Welcome to our first Term 2 newsletter and I hope everyone had a great holiday.
Our year 12 students will be receiving their marks from their half yearly exams this week
and I hope they are pleased with their results which should reflect the effort they put into
their studies. Remember this year 12
“There is a difference between not knowing and not knowing YET”
If you aren’t happy with your marks seek out your teachers for extra help and use your
study periods to make good summaries of each topic using the HSC study guides.
As in previous years, this term all year 12s are encouraged to participate in the year 12
mentor program. Teachers have volunteered to give up one free period a fortnight to help
a Year 12 student with their study. We have over 20 teachers who have volunteered to be
part of this program this year, reflecting my staff’s dedication towards their students. I
hope lots of Year 12 students get involved.
I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter

ANZAC Day 2016 Lest we Forget
On Wednesday 27th April, Illawarra Sports High
hosted their annual ANZAC Day Ceremony. Our
student choir sang both the Australian and New
Zealand national anthem and the Year 11 and 12
Modern History students spoke about the
significance of ANZAC day.
We were particularly privileged to have a guest
speaker, Mr Darryl Walker, a retired Headmaster
and previously the Honorary Secretary of the
Wollongong R.S.L. sub-Branch

NRL players assist students to participate in the
NRL Tackling Violence Program
Last term, ISHS Year 9, 10 and 11 students along
with PDHPE teacher Mr Brett Kelly participated
in the NRL Tackling Violence Program.
Students participated in a number of theoretical
and practical components with NRL players
Dylan Farell and Alan Tounge. The aim of the
program is to increase students awareness of
Domestic Violence and give them key skills to
deal with relationship issues in their lives. The
program is also being run with the local Berkley
Eagles football club
ISHS Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students had a fantastic time hiking in the Royal National Park
last week. The sun was shining as they made their way
along the stunning coastline from Otford to
Wattamolla. Stay tuned for further details of their
expedition...

Last year we attended the High Performance Surf Training Camp and Comp at Matraville sports
high. This time it was our turn to run the tri-school surf training day. We invited both Narrabeen
and Matraville Sport highs as both those schools run a surf program. We held the training session
at Port Kembla beach and at school. The morning session started off with a 2 hour functional
movement and trigger point therapy run by Brendan Tuck, head coach at VO2 Vitality Fitness.
That was followed by a 2 hour surf session, followed by a quick break for lunch. All the surfers
then came back to school and participated in a gymnastics, acrobat, strength and flexibility ses-
sion run by Miss Cividin (our Special Education HT and qualified gymnastics coach). To conclude
the day, they took advantage of the CLOWD room and through a video analysis of their morning
surf session with Nic Squiers. All in all, a pretty great day!
