WESTERN SPIRE
JUNE 2019 “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who
loves is born of God and knows God.” ~1 John 4:7
Beloved in Christ,
This past Sunday, the young people of our congregation led us in worship, and this passage was read. It
served as a powerful reminder - from the writer of 1 John, and from our youth - that to really know God, is to
love other people. But not just to love them, to love them as God loves them.
As most of you know, I will be away from Friday, May 24th, through Monday, June 3rd. The adoption
process Elena and I have been involved in for nearly two years now, is finally in the end stages. We have often
thought of this process as a pregnancy - for a long time we were simply expecting. Now we are in labor, and
these next few weeks are going to be full. We are filled with excitement, anxiety, nerves, and joy (and many
other emotions!). However, throughout this entire process, you, our church family, have been our beloved.
You have supported us by praying for us, encouraging us, hugging us, and gifting us with financial
assistance to bring our girl home. We are so deeply grateful for all of it.
During this journey, we have been reminded, time and again, of the story of the Israelites wandering in
the desert. They were filled with anxiety about what they were going to eat, until God sent manna. However,
with the manna came the instruction to not gather more than you needed for the day. If you did, the leftovers
would go bad overnight. God sent them exactly what they needed when they needed it. No more, no less.
This has been our story as we journey closer to our daughter. We have received gifts to help us with the
various adoption costs - visas, home studies, and so much more. We have always received what we needed,
when we needed it. No more, no less. This past week we received very generous gifts that will allow us to run
this race right over the finish line. It has been overwhelming and joy-filled. We feel so very loved.
So to you, our beloved, we give our most sincere thanks, and we ask for your continued prayers - for
safe travels, for smooth appointments, and for the transition our family will soon experience. We cannot wait to
introduce our daughter - our beloved - to you, our beloved.
In love and gratitude,
~Pastor Kyle (and Elena, Atticus, and J)
