Dear Parents/Caregivers
Attendance
Parents and caregivers of children from pre-primary to year 6 will be receiving some information about their child’s attendance rate up to and including this Wednesday. It is the Education Department’s expectations that a school works hard to maintain a high level of student attendance. In 2017 the school’s attendance rate was well below our expectations.
2018 has started on a much more positive note. Our daily attendance rate is over 92% and over 74% of our children are on track for regular attendance. Absences for more than 10 days in a semester will see a child fall below the regular attendance rate.
The school acknowledges and understands that sometimes circumstances are beyond anyone’s control; however, there are times when children have been off school for unacceptable reasons. Please remember that parents and caregivers have the responsibil ity of informing the school as to why their child was absent from school. Long periods of sickness should be supported by a letter from a medical practitioner.
SCARF FOR THIS FRIDAY'S ASSEMBLY
Also happening this Friday, our assembly community song is The Footy Song. As is the tradition, the students have the OPTION of wearing a scarf to the assem-
bly. It can be any scarf.
AFL,WAFL
Any Sporting code (rugby union, rugby league, cricket, soccer etc)
Any national scarf (Aust, NZ, UK etc)
A colourful number that Nanna knitted.
A plain scarf
PLEASE NOTE: NO footy hats, jumpers, flags etc are allowed. Strictly school uniform.
Please remember, this is purely OPTIONAL. We are NOT expecting parents/carers to go out and purchase a scarf for
this occasion. Many students will not have a scarf on the day.
Kind regards
John Donnelly
Young Leaders Conference
Last Friday, the student councillors and Mrs Berry were very privileged to join the National Young Leaders Day, held at the Perth Convention Centre. The day brings about 300 young leaders from many primary schools across the state together to listen to inspiring speakers and meet one another.
The first speaker was John Coutis, a man born with a significant physical disability. He shared stories about his life and how he overcame prejudice and adversity. Dr Fiona Woods was the next speaker who explained about the struggles she overcame to develop new techniques to significantly improve outcomes for burns victims. The third speaker, Andrew Embley (from the West Coast Eagles), spoke about how being a sports star required extraordinary effort and commitment to reach the pinnacle of a sport. The last presenter was Rick Arden, the Channel 7 news reader. He explained that how having a dream or goal is important, but that dreams can change, often for the better - as they did for him.
The student councillors all took different messages away from the day. It was very interesting listening to why different message that resonated with them. Overwhelmingly, all of the students agreed that whatever your dream, it required commitment, perseverance and enormous effort to reach your goal. The day was a great success and inspired our leaders to plan and dream for their futures. They have many ideas brewing about how they can help our school and inspire other children as they were on Friday.

Kiss and Ride
A polite reminder that the two bays allocated for Kiss and Ride are there for the morning and the afternoon. They are clearly marked and families who correctly use the bays get frustrated when someone chooses to use them for other reasons. Administration will continue to supervise the area in the afternoon, but in the morning it requires the goodwill and courtesy of our families to use them appropriately.
Playing before school
The school would appreciate it if school children did not play on the equip-ment before the start of school. The areas are not being supervised by a staff member and the school has a duty of care which cannot be passed on to a parent. Toddlers (pre-kindy), under the close supervision of a parent, are allowed to use the equipment.

Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We will be holding our annual ‘Jump Off’ on Tuesday 20th March (next week). The Jump Off is an event to celebrate and culminate the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program. The Jump Off will held in the morning beginning at 9:10am and runs for approximately half an hour. The students from Year 1-6 will be rotating through stations to show off the different skills they have been learning this term. The Jump Off day is a great opportunity for you to witness how much fun skipping can be. Come along, pick up a rope and join in the fun!
Students are encouraged to wear the colour red on the day. Don’t worry if you do not already have something red at home any colourful clothing will help to brighten up the day. Appropriate footwear is essential for
skipping.
Please bring cash donations and forms in to the office between Monday 19th and Friday 23rd March.
Thank you for joining us in the fight against heart disease.
