WHAT IS NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY?

It is an opportunity for those who wish to pursue an education in the visual arts and design fields to meet with representatives from colleges and universities accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Representatives will be available to review your artwork, discuss their programs, and answer questions about professional careers in art and design. We will also review work for students interested in architecture, as we often have architecture faculty in attendance at these events. High school students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and college transfer students are encouraged to attend.   At each National Portfolio Day site, you will register and receive a map of the schools’ tables for the day with a list of the majors each offers. The day may begin with tours of the hosting art school and information sessions. The review period follows, usually between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. (See reverse

for precise times.) Select the schools you want to see, but keep in mind that you may have to wait in lines. National Portfolio Days are an opportunity to exchange information about your work, yourself, your college plans, and your concerns. This is not an examination or competition. The college representatives are pleased to talk about their programs with you and can be most helpful when discussing your artwork. If you don’t want to bring a portfolio or you’re not ready to decide on a school, come anyway. You will be able to pick up publications about the schools and ask questions about what should be in your portfolio once it is prepared.

No admissions decisions or scholarship awards will be offered at National Portfolio Days, although some schools, including Washington University, may accept your portfolio as the visual portion of your application. All represented schools, including Washington University, are members of the National Portfolio Day Association and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

National Portfolio Day is an event specifically for aspiring visual artists and designers.

WashU wants to talk to you about your portfolio and our Colleges of Art and Architecture!
