The Stu Brown Sextet PresentsTwisted Toons: The Music of Raymond ScottFriday 20 April 7.30pm

The Stu Brown Sextet was formed in 2008 bydrummer, Stu Brown, to celebrate 100 yearssince the birth of the band leader, composerand inventor, Raymond Scott, whose wacky,hyper-animated, eyeball-popping ‘cartoonjazz’ is most widely recognisable for its use inthe in the Looney Tunes cartoons from the1940’s onwards and, more recently, in Ren andStimpy, and The Simpsons.

Scott’s manic, offbeat compositions, such as‘Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals’and ‘Square Dance For Eight EgyptianMummies’ are performed with zest andspontaneity by the drummer’s brilliantlyorchestrated sextet. Suitable for familyaudiences, this is a crowd-pleasing showperformed with energy and wit. The group hasperformed at the UK’s biggest Jazz Festivalsincluding Manchester, Cheltenham, Glasgowand London; now see them at Wem Town Hall.
