What were the Middle Ages like?

Assessment Objectives:

1. This assessment is just so we can see where you are in History.

2. It looks at two historical skills; Source Evaluation and Historical Interpretation.

3. Questions 1 to 4 look at sources, whereas question 5 looks at historical interpretation.

• Don’t just write what you see but what you think it was supposed to show.

• Historical interpretation is based on seeing a historical period/event in different ways. You need to try and explain why they would be viewed in different ways.

Levels

• To get a level three you simply show what you see. You write it down and try to explain what it shows.

• To get a level four you have to move on and explain what it shows and why there might be different views of the middle ages (but in a simple way)

Levels

• To get a level five you must explain in a developed way what the sources show and why that leads people to see different views. Again, you must explain why these different views develop.

• Level six is difficult to get. You have to do all the level five skills plus, you need to read other sections and support your ideas with examples.

• The next slide shows arrows directed to things you could comment on

• Use WHO? WHERE? WHEN? WHAT? WHY? HOW? To help you to understand and write about the sources
