At a recent lightning carnival, all teams acquitted themselves well, but the Girls Red team were the overall winners and will now compete in the Regional finals. Congratulations to all involved! May we just make a few safety reminders: 1. Students are not permitted to play on any equipment after school. We know this is somewhat of a pain, but the main reason is that students supervised by parents attract students who are NOT supervised at all. Often when asked where the “supervising” parent is located, students reply that they are “over there” (sometimes hundreds of metres away), or even at a parent/teacher meeting. In a perfect world, none of this would matter, but sadly it does – and the Principal carries the Duty of Care responsibility, not the parents…. 2. Students or parents in the staff car park are at risk. It is a tight area with lots of traffic, and cars that park in the Undercover area pop out with no warning. This applies to parents picking students up from Horizons, who should park at the rear of the PAC. 3. The third reminder is a more positive one – a reminder to thank those proactive parents on the P&C and Roadwise committees for advocating for traffic calming in Annie Street – finally!! Parents still need to follow the road rules in order to keep our students (and their pockets) safe. And finally….what a Mother’s Day Breakfast that was!! A restaurant quality meal, great vibe and hugely well attended. Thanks to Ben Green and his band of merry helpers (plus our fantastic staff) – you did an awesome job. Dads, grandads, uncles etc all around the suburbs are really looking forward to Father’s Day Brekky… Thanks The Admin Team WHAT’S HAPPENING Friday 3 June Staff Professional Development Day - Students DO NOT attend Monday 6 June Public Holiday - Western Australia Day Students DO NOT attend Friday 10 June Room 3 Assembly Tuesday 14 June Kindy Starfish Group Photos* Wednesday 15 June School Photos* Thursday 16 June Kindy Seahorse Group Photos* * Photo information packs will be distributed as soon as they are to hand. Term 2 Week 4, 18 May 2016 From the Admin Team

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Winterfold continues to be a strongly performing school in so many areas; and now our cricket teams have excelled! At a recent lightning carnival, all teams acquitted themselves well, but the Girls Red team were the overall winners and will now compete in the Regional finals. Congratulations to all involved!

May we just make a few safety reminders:

1. 2. Students or parents in the staff car park are

at risk.

Dads, grandads, uncles etc all around the suburbs are really looking forward to Father’s Day Brekky… Thanks The Admin Team

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank our lovely Canteen Co-ordinator, Pip Slaughter, for the high standards and effort that she puts into making sure our Canteen is so well run and organised. Thank you also to all our parent helpers who give their time and assistance so freely to help make it such a successful canteen.

Rusting Ladder Rung in Kindy - Request for Repair

The last rung on the ladder of a much loved (and irreplaceable) piece of play equipment in the Kindy is rusting, and we’re calling out to see if there’s anyone who would be kind enough to offer their assistance and expertise in welding the rung to fix it.

If you can help or know someone who can, please contact the Winterfold office on 9337 2936 or e-mail us on [email protected]

Thank you!

Canteen News

Soup is flying out the door! Congratulations again to Ronan and Elise for sharing such tasty recipes with the school.

A special thanks to Paul Smith and Lise Reid who jumped in to help last Friday.

If the order line is really long, consider coming behind the counter to help at drop off for 15 minutes, it really does help!

Thanks again to Georgie Reppas and Lilli Merry who lend us their grandmothers every week.

Thank you to all our helpers in Kindy

Heidi's dad (Jamie) dug the manure into the veggie patch. Raphael's mum (Yulia) brought in a beautiful, painted tyre planter. Molly's mum (Emily) is washing the bean bag covers, while Eve's mum (Brooke) is refilling them for us. Our lovely canteen manager, Pip, has also donated seed potatoes and bean bag filling.

We are very grateful for everyone's help and support.

T20 Blast Interschool Carnival

After the success of the Winterfold Big Bash T20 Cricket Tournament in Term 1, Winterfold sent three boys teams and two girls teams to the District T20 Blast Interschool Carnival at Gilbert Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle on Thursday, 5 May 2016. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all students with some smashing batting, quick and accurate bowling and terrific fielding displays from all sides.

There was even a "dance off" half way through the day where the students bust a move. One of Winterfold boys teams had some great success and finished in second place for the tournament. The highlight of the day was that one of our girls teams won the trophy and will now compete in the Regional Finals in October! If the girls team win the Regional Finals, they will progress to the State Finals at the WACA. If they win the State Finals they will travel all the way to the MCG to compete in the National Finals. What a fantastic incentive! We are all just glad that they enjoyed the games and are keen to keep playing the great game of cricket.

TRAVELSMART

Well done to our first raffle ticket winners for Term 2: Jonny Jones-Head Jesse Jones-Head Liam Mulchrone We had a special visit from RAC to teach each of our classes about Road Safety. Thank you very much to Prue who came in and ran some hands-on and very educational activities for us. Our school could win up to $5000 if we have the highest percentage of students join the Little Legends Club. Joining this club is free and you can get special discounts to fun things, such as the movies and zoo. You can send your form back to school or sign up at https://littlelegends.rac.com.au

FIRST AID

We have also been very lucky this term to have St John's Ambulance visit and run a First Aid session for each class. Basic First Aid skills ranging from Danger and Response knowledge through to student's learning the recovery position. Thanks so much to our local ambulance services.
