-01 to connect PF900/PF901 to COM-K.

To communicate with PF900/PF901 by the bottom loader port, PF900/PF901 is not necessary to be powered ON. When monitoring the measured value (PV) or pattern, PF900/PF901 must be powered ON.

2.2 Wiring for Host Communication PF900/PF901 communicates with host computer by optional host communication function using terminals. The protocol is RKC (ANSI X3.28-1976 subcategories 2.5 and A4) or Modbus*. Host communication function can be used when communication function is specified (code: 1, 4, 5, W, or X) when ordering.

* This software (WinUCI-PF900) supports only RKC protocol. To check data send/receive status by Modbus communication protocol, use “WMsci” communication software. WMsci can be downloaded from the official RKC website.

URL: http://www.rkcinst.com/

For the protocol and specification of Host Communication, refer to PF900/PF901 Instruction Manual (IMR02L03-E ).

Set parameter settings of PF900/PF901 in Direct mode from the PC

In Direct mode, parameter settings of the communicating PF900/PF901 can be changed from the PC on each screen.

Before start changing parameter settings of PF900/PF901 from the PC, save all parameter settings in the PC as set value file (CSV format). In case of trouble, parameter settings before the change can be recovered from the file.

Refer to the 7.1 Save Parameter Settings of PF900/PF901 in the PC (P. 28).

Example: Set event parameters by loader communication from the PC.

1. Go to Monitor screen, referring to Monitor data in Direct mode (P. 19).

2. Click [Event memory] tab.

3. Event memory screen is displayed. Change the event set value. Displayed data on the screen is the one which was read out from PF900/PF901 when the screen was switched.

On screens for parameter setting, when the screen is switched to or data is sent, data is read out from PF900/PF901. However, on the following screens, once data was read out from PF900/PF901, data is not updated by switching a screen. To update parameter setting data, click [Receive] to read out data from PF900/PF901.
