Dear Parents, Please find below more detailed information about the activities at The Wild Lodge. The Wild Lodge staff have already explained these to you at our Parent Evening on October 11th. Challenge by Choice Our challenge-by-choice approach enables each student to achieve their own successful adventure in the context of their own aspiraons free from peer or instructors pressure. We have found during adventure acvies, the greatest achievements are never in terms of the distance leapt or the height climbed and that in all our adventure acvies everyone has a role to play. All challenges are age appropriate.  1. River Bed Scramble Running adjacent to the Wild Lodge in the season is a forest river formed by run o during the rainy season from the surrounding hills. The river has been carved from rock and boulders many thousands of years ago and this river is our study  route. Starng in the Naonal Park itself we climb a track up to a small waterfall area. Below there we use the river bed to descend back down to The Wild Lodge. The stream is not oo d prone and in the season that we descend has very lile water owing, meaning it is easily possible to walk down. Prior to the scramble, a short session will be held on the local ora and fauna that can be found and students will be given a worksheet to complete duri ng their scramble. Students will wear helmets durin g the river scramble acvity and Wild Planet guides will rig any secons that are dicult to navigate with hand lines. Water and worksheet will be carried by stu- dents in their daypacks.  Although strenuous this acvity enables us to access the forest in an unorthodox way and students will experience the feelin g of being completely immersed within the forest. Guides will also be poinng out the unique ora, fauna and wildlife as we move into the park.  PLEASE NOTE THAT NIST STAFF WILL MAKE A RISK ASSESSMENT ON THE MORNING OF EACH TREK AND DECIDE IF THE WATER LEVEL IS OK FOR THIS ACTIVITY TO PROCEED.  2. Climbing Acvies session During this session the students will make use of a number of elements that we have onsite at the Wild Lodge, They will split into smaller groups and parcipate in three sessions. 1. Climbing and Bouldering ( Main tower) 2. Abseiling (from the main tower) 3. Low Ropes.( Low Ropes Course) The elements are in two locaons; The climbing and abseiling tower is constructed on a network of pre-stressed ulity poles and is integrated into our Aerial Challenges course. Our low element course, which is only a few inches o the ground, is sited in an a djacent grove of trees. During the climbing and abseiling sessions the groups will be wearing full PPE (harness and helmets) and during the Low Ropes session all students will wear helmets. Students will be belayed by Wild Planet sta during the climbing and abseiling sessions and the facilitaon of the low ropes secon will be carried out jointly by Wild Planet and School sta members.  This is a fun and excing adventure that will challenge the students. Students are enc ouraged to support each  other in the individual climbing acvies and then work together as a group on the low r ope challenges.  Year Four Camp 2011 28 September 2011

Dear Parents,Please find below more detailed information about the activities at The Wild Lodge.

The Wild Lodge staff have already explained these to you at our Parent Evening on

October 11th.

Challenge by Choice Our challenge-by-choice approach enables each student to achieve their own successful adventure in the context of their own

aspiraons free from peer or instructors pressure. We have found during adventure acvies, the greatest achievements are never in

terms of the distance leapt or the height climbed and that in all our adventure acvies everyone has a role to play.

All challenges are age appropriate. 1. River Bed Scramble Running adjacent to the Wild Lodge in the season is a forest river formed by run o during the rainy season from the

surrounding hills. The river has been carved from rock and boulders many thousands of years ago and this river is our study

route. Starng in the Naonal Park itself we climb a track up to a small waterfall area. Below there we use the river bed to descend

back down to The Wild Lodge. The stream is not ood prone and in the season that we descend has very lile water owing, meaning it

is easily possible to walk down. Prior to the scramble, a short session will be held on the local ora and fauna that can be found and

students will be given a worksheet to complete during their scramble. Students will wear helmets during the river scramble acvity

and Wild Planet guides will rig any secons that are dicult to navigate with hand lines. Water and worksheet will be carried by stu-

dents in their daypacks.

Although strenuous this acvity enables us to access the forest in an unorthodox way and students will experience the feeling of being

completely immersed within the forest. Guides will also be poinng out the unique ora, fauna and wildlife as we move into the park. PLEASE NOTE THAT NIST STAFF WILL MAKE A RISK ASSESSMENT ON THE MORNING OF EACH TREK AND DECIDE IF THE WATER LEVEL

IS OK FOR THIS ACTIVITY TO PROCEED. 2. Climbing Acvies session During this session the students will make use of a number of elements that we have onsite at the Wild Lodge, They will split into

smaller groups and parcipate in three sessions.

1. Climbing and Bouldering ( Main tower)

2. Abseiling (from the main tower)

3. Low Ropes.( Low Ropes Course)

The elements are in two locaons; The climbing and abseiling tower is constructed on a network of pre-stressed ulity poles and is

integrated into our Aerial Challenges course. Our low element course, which is only a few inches o the ground, is sited in an adjacent

grove of trees. During the climbing and abseiling sessions the groups will be wearing full PPE (harness and helmets) and during the Low

Ropes session all students will wear helmets. Students will be belayed by Wild Planet sta during the climbing and abseiling sessions

and the facilitaon of the low ropes secon will be carried out jointly by Wild

Planet and School sta members.

This is a fun and excing adventure that will challenge

the students. Students are encouraged to support each other in the individual climbing acvies and then work together as a group on the low rope challenges.
