40 Years of the Museum of Oxford

2015 sees the Museum of Oxford celebrating 40 years. To mark this exciting period we’ve launched a 40:40 project - forty things for forty years. We want to find 40 things that you think are exclusively Oxford, the things that make Oxford, Oxford. Anything that inspires, fascinates, provokes or intrigues you about Oxford. It could be pictures, objects, stories, places, interesting facts, films almost anything goes! In short “the best of Oxford”.

Who better to help us with the ‘Best of’ treatment than thebestof Oxford.

www.thebestof.co.uk/local/oxford

We are pleased to welcome them on-board as our latest partner. thebestof Oxford is a local business that works to connect local people with recommended businesses and organisations, showcasing local events, reviews, offers and articles. You’ll be able to follow the progress of the project in our monthly blog on their website.

The resulting 40 Best of Oxford will form an exhibition from September. So let us have your ‘best of’ by the 7th of September.

@ The Gallery An exhibition of 40 objects selected by the local community to tell the story of their city. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Museum of Oxford has been working with local people and community groups to bring together objects which reflect their experiences and memories of Oxford over the past four decades. Visitors will be able to explore Oxford’s recent history through everyday objects, historic artefacts and personal mementoes. 40 Years, 40 Objects will also feature an exciting spotlight loan from the British Museum and artwork and digital stories created especially for the exhibition.

The Museum Gift Shop offers a range of products including gifts inspired by our collections. The shop also sells books by local authors and unique work created by Oxford and Oxfordshire artists and craft workers.
