My Personal Best: Thinking ME...
My Personal Best is about being the best I can be.
Being a Thinking ME means I create opportunities, overcome
challenges and make choices, in school and in life. To be the
best Thinking Me I can be, I need to develop the skills on the
tree. Taking part in PE will help me to develop these skills.
BE THE BEST OF WHATEVER YOU ARE
If you can’t be a pine at the top of the hill,Be a scrub in the valley – but beThe best little scrub by the side of the rill;Be a bush if you can’t be a tree.
If you can’t be a bush be a bit of the grass,And some highway happier make;If you can’t be a muskie then just be a bass – But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be crew,There’s something for all of us here. There’s big work to do, and there’s lesser to doAnd the task you must do is the near.
If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,If you can’t be the sun, be a star;It isn’t by size that you win or you fail – Be the best of whatever you are!

Encouragement
My Personal Best uses a life skills approaching to teaching PE. It supports every child to flourish and to achieve their personal best in PE, in school and in life. The Primary 2 resource is aimed at 7-11 year olds.
Social Me supports pupils to develop the traits that help them to understand others and work well with other people. These traits are shown in the Social Me tree.
TOP Programmes
My Personal Best has grown from the multi-ability model that underpins the TOP programmes:
• Healthy Me – developing children’s physical and mental health and personal skills.
• Social Me – developing children’s ability to work well with others.
• Thinking Me – developing children’s cognitive and creative skills.
• Physical Me – developing children’s ability to move effectively and efficiently.
Activities selected from TOP Games, TOP Gymnastics, TOP Dance, TOP Athletics and TOP Challenge (Outdoors) have been used to exemplify how the Social Me traits could be developed in PE. These are only examples: My Personal Best can be delivered through a wide range of physical activities as the focus is on how PE is delivered – teaching and learning methods – rather than what is delivered.
